Santa Anita for Saturday 11 January 2020

Might be feast or famine this afternoon as we have only one ML favorite as our top choice and she is 5 to 2 in the morning line.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  You'reright Again   trainer had a "break out year" in 2019 and could be sitting on his 1st win of 2020 with this three year old gelding.........since the blinkers were put on this youngster he is (4 1 2 1) when getting the lead.........3 solid preparatory speed works put in........rider upgrade......owns the best Santucci pace figs in the field

1  Mainframe Judy   2nd best early speed in the race is dangerous if he can overcome the difficult one post at 6 1/2 furlong at SA.........three year old is a good gate horse so maybe he can.......Miller/Fuentes are 2 for their last 5 over the last 2 months

2  Baltimore Beecho   lifetime best for this colt who is still a maiden was the only time he ran from off of the pace......but.......that might not be the plan as speed jock Maldoanado is named for the 1st time......we shall see

race 2    average clarity

7  Win Often   both lifetime races look awfully good vs. today's competition and one of them was at SA and it was also his debut.......that and this Pederson filly has run well on and off of the pace.......that versatility should enhance the chances of jockey A. Espinoza (who rode her well in both lifetime races) of getting the job done

5  French Rose   trainer is dangerous turf to dirt and draws Prat to make for a significant rider upgrade......that and this filly sure seems to be training the best of her life.....and.......for a trainer in Desormeaux who doesn't push them too hard in the a.m.

3  Vegan   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE filly should appreciate getting back to the SA dirt where she has done most of her best running........and her lifetime top effort/fig was the only time she raced at today's 6F distance at SA

4  Mandy

1  Way too Sweet

race 3    average clarity

1  Storm the Hill   talk about horses for courses.......this D'Amato six year old is (8 5 0 3) on the SA turf and (19 0 2 4) on all other grass.......that and she owns the best credentials in the race.......but she's no lock as 5 1/2F might be a little too short for her......although she sure has shown much more early speed in her turf routes of late

3  Jolie Olimpica   Brazil racing isn't much these days but this filly has crunched her competition in all three of her lifetime races including a Grade 1 vs. males in her last......been away since June but is working well enough and shows up in a Hall of Fame barn......hard too know how well she fits......we shall find out about 1:30 pacific time

4  An Eddie Surprise   way short number wise but if the 1 doesn't handle the abbreviated turf distance and the 3 doesn't adapt to her new environment too well this gal seems next in line to win

race 4    average clarity

1  Mahi Mahi   1st time gelding for this Wong three year old and the surgery might have helped a little as this guy's recent a.m. work is somewhat improved.....inside speed has done very well in the one mile dirt races and this three year old has some.....and with a 5 lbs weight break with the bug boy remaining aboard

3  Champagne's On Ice   double barrel action from the Jonathan Wong barn as he also trains our top selection.......last three races all fit fine here and one of them was run on the SA dirt........also there is significant rider upgrade........good post to boot

7  Itsthattime   nice move forward in his latest where he could have graduated if not getting blocked a couple of lengths in the stretch......trained well prior to his latest and continues to train well since........dangerous sort from the Bonde barn off to a good start

9  Mr. Unusual

5  Constitutionaffair

race 5    average clarity

1  Mosienko   Hess got this three year old filly eligible for this race by putting her up for the 50K tag..........she likely is doing well since the race or he would likely have put her up for the 40K tag today hoping to lose her.........filly should be in the mix from the get go and with a distance turf race under her belt she should finish better this time around

5  Teachers Big Dream   owns the best route speed in the field and might get loose and lonely and brave on the front end......that and I believe her not to be a lead type only so she would still be a factor if she doesn't get it

8  Sugar Pickel   three year filly won her MC50K debut at 16 to 1 hinting she surprised her connections somewhat........if that is so she likely wasn't fully cranked up for her debut.......1st at a route and the turf but I sure like her pedigree for both........it looks like Cedillo jumped ship for our top pick.......but with that move this girl gets Prat on her back.....not too shabby of a deal

2  Secret Square

3  Too Much Heaven

race 6    below average clarity

1  Silken Prince   very impressive layoff run considering the soft work tab (went off at 64 to 1 odds)......works since the effort are stout.......still should be a price somewhere around the 8 to 1 ML

8  High Five   last race seems funky......toss out race two back as this colt appeared to dislike the two turns and/or the off track.........impressive tightly spaced works since his "funky" race.......can stalk our 5th pick and maybe even grab the lead

4  Policy   not the best of trips in his last two races.....fast near bullet 4F work just put in 6 days ago........most of the attention will go to Glatt's other horse our 5th choice......like our top two picks this gelding should also be a nice price

3  Mutineer

7  Gate Speed

race 7    below average clarity

6  Don't Unzipp Me   bad trip on the AW at GG or would have graduated at st asking........1st on the lawn but mom was one terrific grass sprinter and she has already tossed two turf winners.......this filly might make it three for three in that department today

4  Nu Pi Lambda   toss this girl's last as she acted up badly prior to the race.........both grass sprint races prior to 3rd lifetime start are solid front running races........hard not to like despite that there hasn't been any front running winners in turf sprints so far at the new SA meeting

1  Sweet Devil   good a.m. work for this McCarthy MSW 1st time starter.....and her daddy is off to a strong start as far as producing good grass runners so far to the tune of 19% wins

11  She's So Special

5  Munn She's Pretty

race 8    average clarity

6  Horologist   it took a Grade 1 race at Prx to break this gal's dirt route racing winning streak and she race 3rd in the Grade 1 beating 8 of 10 foes.......good to see Joe Bravo ship in as he is a perfect 3 for 3 in routes on this four year old......and.......it supports the notion that that this filly is ready to roll off of a 3 month layoff

7  Spiced Perfection  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  very consistent five year old Cal-bred mare and that includes on the SA main track where she has won 1 of her 2 Grade 1 wins.......stout jock and rider at the helm........difficult to split the top two

3  Queen Bee To You   don't count this Andrew Lerner mare out as she seemingly his never been sharper.......and her a.m. prowess since her latest a 3 1/2L Grade 3 win at Lrc (1st Graded race win for the up and coming young trainer) hints that she might run similar or even better today

1  Der Lu

4  Message

race 9    average clarity

4  Nocherylikemychery   trainer is often at his best 3rd out after layoffs which is the case here for his three year old filly.......lifetime best and hidden by 8L of trip adjustment was this youngster's lone turf race which was at today's distance........believe the bug boy will send her early enhancing her chances to be no worse than 2 wide on the 1st turn.......like her chances if that is what transpires

6  Too Much Smoke   excellent turf pedigree for this 2nd start maiden and her pedigree to handle the two turns is decent for a Cal-bred.........3 gate works since her disappointing dirt debut.......believe she has a shot at being night and day better today

11  Miss Ryleigh   double barrel action from Miller as he also trains our 2nd selection.......Miller and company privately purchased this filly following a strong race at GG on the AW where this Boat Trip filly had boat load of trouble.......turf pedigree is a ? mark and the post is no picnic or would have rated higher
