Santa Anita for Sunday 5 January 2020

OK card for today.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

6  Lincoln City   last race is OK but his race two back is very solid and disguised greatly in it's strength........sprint-sprint-scenario for this grass runner trying a route for the 1st time.......not too bad of a move histrionically speaking for Kruljac....... sure like the rider change.......ML would be nice to get

3  Commanding Chief   all three lifetime grass races fit fine vs today's competition......,.been away 8 weeks but his a.m. work hints he is ready to roll.......and Rosario accepting the mount for the 1st time supports that notion

5  Border Town   not easy to improve a Chad Brown turf runner but if Richard Mandella can manage to get this guy's MSW debut effort/energy out of his new acquisition this colt has a shot at the winners circle........prolonged work tab in preparation for his 1st race in over 3 months suggests he might

2  Da Kine

4  Go Daddy Go

race 2    average clarity

6  Grandpa Louie   decent races in all three fast track sprint races one of which was run at SA.......like the move to blinkers off to slow this gelding down so as to finish better.........especially since he is trying to get 6 1/2 furlongs today........red hot rider/trainer combo at the helm

3  A Man's Man   showed life in his MSW after a slow start......but more importantly Koriner is prolific with 2nd time starters to the tune of 31 percent win with his last 39 (and 62% in the money)

1  Afternoon Heat   might not have cared for the off going in his latest.....race two back which was his 1st out following the Knapp claim is easily his lifetime best and better than par for today's MSW level........mostly placed 3rd because of a difficult post at 6 1/2F to deal with.......and.......running lines suggest he might flatten out at the 6 1/2F distance........on a positive note he gets a jock upgrade........not easy to split our 3 selections

race 3    average clarity

2  Foster Boi   four year old won his MSW debut quite easily in a 6 1/2F turf race down the SA hill.......away since June but returns as as a 1st time gelding for lifetime start number 5 and with some strong a.m. work showing........many of his drills hint his early speed is now better.......that bodes well for his chances of making it 2 for 2 lifetime in grass sprints

1  General Interest   (3 2 1 0) vs Cal-bred competition.........(4 0 0 0) vs open company.......connections are risking him for 20K this afternoon to get to face Cal-breds once again........that suggests he is well meant today because the barn might lose him by way of the claiming box.......and look who grabs the mount - leading jock Rosario

5  Hit the Seam   five year old has rebounded off of dull efforts multiple times in the past......dull race in latest......likely will see better today

7  Desmond

race 4    average clarity

3  Storie Blue   good route MSW debut 2nd in a route race at Dmr...... followed that up with a very solid running time at Lrc in another  two turn race......if she runs as well in her 1st race at SA she will be tough to overcome.......unreal rider/trainer combo in Van Dyke and Baffert.......as in 50% win with their last 30........yikes

5  Classy Ruler   exits a fast heat where this youngster ran 2nd in his MSW debut........trainer is dynamite 1st time at a route.......and the connections didn't shell out $700K to have themselves a nice sprinter

4  Cosmic Cowgirl   disappointed as the favorite in his last where he lost to our top choice......but he does get a significant jock upgrade.......Baltas is 30% win with his last 140 beaten favorites......not impossible but easy to make as our 3rd pick-a-rue

race 5    average clarity

1  Will Dancer   lifetime best was the only time this four year old competed on a fast rated track when wearing blinkers.......and the race was at today's one mile distance albeit in a one turn mile at Aqu.........Truman gelding seems likely to sit in a nice stalk position behind a couple of speed types.......dropping to the lowest MC level of his career

7  Hypersonic   Metz runner seemed to be in need of some rest and gets it.......lifetime best (run 3 back at CD and with today's rider Baze up) is awfully solid here and was run one furlong further than today's race.......so it might not be that difficult a task to have this guy ready enough to get the one mile distance off of the layoff.....should be in the mix from the get go

8  Fort Dodge   plotter has a chance to be the last one standing at the wire as there is a decent chance of some lively fractions being set in this affair

2  Cross Town

6  Moana Luna

race 6    average clarity

7  Holly Hundy   (3 2 0 1) in abbreviated turf sprints at SA........very aggressive 4 works series in preparation for today's race......Rosario can get a very nice mid pack or stalk position likely saving ground as the runners lined up inside of this filly are either much faster or slower than she is......such a deal

4  Storming Lady   might have won the 14 Oct version of this race at SA if not for getting blocked and bumped in the stretch........like the rider change and also what appears to be improved a.m. work.......Marquez filly should be motoring late

1  Kim K   filly has never been on the grass but Peter Miller is awfully good at getting the most out of his "1st time on the sod" runners in turf sprints........good post and rider..........filly is (4 2 1 0) in one turn dirt races........dangerous sort

3  Tonahutu

2  Creative Instinct

race 7    above average clarity

7  Bast   lifetime best by my book was her lone race at today's 7 furlong distance......you don't see too many Grade 1 races won by 9 lengths at the distance of 7F.......one note of caution - not too crazy about Baffert entering two others in here as far too often the "other" Baffert horse wins

2  Golden Principal   nice debut win for this Ballert baby and with Van Dyke riding our top choice Mike Smith takes the mount.......solid endurance building 6F gate work put into this three year old should have her ready to improve and handle the addition furlong to cover

1  Auberge   worked lights out prior to her 27 Oct MSW debut where she crushed her MSW foes.......working "lights out" once again for Baffert and company.......would have made 2nd choice if it wasn't for her difficult post to deal with at the SA 7F distance

race 8    average clarity

4  Hootie   lifetime best and a race that would clobber today's competition was run 3 back and disguised by a slightly tardy start and a one hot pace which he pressed.....drop sure makes sense as this gelding has hardly earned his keep in 2018 & 19

9  Factorial   1st time running as a gelding and drops hinting the operation didn't do much for this six year old.......that and the fact he is now six and this is only his 13th start suggests the barn is dropping to win as opposed hoping to lose him......and my guess is even if he wins the won't be disappointed to see he go

2  Mystery Messenger   gelding seems likely to get a good trip from his good post draw and with a jock upgrade to boot.......last race sure looks like nothing more then a spin around the Lrc track to set up today's drop down putting some doubt into the minds of claiming vultures lurking above

5  Go for a Ride

7  Canadian Game
