Santa Anita for Thursday 10 October 2019

Today starts five straight days of racing as Monday is Columbus Day.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

7  My S V R  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE   tepid top selection seemingly has a decent chance to grab the lead in her 1st at a route........pedigree to handle the two turns is decent.......trainer/jock have only teamed up twice in the last couple of months with a win and a 3rd

5  Probable   sprint-sprint-route scenario for this Matt Chew filly and with 1st time blinkers hinting the connections want their youngster to be forwardly placed early.......good pedigree for a route........rider upgrade and with a 5 lbs weight break to boot

3  Alicia's Pride   disappointed in her 2nd lifetime start which was her 1st on the dirt and 1st in a sprint.......earned a number in her turf route debut that is better than par for today's level and somewhat disguised in its strength..........working awfully well on the dirt for today's route on the main track.......very dangerous potential

8  Reds Sacred Appeal

9  Ancona

race 2    average clarity

3  Don'tteasethetiger   12% trainer is more than twice that 1st out following a claim which is the case here........that and it is good to see Maldonado ride thru the claim as he gets this gelding forwardly placed early which he seems to respond to........nice speed 3F bullet work put in since the 2 Sept. purchase........three year old has been improving and might again today

1  I Belong to Becky   gelding likes to hang but might not today racing at the lowest level of his career.......2 of this fellow's last 3 races sure fit solidly at today's lower level........dynamite trainer/rider combo over the last 2 months as in 42% win

2  Verynsky   just claimed by Bob Hess who is looking for his 1st win at the new meeting following a solid Dmr for the veteran trainer........three year old needs his race 4 back (also run at 5 1/2 furlongs) and if Hess finds a way to get it out of him he has a shot at the circle of joy

9  Thin Line

7  Prayer Warrior

race 3    average clarity

1  Billy K   solid bug boy is at his very best in dirt routes and especially so when he can sit close up early........not that much gas in this field so this mid pack runner like last time looks like she will sit about 2 or 3 lengths off the lead down the back stretch and saving ground......like her chances if that occurs

2  Text Don't Call   drop seems alarming to some degree but if this filly is doing OK health wise and handles her 1st on the dirt in a route she will have as good an opportunity to take down this race as anyone..........tough call - flip a coin type

5  Circleofcolor   filly likely boosted her endurance in her latest racing in a one mile turf route.......sprint race on the dirt 3 back fits fine and today we have a significantly better jock up.......pedigree to get a dirt route is decent enough.........should be a price

4  Sharp Turn

7  Vannavanna Bo Bana

race 4    average clarity

2  Lighthouse   Simon Callaghan knows how to get a two year old 1st time starter ready to preform at a high level and the 46:4 Hg 2/91 work he got out of this filly indicates he has her meant and ready

6  Connection   good grass pedigree for this Sadler MSW 1st time starter........a.m. work is up to snuff.......was an early scratch on 5 Oct (also a 5F MSW turf race) for this spot ..........it is uncanny how well horses do in S Cal when they elect to re-enter for a race a couple of race cards later

3  Kadesh   inexpensive purchase is not training like one......that and he is bred decently to handle the sod and the two turns......should go off at a decent price likely higher than his ML

10 AE  Much More Halo    SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

4  Party Town

8  Vodka Twist

race 5    below average clarity

2  Vastly Deep   went off at 21 to 1 in only a 6 horse field at Lrc in his MC debut and won fairly easily and with 2nd coming back to win his next race.......might have surprised his barn some as they might not have had him all that cranked up.......if that is the case expect much more from him this afternoon......race shape sure appears to favor off pace runners like himself

8  Drippin Sauce   as mentioned above the race shape sure appears to favor off pace runners which he surely is.........2 of 4 lifetime races for this two year old are solid here.......races as a 1st time gelding today so there is some potential for even better today

4  Riding With Dino   seems like the most dangerous of the many speed horses lined up for this 6F affair.......that and he gets a rider upgrade.......like his chances more if Cedillo attempts to take him back (if that's possible) a little in the early stages

5  Mainframe Judy

9  Howbeit

race 6    average clarity

3  Flor de La Mar   3 of 5 lifetime races on fast rated dirt fit solidly in this spot and that includes her last race........Smith remains up and it is his lone mount on the card.......that strongly suggests this Baffert filly exited her last in good condition and should produce similar or better today

1  Starr of Quality   6 for 13 at SA while 0 for 10 racing elsewhere......and she is one consistent five year old mare racing at one mile (15 6 4 4).......not out of the win picture by any means......pun intended

5  Mo See Cal   equipment change (to blinkers off) and just what you want to see as in improved a.m. work which has mostly been endurance building drills......good history racing at one mile on fast rated dirt...........as in two wins and a second with three starts .......and.........when Miller legs up Cedillo his horses have been very "live" for the most part

race 7    average clarity

8  Doc Yco Cheeks   solid MSW debut way back in October nearly winning despite not the best of trips......very strong preparatory works.........tough post with the rails out thirty feet but it might not matter if this filly gets caught a little wide if she runs as big as she did in lone lifetime start

1  Y Not Sizzle   smooth looking runner changes riders today even though Gryder has done little wrong riding this Mullins filly.......lifetime best for this youngster was run off of 7 weeks rest and it also was a one mile grass race at SA and had a rider change.........7 weeks since her last with a jock change........hmmm

3  Too Hot for Curlin   pounded at the windows in both lifetime starts but really didn't run all that impressively........but Mr Pratt stays put........3rd times the charm?........we shall see

6  Slew South

2  Our Romance
