Santa Anita for Saturday 5 October 2019

So so card today. Let's call it a 5 on the 1 to 10 scale of things. Sunday's looks better.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Silenced    Lrc is a fast racing surface but I don't see anyone in this field outside of our 2nd pick capable of running a 109 flat at the little track........and I believe the SA dirt suits him as well as prior to his 20 September race at Lrc he worked a solid 5F drill at SA.........hungry and hot jock stays up

2  Stretford End   all three fast track sprints earned Santucci figs that are quite a bit better than par for the MSW level.........likely would have made him top pick-a-rue if it wasn't for the fact he was a vet scratch on 20 September

3  One Nation   on the right end of the learning curve and if the trend continues he fits fine here........but I am slightly leery that he has only put in two works since his last effort run 5 weeks ago

race 2    average clarity

1  Chasin Munny   decent 5F turf MSW debut over at Del Mar running 3rd in a race where the winner won right back..........vastly improved works since the 7 August race........Glatt is better with 2nd time starters than 1st timers.......a trifecta of reasons to consider this two year old colt

3  K P Indy   ran 2nd in the same 7 August race as our top pick and it was impressive as he closed well despite sitting towards the rear is what was a slow set off fractions being set up front......toss out his 2nd start which was a turf route as he was caught a little wide dueling in a decent pace......did well to only be beaten by 5 3/4L at the wire......Smith seems likely to get it right this time around

2  Convex   McCarthy colt didn't fire in his debut and it might have been because of his blistering 4F gate drill put in one week before his 10 August debut........different approach this time around for his 1st on the lawn.......and the meets top jock (won 3 yesterday) and one nice turf rider gets the mount

8  Fun Coupons

9  Ekklesia

race 3    below average clarity

5  Busy Paynter   not sure where it came from but this filly awaken in her latest........if she can run as well on the SA surface as she just did on the Lrc dirt she she be tough from start to finish despite the significant step up in class

2  Portal Creek  invading rider is here to ride the favorite in today's feature and this is the only other horse he accepted to ride..........filly is 4 for 7 at SA on the dirt and 0 for 6 every else........seems dangerous

3  Time for Suzie  2 for 2 at SA racing at today's 6F distance........1st out after the claim by Cerin who is dynamite year in and year out "1st following a claim".......hard to ignore this filly

4  Tiz a Master

race 4    average clarity

5  Lil Milo   good turf trainer in Marquez........four year old gelding has done little wrong in four lifetime grass races (4 2 2 0) and could be 3 for 3 sprinting on the turf if not for getting blocked a couple of lengths in a 5F turf race ........extra 1/2 furlong today to work with should be a plus

6  Musawaat   very impressive 1st ever race in the U S of A breaking bad and getting blocked a little in the stretch and still able to run a 56:1 at Dmr........a ton if Gryder comes thru and gives Glatt's gelding a better ride

8  Tiger Dad   another who has done little wrong on the grass with an easy win at 6 1/2F and a win and a 2nd in two 5F races.......that impressive 6 1/2 win bodes well for his chances of appreciating the 5 1/2F turf distance

11  Wildman Jack

4  Hartel

race 5    average clarity

6  Selcourt   what a great spot for a fresh laid up sprinter with an abundance of early speed as she sure appears as if she can get loose......and get loose when those fresh legs........needs a confidence builder and has a good chance of getting one this afternoon

4  Anonymity   ultra consistent sort seems likely to sit in a good stalking position giving her 1st crack at our top selection.....trainer has been firing on all Cylinders

2  Lady Ninja   (5 for 9 and with 2 2nd's and a 3rd) at SA on the dirt.........2 for 12 elsewhere..........lifetime best and capable of doing the trick in this spot was her race 3 back which was at SA and at today's 6 1/2 furlong distance........dangerous sort

race 6    average clarity

6  Overdue   believe this solid route turf horse is at his best on the SA grass and that is somewhat hidden by a brutal trip on 8 June where he earned an adjusted for trouble Santucci fig that is 4 lengths better than par for today's level

1  Acker   should sit pretty stalking our 3rd selection......and when he does find the "stalk position" good things often happen for this Miller five year old gelding

4  Foray   keeps improving and all with today's rider Jorge Velez up......if the trend continues today he might be rated too low..........should be on the engine from the get go

3  The Hunted

race 7    below average clarity

4  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  Wilder Than Most   might not have been all that cranked up for his MSW debut as this Carla Gaines youngster went off at 17 to 1.........if that is the case he likely is today........and his debut is better than it appears as he was inside with a short lead on a somewhat dull inside at Dmr on 30 August.......Bejarano wisely stays put

7  Summer Fire   two year old earned par like figs in both of his lifetime MSW races when you take in account trip.......3 drills since his 30 August race where he ran behind our top and 3rd choices hint has has held form

10  Lightning Fast   yet another who exited the 30 August race with a par like adjusted Santucci fig.......not crazy about the blinkers going on as high percentage Bill Spawr is only 1 for his last 15 with the move......still.......very dangerous

9  Cleveland Cat

5  If Id Told You

1  Chipper

race 8    average clarity

6  Catapult   best racing on firm turf and today's one mile distance seems to suite him well......likes ample time between starts and gets it........excellent preparatory work regiment.......can really run very strong efforts/figs......obviously I believe he might today

2  Synchrony   last 6 firm turf races have led to 4 wins and a 2nd and a 3rd and they were all Graded races........good post and rider........Stidham does well with shippers........hard not to like

5  Big Score   seems best on the SA turf and he sure seems well-meant off of the long layoff as he hasn't missed a beat going back to early summer in his a.m. work........that and Yakteen is very often at his best off of long layoffs

7  River Boyne

9  Prince Earl

race 9    average clarity

3  Shancelot   quite the new sprinter from the east coast invades with three efforts in a row that peg him as the one to overcome in this spot if he handles the SA surface......trainer is dynamite with shippers and brings in his regular rider for this colt in Jaramillo.......and last but not least he should be able to get loose on the lead

2  Omaha Beach   laid up R Mandella colt was a top Ky Derby contender until he got injured.........trainer has been firing with most of his stock and he has this fellow all cranked up and ready to roll.......likely will get a nice stalking trip with money Mike Smith in the irons

4  Flagstaff   believe his best surface is the SA main track......and also believe his best distance is at today's 6F.........gets both today but still he likely will need his career best to find himself in the winners circle in this prestigious Grade 1 sprint

race 10    average clarity

4  Toinette   filly 5 for 5 when racing at the Grade 3 level or lower..........very ambitious work regiment put into her in preparation for today's small Stakes race........big shot to make it 6 for 6 today racing at the Grade 3 level or lower

2  La Sardane   double barrel action from the Drysdale barn as he also conditions our top selection.........seemingly badly in need of a break in the action and gets it today........tightly spaced works hint the Hall of Fame trainer has her muscled up and ready to make a rebound.....the fact Mike Smith accepts the mount supports the notion

3  Tooreen Dancer   lightly raced five year old mare has won her last 3 turf routes dating back to 13 August........needs plenty of time between starts and gets it........you have to like "her kind" as you know that the connections will have her ready because it will likely be months before she can race again
