Santa Anita for Saturday 4 January 2020

Race card seems decent and so does Sunday's card.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

7  Lucky Long Legs   tepid top choice woke up with the blinkers on in her last (could have won with a good start) but for the 3rd time in a row she broke tardy........so........it is nice to see Maldonado stick around as when it comes to getting out of the metal monster quickly few are better

3  Elgofranco   Ben Cecil filly beat our top choice by 1 1/2 lengths in her last and might appreciate 7 weeks off as Cecil runners are quite dangerous with ample time between starts.......hard not to like

5  Lets Get Wild   OK debut and Eric Kruljac is better with 2nd time starters than 1st.........good to see a nice 5F drill since her 13 Dec debut.......highly likely to move forward today if she takes to the SA surface........to what degree seems to be the question mark

1  Bluegrass Sky

2  On Mars

race 2    average clarity

4  Phast Pharoah   significant rider upgrade especially for a grass race........nice wake up with the blinkers on in his latest on a track  rated good at Lrc........works since the race are solid.......world class rider is on the controlling speed.......hard to not like that

1  Absolute Unit   not so hot in his 2nd lifetime endeavor but it was on an off track........debut is good and disguised by dueling on a slightly dull rail at Dmr on 9 Nov........1st on the grass but mom has tossed a couple of decent grass winners.........Prat remains up........and is he due to have a big day (1 for 15 to start the meet)

3  Keno'd   easily the most dangerous of the 1st time starters signed up for this race.......pedigree for the grass is decent and his last preparatory drill for today's race is a solid 5F gate work just one week ago......might be peaking at the right time

7  Liam's Pride

5  Malibu Morning

race 3    average clarity

4  My Journey   five year old gelding is training awfully well for a MC20K putting in 8 works since his last race which was run in late Oct.........and with quite a few of the works are rather stout.........gelding should be on or near the lead from the get go

3  Mike Operator   like our top selection this gelding should be in the mix from the get go as well.......and like our top pick in race number two he gets quite the jock upgrade to Mr. Rosario......hard not to like

2  Royal Ranger   decent debut effort at the MC40K level but I am somewhat suspicious of the drop to MC20K especially since he shows only one work showing since his debut which was 5 weeks ago........but take note that if his physical condition is still OK he fits fine

5  Silver Fury

1  Strong Ruler

race 4    average clarity

5  Abusive Gary   2 of his 4 lifetime races fit fine for today's Cal-bred MSW level and one of them was his lone grass race to date and at today's one mile distance.......and the strength of that race is disguised........much improved recent a.m. work........switch in jocks to Maldonado.......so look for this fellow to go after the lead

4  Kakistocrazy   good turf sprint MSW debut  and improved a.m. work since.........Gaines is fairly decent 1st time at a route.......Van Dyke wisely stays put

7  Bud Knight   3 of 5 races run at today's one mile turf distance fit OK in this spot.......that includes his latest race where he might have found the winners circle if not for being blocked badly on the turn and the stretch

1  Big City Bane

3  Sea of Liberty

race 5    average clarity

6  Taishan   very impressive final time to break his maiden in his latest especially considering he got caught a bit wide pressing a stout set of fractions for the given day........the adjusted for trip/pace Santucci fig worked out to be a number that would fit in a Grade 1 little lone a Grade 3

1  Authenic   Baffert colt ran a very strong race to graduate at 1st asking.......and has trained very nicely since the 9 Nov race........and the connections didn't shell out $350,000 to own a nice sprinter........very dangerous considering how great Baffert is with 3 year old colts

4  Azul Coast   double barrel action from Baffert as he also trains our 2nd selection........nice MSW debut win at Lrc in a one mile affair.......likely needs more today and Van Dyke lands on the other Baffert runner......but he ends up with a rider upgrade to Rosario........such a deal

race 6    below average clarity

5  Slew South    on the improve with each and every start all of which were on the sod.....and her latest forward move is disguised by a brutal trip given by Talamo (albeit from a nasty post) where he broke poorly and ran ridiculously wide.......8L of trip adjustment and only lost by 4L......back to Velez and his 5 lbs weight break who rode this filly nicely 2 back.....should be a handsome number

6  Sothalis   two so so sprint dirt races to begin career........but she is working since her 2 September race like a vastly improved individual........maybe the D'A has figured her out.......1st on the grass and a route but she is bred OK for both.......looking for Maldonado to go after the lead or close to it

7  Y Not Sizzle   filly has been in a slump and needs to rebound to her spring and summer form.......recent works and a change in jocks to Rispoli hint she might mount one.....the new to the scene Italian rider has hit the board in the three mounts that he has gotten from Mullins

9  Magistrate

2  Oh Pretty Woman

race 7    average clarity

1  Proverb   last three races all fit well in this nw alw spot......and his latest was the best of all despite not winning the 20 Oct version of this race and that is somewhat hidden.......latest endeavor was run of off 4 months rest.........2 1/2 months rest today.......Baltas is rather hot......Abel Cedillo wisely remains up

4  Meistermind   nicely improved since the Mark Glatt claimed 3 races back.......still if our top choice runs the effort that I think he will this five year old will need better today......maybe the rider upgrade can provide it as the new Italian jock sure looks like a good addition to the jock colony so far

2  Street Class   decent improvement in latest in a race that is better than it appears in print as he had a short lead on a somewhat dull rail........he did decently to hang on for 3rd......and today he gets a jock upgrade to leading rider Rosario

race 8    average clarity

3  Cleopatra's Strike   handles the 9F turf distance well and sure appreciates the SA turf course........nice Grade 2 win 2 races back which was run 2nd out following a layoff......same scenario today........hard not to put on top

1  Desert Stone   last two firm rated turf races were good efforts for this Baltas runner........away since May but this now five year old has run well fresh in the past........should be motoring late

5  North County Guy   five year old gelding got away with a loose lead setting very slow fractions to win an 11F affair on the grass.......that race was likely stress-free and has improved her endurance.....if that is true then lookout here as she likely feels good and she might get loose and lonely on the lead again

race 9    below average clarity

3  Hot Sean   the only two times that Baffert put this gelding up for a tag he ran very well......up for a tag today and it is the lowest tag of his career likely in order to face easier.......definitely the one to beat if he is fit and ready off of the 5 month break

8  Order and Law   lifetime best best and hidden by 5 or 6 lengths of trip adjustment was his lone lifetime race on the SA dirt and the race was only 1/2 furlong further than today's 6 1/2F.........should be flying late and at a nice price

6  Sigalert   Sadler is good with very long layoffs.......and this colt has some decent ability and he won his MSW debut suggesting that today's race run off of a 15 month break is doable

1  Soldier Boy

4  Truck Salesman

race 10    average clarity

2  Queen of the Track   hidden move forward in her latest dueling in a brutal set of fractions and only getting beat by 3L for the win......8 works since the 27 Oct race which turned out to be a key one.......and look who accepts the mount.....the meets leading and by my book best jock on the grounds in Joel Rosario

5  Anonymously   filly should get a nice stalk or mid pack trip and likely will save ground........switch to Cedillo whose only mount for Cerin over the last two months was a winner.......very dangerous 2nd selection

3  An Eddie Surprise   better pedigree to handle a turf sprint than a turf route and she is a decent route turf horse........she will be running hard late especially if a few in here try challenge our top pick early

1  Hello Bubbles

4  Swing Thoughts
