Breeders Cup at Santa Anita for Saturday 2 November 2019

Breeders Cup Day Two

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Don't Sell   broke about 1 1/2 lengths slow and then rushed up to duel (not smart) which likely cost this filly a win.......filly is (5 4 1 0) competing at 5 or 5 1/2 furlongs and four of the races were on the turf.......solid 4F work since her last race which was 3 weeks ago........Mario Gutierrez will be out to make amends

9  Escapade  talk about another reliable sprinter (7 4 2 1).......and 6 of the races were on the sod......that and this four year old filly is capable of running well on or off of the pace.......would have been top selection if she had drawn a better post

8  Girls Know Best   Eddie Kenneally five year old appears to be the speed of the speed so the outside post doesn't concern me too much......Jose Ortiz is up and when Kenneally legs up the stout grass jock his runners are usually very "live"

4  Just Grazed Me

7  Gypsy Blue

race 2    average clarity

3  Roadster   Baffert three year old colt is (3 2 1 0) at SA including a win in the SA Derby.......he also is 2 for 2 racing fresh and he is 4 1/2 months "fresh" today........blinkers on today and just what you what to see as in a powerful work tab......that and Baffert is 11 for his last 30 "1st time blinkers"

4  Flagstaff   not too shabby of a 3rd place finish racing 2 1/2L behind two monsters in Omaha Beach & Shancelot........good history sprinting off of 4 or 5 weeks.........28 days since his solid Grade 1 sprint.......V Espinoza knows this Sadler five year old quite well as this is his 5th straight mount on him

5  Comical Ghost   2 for 2 lifetime and in his 2nd lifetime endeavor he had to overcome a bad trip......he was caught dueling 3 wide in a decent pace and still was able to come home a winner.........gets to race off of relatively short rest today for the 1st time so he has the potential of moving forward which he likely needs to do versus our top two picks in order to beat them

race 3    below average clarity

8  Neptune's Storm  three year old gelding is making a living of off stalking the lead and it appears he has a decent chance of getting that position today......that and this youngster sure has been consistently firing competitive races since Baltas took over the training duties 5 races in 3 wins - a 2nd - and a 3rd.........and the three year old is 4 for 6 at SA

6  Jais's Solitude   vastly improved since the blinkers were added 5 races back......and after getting disqualified out of the money in his latest the connections are not messing around and make a significant rider upgrade especially so for the turf......that and the three year old has sure shown numerous times that he can ship and run well.....should be a big price

1  Originaire   blinkers off really woke-up this Mullins runner who now likes to race from far back and take his chances flying late.......that and he appears to love the firm turf that SA has to offer........Mike Smith knows him well as this is the 4th straight mount on the three year old colt

3  Nodle

4  Temple

5  Succeedandsurpass

race 4    BC Filly & Mare Sprint

1  Covfefe  in 7 lifetime sprints the only two loses came when this filly got bumped at the start.........2 for 2 from the one post is reassuring.......three year old filly owns two incredibly fast final times of 107:3 at Pim and 1:20:2 for 7F at CD.......they were run off 6 1/2 & 8 1/2 weeks rest.......6 weeks rest for today

5  Lady Ninja   Baltas filly likes a deep SA and that is what the main track has been.......plenty of speed signed up in this Grade 1 should aid/flatter her mid pack style.......filly has yet to race at 7F but when examining her finishes in 6 1/2 furlong sprints one would surmise it should be a plus

4  Come Dancing   what a year for this mare (5 4 1 0) and $800K earned.......likely to get a nice stalking trip with some pace to run at.......awfully dangerous 3rd selection

7  Selcourt

6  Bellafina

race 5    BC Turf Sprint

4  Shekky Shebaz   not that much speed signed-up for an abbreviated turf sprint and this four year old gelding has some.......that and he is vastly improved since Jason Servis took over the training responsibilities two races back.......those races were at 5 1/2F & 6F respectively........and when looking at his running lines it appears that 5F will even be a better fit......fabulous rider/trainer combo at the helm.........37% win & 84% win with there last 19 as a team

1  Totally Boss   very formidable on firm turf as in 3 wins and a "nose" 2nd in 4 starts.....should sit mid pack as he normally does and if Jose Ortiz can find a lane he should be flying late

2  Pure Sensation   unless the 13 AE draws into the field he seemingly has only one challenger who has his level of early speed in our top selection.......inside speed has dominated the abbreviated turf sprints at the SA Fall meeting.........and boy does it appear that Paco Lopez gets the most out of this Christophe Clement runner

7  Leinster

10  Eddie Haskel

race 6    BC Dirt Mile

5  Omaha Beach   in classic Richard Mandella style this colt is on the improve with each and every race (well almost every race)........he won the Ark Derby sprint to route.......same scenario for today' big race.......continues to train like a happy healthy individual........look for money Mike Smith to get his biggest challenge from ironically Mr. Money

4  Mr. Money   smooth running colt has earned over a million dollars in 2019........he a nice stalking style which might put him the drivers seat here if the 5 and the the 7 press each other too hard early........jock owns all 5 lifetime wins for this three year old colt

2  Improbable   very bad gate horse far too often........ but...... when he behaves he can runs with anyone........and.......he is very capable on or off of the pace

9  Diamond Oops

3  Spun to Run

race 7    BC Filly & Mare Turf

7  Vasilika   five year old is the epitome of "horses for courses" with 11 wins and a 2nd with 12 starts on the SA turf course.......and Pratt knows this gal inside and out as her regular rider........also she won her only turf race at today's 10F distance and the race was a Grade 1 at SA......local horse might get ignored at the windows

