Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Justinian   decent works prior to his MSW debut but disappointed as the heavy favorite...........blinkers off for today and the works are even better and on the SA surface........Baffert is very dangerous with equipment changes of promising young horses

2  Soldier Boy   tossed a clunker in his MSW as the favorite.......turf (likely nothing more than a tightener as there was no action on the board) race in latest with solid works since hinting the grass race muscled him up as only it can do sometimes for a given horse......blinkers come off and a switch in jocks.......interesting changes

4  Da Kine   returned to the race wars for his 2nd start following a prolonged layoff as a much improved individual.......last might be good enough but he likely will need a small move forward which seems logical racing 2nd out after a layoff

race 2    average clarity

6  Palladium  here is the record for this colt racing at SA on fast rated dirt (4 2 0 1 1).......new trainer today (Keith Desormeaux to Bob Hess)........and it his good to see that Kent Desormeaux wants the mount back for buddy Bob Hess

2  Thin Line   speed was good on opening day and if it holds the same today this sprinter might be loose on the lead.....................and........................go......................all.....................the....................way........can't help myself as I'm headed to the Bears/Vikings with good seats tomorrow

4  Royal Insider   gelding has won a one mile dirt race at Santa Anita........and he gets to run turf to dirt today........that and when Carava has legged up Cedillo over the last 2 months his horses for the most part have been live including 2 wins from 5 starts

race 3    average clarity

7  Liar Liar   seems like a terrific spot for an Irish invader who beat 9 of 13 foes in his maiden debut (5F on the turf) back in April.......shows up in the Richie Baltas barn and with copious works since arriving in the USA......1st time on Lasix......two year old has a pedigree that suggests the longer the better so 8F of turf should be a plus and won't be for many in here

10  One Fast Bro   solid 1st ever on the grass in his 2nd lifetime start.......gelded since the race so the connections believe he can do better.........tough post but owns some serious turf route speed and likely will utilize it here so as not to get caught 3 wide or worse on turn one......dangerous sort

6  Kanderel    as mentioned in our comment for our top choice this seems like a soft spot and so a 1st timer flashing some decent a.m. work seems usable......and this Mandella 1ster sure owns a good pedigree to handle the sod

3  The Stiff

1  Knifes Edge

race 4    below average clarity

3  Le Tub   two year old filly broke the 57 flat barrier on the grass at Dmr in her MSW running 2nd and where the 3rd place finisher came back to win.........O'Neill filly went off at 35 to 1 so she likely wasn't all the cranked up and surprised her connections.......hard not to like as her pedigree for the dirt is good

5  Donna Veloce   $800K purchase in March is training sharply and for one fine trainer with young stock in Simon Callaghan.........and draws one of his top go to guys in Flavien Prat........very dangerous MSW 1st timer to say the least

1  Bristol Bayou   nice forward move in her 2nd lifetime start in a one mile dirt race at Del Mar........and the strength of the race is somewhat disguised........filly should have plenty of endurance today with the cut back in distance (8F to 6 1/2F).........1st time Mike Smith.........dangerous late runner for sure

race 5    below average clarity

4  Goliad   believe Prat jumped off of our 2nd selection to ride this Mandella MSW 1ster.........good a.m. work for the colt.......and mom tossed 4 turf winners from 5 starters and 2 of them were Stakes winner.......Richard is one of the better trainers on the grounds at getting a grass horse (not dirt) to win in their debut

5  Best Chance   hope this colt is appropriately named today in this very difficult grass race to decipher.......he had 6L of trip adjustment in his MSW debut at 5F on the grass and only was beaten by 5 1/2L for the win..........he owns good pedigree for a turf route

2  Show Business   double barrel action from the Mandella barn as he also trains our top pick........colt went off at 38 to 1 in his MSW debut so that says the one mile grass race was badly needed........should be much more fit today.....decent post and a bug boy who is solid on the grass (few are).......dangerous

