Santa Anita for Monday 14 October 2019

Decent card handicapping wise to finish the Holiday weekend. Be back in action next Friday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Morning Cynn   seems like a good time to risk a drop in claiming coming off a dismal effort......barn is in win mode........only race on the SA dirt fits very well.......unreal 8 for their last 16 rider/trainer combo......two reassuring works showing since her latest run which was on 21 Sept.

4  Bellazano   decent rebound in her latest off of a 52 days break.......and she has run well off of short rest the only 2 times she had the opportunity to do so......short rest today and I like the rider change........dangerous sort

6  Gotta Be Lucky   ran well off of a 2 1/2 month layoff 3 races back where she dropped in MC for the 1st time.......that might bode well for today's drop to the lowest available MC level off of a 5 1/2 month layoff........we shall see about 12:30 pm pacific time

race 2    average clarity

6  Pivo   not the best of trips in his debut on 22 Sept. at Lrc.......Roman stays aboard and right now that is most likely a plus as he has been getting on live horses at the SA meeting and for the most part getting the job done

2  Dream Palace   cut back in distance appears to be a plus as does the fact he has shown the best speed of anyone in the field.......so if the 1 horse (a first time starter) doesn't have early speed he should be loose of the lead for the 1st time in his career.......thus........quite dangerous

3  Campagne's On Ice   lone lifetime race fits fine in this spot provided he breaks better.........mostly placed as low as 3rd pick because the rider is only 1 for his last 50 in sprint races.......ouch

race 3    average clarity

1  More Honor   all 3 lifetime grass sprints on firm turf were solid efforts leading to two wins and a second.........seems destined to get a nice mid pack position in a race that should yield a lively pace........good grass jock in Cedillo gets the call from Glatt who is very good at getting laid up runners like this gelding to run "big" off of long layoffs

2  Restless Rambler   speed of the speed but at what cost with his main speed challenger ridden by Maldonado who exits the metal monster as well as anyone........but than again hot apprentice rider Velez is not too shabby out of a gate jock either

5  Awesome Heights   appears as if he is capable of rating some and if that is what the connections see fit to try and have the jock attempt I like his chances some

race 4    average clarity

1  Road Rager   very good spot for a speed horse like this filly happens to be........lifetime best and a strong number here was run turf to dirt and that is also today's scenario......regular rider Gryder wisely stays put

3  Gold Arrow   could have won either of her two lifetime races with better trips.......away since Feb. and returns with a new trainer in Drysdale.........Neil has had quite the rebound year and can keep the good times rolling with this four year old who has trained well enough to fire a strong race fresh off the bench just as she did in her debut

4  Saving Sophia   no action on the board whatsoever in this girl's lone start which was a MSW 5F grass race at SA in May.......the effort was likely a turf tightener........work regiment this time around hints this is not a tune-up.......dangerous sort

race 5    average clarity

5  Three Ay Em   ultra impressive 1st in a turf route as this three year old colt pressed and then closely stalked a strong pace and was still able to run 2nd beaten one length for the win......O'Neill gave him a little more time off following the race and during that time put into him some solid works hinting he is enthusiastic about this fellows chances of being a good turf route runner

1  Cono   gelded since his last race which was on the 1st day of June and just what you want to see as in a vastly improved series of drills.........that and I like when Smith rides for McCarthy which is the case here

7  Jamming Eddy   another who has been giving a small break and in the interim worked better than he has in the past.......believe he is sitting on a top effort.....and with a jock upgrade .......and a cut back in distance.......both of which should help his endurance when push comes to shove in the late stretch

2  Perfect Wager

4  Asaro

race 6    below average clarity

3  Baby Gronk   (4 1 3 0) at SA on the main track.......(4 0 0 2) racing anywhere else........seems likely to sit inside for a good portion of the race on or near the lead........and so far at the SA meeting that position has led to good things in the sprint races

6  Truck Salesman   the 3 and the 4 both have early speed but he appears to have the most........last three racing endeavors all fit fine......never easy for a trainer to get a 3rd straight solid effort out of a given horse but the way the trainer has been going a 4th seems doable

5  Platinum Nights   one lifetime race really stands out and it was the only time he raced at 6F on a fast track at SA.....and in general six furlongs appears to fit this colt the best

4  High Five

race 7    above average clarity

1  Storming Lady    there are horses for courses and sometimes there are riders for horses......that appears to be the case here as Espinoza is (4 3 1 0) on this filly and that is not too shabby considering this gal's overall record is (14 3 4 3)......and......the trainer is very reliable with his turf runners

5  Travieza   might have the best early speed in the field but what I really like is the endurance that Doug O'Neill has put into this filly since her 14 August race......she has been flattening out but I doubt she does today

2  Stylishly   short on numbers but she makes up for it by being an awfully fluid/smooth runner......and it shows in her record when she competes in firm turf sprints (4 2 1 1).......and those two wins were the only two times today's rider Drayden Van Dyke has been up

race 8    average clarity

3  Big Barrel   bad races everywhere but at SA........so that might be why Powell and company are willing to risk their filly for $12.5K so as to enhance their chances to grab the top prize as it might not be until 2020 that they can once again race at SA.......decent preparatory drills.....distance should fit fine

5  R B Eye   best at SA and 1 for 1 at 7F and 0 for 12 at other distances.......Roman remains up and with the way he has gotten his act together of late that should be a plus

7  Imagineiamfastest   big awakening in his latest to break his maiden with a 5L win in start number 13.......often these kind win right back when placed realistically which this MC20K is a the 12.5K non-winners of two level

6  Topgallant

4  Buck Duane