2  Sistercharlie   hard to put this fabulous mare as our 2nd selection especially considering that Chad Brown is the USA's top turf trainer........but she is (6 3 2 0) at the distance and (8 7 1 0) at other distances.......that and so many of her wins have been by head-bobs

1  Iridessa   strong 10 furlong Grade 1 turf win in June in Ireland racing off of a one mile grass race (prep?)........rather impressive that a 3 year old filly beat older by 2+ lengths in June racing as far as 10F........ships in from GB off a 3rd place one mile grass race (prep?)........very good history for this three year old filly when today's jock Wayne Lordan rides

8  Castle Lady

5  Mirth

race 8    BC Sprint

9  Imperial Hint   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  comes in off of two straight Grade 1 wins both of which were run in eye popping times of 107:4 & 108:1......and his latest drill was 46 flat put in at Mth........and it was labeled a "breeze"........yikes........he can stalk when the 4 & the 6 appear as if they can't or at least something to prove when it comes to stalking.........J Castellano is highly likely to take his chances if he does

6  Shancealot   monumental rider upgrade especially for a speed horse.......rather sure the lead will go to this Jorge Navarro colt who set a ridiculously fast 1/2 (considering how deep the track is) at SA in Grade 1 which was also at six panels........very dangerous with one of the most dangerous speed riders in the U S of A aboard for the 1st time

1  Catalina Cruiser   3 for 3 when breaking from the 1 post.......2 for 2 at today's 7F distance........2 for 2 at SA......capable of winning on or off of the lead.........a superfecta of reasons to consider this five year old who is 7 of 8 lifetime

3  Firenze Fire

4  Mitole

race 9    BC Mile Turf

6  Got Stormy   four year old filly from the Casse barn is seemingly the sharpest of her career and her preparatory works leading up to today's race supports the notion..........that and she sure loves very firm turf which of course SA has to offer.......race lacks speed and she has some......believe she will save ground on the 1st turn sitting about 3rd or 4th down the back-stretch

9  Circus Maximus   three year old colt is by far at his best racing at today's one mile turf distance where he owns two Grade 1 wins and also a Grade 1 2nd across the pond...........that and the Euro owns some early speed in a race that lacks it.......and it is good to see Ryan Moore up as he was aboard for those impressive Grade 1 performances

10  Without Parole   very dangerous price shot is training for Chad Brown as if his poor form is over and he is back where was at the start of his career where he wheeled off four straight wins including a Grade 1.......and he has some speed in a race that lacks it so maybe he won't get caught too wide on the 1st turn with his 10 post start

8  El Tormenta

11  Uni

3  Space Traveller

race 10    BC Distaff

4  Midnight Bisou   undefeated in 2019 with 7 wins and even though she has not been at SA in awhile she is (4 3 1 0) at The Great Race Place..........Mike Smith has 6 of the 7 2019 wins.........trainer Steve Asumussen is very reliable with his top runners

2  Ollie's Candy   ignore the race that this filly ran in her latest as most of her big efforts come off of 4 or 5 weeks rest which is the case today.....she owns 3 wins and 3 2nds when competing off of that time interval........last two preparatory works are very stout......rather sure this Salder filly is ready for her very best today........Rosario and his agent likely think so as well

1  Paradise Woods   (12 5 3 2) at SA on the main track and (5 0 0 1) everywhere else.......and she especially likes SA when the track is deeper/slower as witnessed by her 10L win at today's 9F last April......that and she has 2 lifetime numbers (and at SA) that our top choice would have a difficult time with if she was able to run one of them this afternoon

5  Dunbar Road

6  Wow Cat

race 11    BC Turf

10  Old Persian  Charles Appleby is a very capable trainer who has won a couple of BC turf races and his runners in general are usually very live.......this colt's thing is marathons and he sure responded to 1st time Lasix with a big Grade 1 win at Woodbine where he not only ran a solid fig but also looked great visually doing it

11  Arklow   appreciates very firm turf and he has been very stout when competing off of 4 or 5 weeks between races.........4 weeks exactly since his impressive Grade 1 win at Belmont where he beat quite a few of the runners signed up in this prestigious race

9  Bricks and Mortar   a perfect 8 for 8 in 2018/19 for Chad Brown and company.........not easy to place such a superstar as low as our 3rd choice but he is facing some of the top marathon horses in the world and this is his 1st to date racing past 10F.....but then again if Chad Brown thinks he will handle the distance you surely need to respect his astute opinion

5  Anthony Van Dyck

2  Acclimate

race 12    BC Classic

10  Vino Rosso   Todd Pletcher's four year old colt's only race at SA might be his lifetime best and it was at 10 furlongs like that 27 May Grade 1 he pressed a nasty set of fractions especially for a fairly deep track and was able to stick around in the stretch to draw off a little late to win

4  War of Will   blinkers go on today and his recent works hint the equipment change has woken him up some assuming that he worked with them on.........rail has been good at SA and this colt can run his Preakness win I hope Gaffalione once again lays off pace 3 or 4 lengths and sticks to it like glue.....shot for a big upset here

6  Elate  must be doing awfully well to finish her career here before she heads to the farm to breed.........that and she is a perfect 3 for 3 at 10 usual she likely will sit mid pack and come charging home

5  Yoshida

8  McKinzie

9  Mongolian Groom