9  Color War

7  Fly the Sky

race 6    average clarity

3  Homehome   not that enamored with anyone who has raced so this O'Neill two year old filly who is training well should be a factor versus this soft looking group.......that and mom has tossed 5 winners from 5 starters (2 Stakes winners) and all preciously were able to graduate at two

7  Sofi's Gold   weak field thus a predictably weak final time in this girl's debut.......but if this filly builds off of her MSW debut she should fit just fine in this soft looking group

6  Ride Sally Ride   dangerous looking Cal-bred invader from GP following a 3rd place MSW debut effort........would have considered higher if she had worked a little better since her debut.......of course listed works aren't everything

2  Starship Leia

race 7    average clarity

5  United   definitely on the right end of the learning curve.......and........his a.m. preparation has never been better.......his claim to fame to date is a nice 2nd in his lone Graded race run in a 10F Grade 2 like today.......and back to Mike Smith who rode him in the Grade 2 affair two races back.......such a deal

4  Ritzy A. P.   should get a nice stalk or lead position in a race that seemingly favors those who sit close early........might be best racing on the the SA lawn

2  Oscar Dominquez   Baltas has improved this grass runner who fits awfully well if he holds form........mainly place as low as our 3rd pick because the race shape plays against his off pace style

3  Cleopatra's Strike

8  Acclimate

race 8    average clarity

7  Comical Ghost   three year old colt went off at 1 to 2 in his 1 June MSW debut and did not disappoint.........he ran a decent final time fig and got there setting a strong set of splits and did it dueling for the lead.......very strong work regiment even by Baffert standards........hard not to like his chances at going 2 for 2 to start his career

1  Value Play   fast MSW heat win in his lone lifetime race back in December as a two year old on a sloppy track........a.m. preparation hints he is as good as new........can he run as well on a fast track.......we shall see about 4 PM Pacific time

8  Candy Council   in and out of form sort is difficult to tell when he is going to fire a competitive race..........but he is decent racing at SA and might be best at today's 6F distance......so if he is "in form" he might be in the hunt for the winners circle here

9  Heartfullstars

6  Rogallo

race 9    average clarity

1  Mirth   filly is got a bit short on numbers......but......the race is very lacking of speed types.......so you know Mike Smith will slow things down to a crawl and try and attempt to hold off all challengers

2  Beau Recall   best lady in this field but she better sit closer if I am correct in my assessment that Mike Smith will set one ridiculously slow pace up front

5  Excellent Sunset   nice prep race for today's big challenge and it seems noteworthy that she set the best internal fractions of her career.......might even lead if Smith elects to chase  although I doubt it as Raffy is not all the crazy of going to the lead in route turf races

race 10    average clarity

4  McKinzie   Baffert's four year old colt is an ultra consistent sort who has been in the exacta 11 of 12 starts (12 7 4 0) and might be at his very best at today's 9 furlong distance......and Mike Smith has had the mount for all of starts so he knows him inside and out

1  High Power   coming off of lifetime best and seemingly never sharper in the morning since the Grade 1 Pacific Classic win at Dmr......only made 2nd choice because McKinzie is one tough nut to crack when he races at 9F.......all three 9F races very are big figs to say the least

3  Seeking the Soul   some shot if he finds his "A game" this afternoon.......ignoring his bad effort in his last because Brian Hernandez bothers to fly in to ride.......and this six year old has fit the rider quite well in the past

race 11    average clarity

3  Don't Sell   2 for 2 at 5F on the sod and she just ran awfully well at 8F on the sod.....so that suggests the 5 1/2 furlongs of turf offered today should fit her well......we shall see if that is the case at about 5:30 pacific time

2  Apache Princess   2 for 2 down the SA hill grass course winning both races easily.......and at the 5 1/2 furlong point of each race she was in the battle for the win......that bodes well for her chances of appreciating the new turf sprint distance of 5 1/2 furlongs at SA

5  Miss Hot Legs   very consistent grass sprinter acts like and extra 1/2 furlong will fit her just fine......not out of the win picture in this affair by any means.........pun intended

7  Fantasy Heat

9  Holly Hundy

11  Stealthediamonds
