Santa Anita for Saturday 25 January 2020

So So card for a Saturday but Sunday's looks good.

Best of luck as always!

race 12  G1  Pegasus World Cup Invitational at GP 1 1/8 dirt

6  Higher Power   two of his last 3 racing endeavors sure fit fine here and they were both Grade 1 races versus tougher........and his latest which was a 3rd place finish in the BC Classic is disguised somewhat by not the best of trips

2  Tax   Danny Gargan's gelding is at his best at 9 furlongs and he should get a nice ground saving trip at least through turn one sitting mid pack with plenty of heat up front to close into........he is a very game finisher and if he takes to his 1st on the GP surface I expect him to show that "game" finish here

10  Mucho Gusto   Baffert sure has had this four year old colt ready when he places him in Grade 1 affairs with two 2nd' and a 3rd and he didn't have the best of trips in two of those big hint the world renown conditioner has him at a peak once again........finally gets a jock upgrade......Irad Ortiz has option's as Baffert's colt is capable of winning on or off of the pace

4  Seeking the Soul   recent works at FG hint at a significant rebound......and if that is the case he has a good spot as a late runner in a race with plenty of early speed

3  Diamond Oops   5 for 6 at GP on the main track......plenty to prove handling the 9F distance but he sure is training extremely well and likely muscled up with plenty of fast turf furlongs put in

race 1 Santa Anita    below average clarity

(AE's 11, 12, 13 all appear dangerous if any of them draw into the field)

5  Ci Voleva   tepid top selection has been in training dating back to early Fall with a steady work tab which is a positive......the negative side is that she has not shown any flashy drills........but her pedigree screams "turf"

4  What a Family   similar to our top pick as this filly also has a prolonged work regiment but without any individual work that catches one's eye......but her pedigree is also very strong for the turf especially for a sprint turf race

3  Jemsek   showed little in her MSW debut which was on the dirt at Lrc despite going off at 7-2 odds.......decent turf pedigree though so maybe she struts her stuff today

2  Slew's Screen Star

8  Lofty

race 2    average clarity

2  Sweet Sassafrassy   Puype is better than average getting a cheap maiden claimer to win at 1st asking.......and the work tab for this four year old is rather decent

1  Remember to Smile   four year old filly from the Bonde barn finally gets to run on the dirt surface where she trains......and if she runs to her a.m. work at SA she has the potential to run a big race today

5  Winning Bells   interesting Z pattern (fell back and then came back to make up some ground) for this Jorge Periban filly.......four year old just worked a decent 3F bullet gate work hinting she might show some speed......and switches riders to one who knows how to ride the front end in Maldonado.......hmmmm

race 3    average clarity

4  Fire When Ready   great time to drop is off of a voided claim......and Hess gives his gelding 2 1/2 months to recover from whatever was troubling him........Bejarano gets the call and he owns 2 wins in 3 mounts on the five year old

1  Conquest Cobra   like the step up of one level following a multi-level drop in his latest.......might be rebounding........decent improved 11 January drill supports the notion......should be motoring late

6  It's All Bob   sharp but cheap gelding should get an easy lead here which makes him dangerous even with running lines that suggest that 6 1/2 furlongs will be a challenge

race 4    average clarity

1  Stackin Silver   talk about waking up 1st time going long.......colt overcame a fast early pace to crush the field in a MC50K in his 2nd lifetime start..........away for 2 1/2 months but Baltas has his three year old wound up like a top and ready to unwind

4  Gorky Park   lone career win for this Desormeaux three year old was in his only racing endeavor at SA and that race was at today's 8F distance.......still he likely will need his lifetime best today to hit pay dirt......1st time gelding today and just what you want to see as in an improved drill.......upside potential for sure

5  Include the Tax   solid efforts in his last 3 races and improved a.m. work since.......1st at a route today but one of his trainers stronger stats is "1st time at a route".......dangerous sort

race 5    average clarity

1  Shandling   quite the spot for this four year old with sprint turf speed attempting a turf route for the 1st time as this race sure lacks early speed........that and his works preparing for today's races are impressive.........and he gets 5 lbs off using an apprentice rider for the 1st time.......such a deal

2  Sash   last sure appeared to be a gimme as he was placed way over his head for her 1st race in the USA........fits today's level.......good post and he seems to have enough early speed to get a doable mid pack position

9  Proud Pedro   3 of his 5 turf races since the blinkers were put on fit solidly here and are better than par.....would have been top pick if it wasn't for the fact that he is a deep closer in a field that seems set for those up close early

4  Madman

7  Mountain Spirit

race 6    average clarity

1  Kleen Karma   impressive MC debut (as our 2nd pick) breaking poorly and running a bit wide while making quite the turn move .........must feel good for Lewis to wheel his filly back in 15 days for her 2nd start and 1st at a route........good pedigree to handle the two turns........good post........and retains Velez who is well worth his apprentice weight break in route races

2  K P Whirlwind   solid graduating win in his first dirt route race over at Lrc.........four reassuring works since the 14 December race........should fit just fine if she handles the SA dirt as well as she did the Lrc dirt

5  French Rose   decent sprint dirt effort off of the eight week layoff.......not sure if this filly can run as well in a dirt route (turf routes not too hot) but if she can she should be poised for a solid effort 2nd on following a break and racing sprint to route

race 7    below average clarity

9  Media Blitz   lookout if this colt rebounds to his debut effort in his 3rd lifetime start.........he only lost by a nose despite breaking bad and racing way too wide.........away 3 months for today's race and that might be a very good thing considering how well he ran in the ultimate "fresh" race as in his debut

2  Ekklesia   gimme in his debut in a sprint grass race........then disliked the dirt in his 2nd start which was in a race originally carded for the turf.........turf today and nice preparatory drills......should go off a decent price

4  Time to Testify   better than it looks MC75K debut in a one mile grass race 2 weeks ago........likely feeling good for Desormeaux to bring his youngster back quick and move him up to the MSW ranks......that and we get one significant rider upgrade

6  War Path

1  Cosmo

race 8    average clarity

3  Flagstaff   very solid Santucci figs when competing at SA.......away almost 3 months but he is training great and he sure appears pointed for this Grade 2 race by Salder and company.........likes to stalk the lead which regular rider Victor Espinoza should be able to do here.......hard not to like

6  Speed Pass   Baffert four year old gelding is a perfect 2 for 2 easily breaking the 1:09 barrier in both races that were at Lrc.......needs to handle the SA dirt as well and if he does this off pace runner can come flying late

2  Captain Scotty   very dangerous gelding from the Miller barn that is more than capable of going eye to eye on the front end and still battling to the wire.......very few speed types are

race 9    average clarity

4  Eddy Forever   both lifetime grass races are very solid for this Baffert colt and were compromised by poor two starts were on the dirt (and 2nd one is a solid number) and he broke just fine........and........his pedigree to get another furlong today is awfully good

10  K P All Systems Go   all three lifetime turf races fit well here and does he own a pedigree that says the longer he goes the better......hard not to like this Jeff Mullins three year old colt

5  Goalie   on the improve with each and every race with few reasons not to believe the the trend can't continue today.......mostly placed as 3rd selection because his pedigree to get the 9F isn't as strong as our top two pick-a-rues

1  Frasard

2  Port Joe Saint
