Santa Anita for Saturday 1 February 2020

Santa Anita at it's best today as there is not a claiming race on the card

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

2  Kalliniki   away since August but this filly has shown she can run well fresh off of the bench in the trainer takes over in D'Amato........and he not only has his new shooter training well but he seems to be attempting to turn her into a sprinter with some quickness applied.......the D'A has been good with the move in the past

6  Tijori   promising start to this gal's career in 2018.....not much cookin since Callaghan shakes things up to wake her up by putting her on the sod for the 1st time......decent pedigree for it and draws Prat who could have ridden some others in here with ability........if this filly does take to the turf she should be prominent from the get go

7  Lavender   filly has done nothing but "run" in all three lifetime starts and it sure was impressive that Chew got this Irish invader to win in her 1st start in the U S of A and did so off of a 16 month hiatus from the game........don't see why she can't build off of graduation day and have a shot in today's nw alw affair

3  Rather Nosy

10  Thriving

race 2    above average clarity

5  My Happy Girl   so so works by Baffert standards for this MSW 1ster over at LA.......but........since arriving to train at SA the drills are vastly better.......and 90% of the time when Baffert finishes off his a.m. preparation for a 1st time starter with 3 straight gate works he means business

1  Eyes Open   solid debut for this Blacker three year old filly despite being beaten 11L at the wire.......because.......115:3 run by the winner was one dynamite final time for day at SA for a baby MSW race........also she ran a smooth effort hinting she has a decent chance of handling the one hole at 7F

2  Clivetty   Don Chatlos three year old filly 1st time starter is training as though she might come from off of the pace with plenty of furlongs put into her but zero speed drills.......extremely well bred and it showed at sale going for $900K last June

race 3    above average clarity

3  Auberge   both lifetime races for this Baffert three year old filly are very solid (and then some) for today's level.......and she could have won a Grade 2 in her last if not for a bad trip.........basically a Stakes horse in an alw race

5  Speech   like our top selection this Mike McCarthy filly popped one big dirt rate to graduate at Lrc in her 2nd lifetime start......and the strength of her big fig earned is supported by the gaps behind her (9L-4L-6L)........if she handles the SA surface as well as she did the Lrc surface she has a shot to upset the favorite our top pick

2  Savvy Gal   decent par like alw horse catches two monsters........plenty has to go right to win this race.......her recent 5F work is encouraging as it arguably is her best drill to date

race 4    average clarity

2  Kiss Today Goodbye   quite the awakening in his 3rd lifetime start and 1st on the dirt in the 1 Jan version of this one mile MSW race at SA......fig earned is quite a bit better than par.........that and I like the switch to Rispoli because when Kruljac goes to him his horses have been extremely "live"

6  Divine Armor   exits the same fast race as our top selection and was placed as our 2nd pick only because inside posts have dominated the dirt routes at SA since day one of the new meeting

3  Keno'd  in all likelihood this O'Neill colt has been pointed to this one mile MSW route race all along.........nice muscle him up 5 1/2 grass race and two solid works since......all systems go for this youngster who owns a good pedigree to take to dirt racing

4  Koko's Kandy

5  Rushie

race 5    average clarity

9  Moonhall Milly   nearly upset the apple cart in a big way (50 to 1) in her debut only losing by 1/2 length in a tough 18 horse field  vs. males last Sept. in Ireland........been absent since and shows up in the Powell barn with a work regiment says "meant and ready"........and the fact Prat takes the mount only supports the notion

4  Don't Unzipp Me   bad trip on the AW at GG or would have graduated at 1st asking........another bad trip (very bad start and ran wide losing 6.5L and only was beaten 5L for the win) in her next out which was in the 11 January version of this race on the was one terrific grass sprinter and she has already tossed two turf winners.......this filly might make it three for three for "mom" if Maldonado gets her to break well as she might find herself on or close to the front

3  Bristol Bayou   big disguised hidden move forward in her latest running an adjusted for trip Santucci fig that is better than par for the level of racing.......1st on the grass but bred to handle it........Smith stays put

2  Majestic Gigi

6  Rocking Redhead

race 6    average clarity

2  Thousand Words   both lifetime races run by this colt are solid for the G3 level and so is the pace that he had to deal with from start to finish in winning a Grade 2 race at Lrc........Prat and Baffert at the helm and with a good post to brainer to make as the top selection

5   High Velocity   double barrel action from the Baffert barn.........colt will try and turn the tables on the 2 horse but he was beaten by him by more than 5L.....but he might not have liked the good rated track .......if that is the case his chances of beating him are obviously enhanced

3  Tizamagician   three year old colt wouldn't be the 1st horse trained by Mandella that is slow to develop but when they get things right can surprise in a big way.........that and if the two Baffert runners both duel again they might set things up for this improving youngster who should sit in a nice stalk position

race 7    average clarity

4  United   very bad trip in this fellows latest racing way too wide or he wins for fun........prior to that he came a whisper away from winning the B C Turf........recent drills are fantastic.......should be one tough cookie this afternoon

2  Cleopatra's Strike   Cedillo has been a good fit on this 7 year old.........good draw in the 2 post with the hill start.........10F seems like the perfect fit.........and the grass at SA appears to be his favorite turf........a superfecta of stuff to consider using this gelding

7  Oscar Dominquez   10 furlongs hasn't been his best distance but he gets Rosario up for the 1st time today and that is usually one dangerous proposition for the opposition.......still.......he was rather easy to place as the third most likely winner in the race

1  Chosen Vessel

race 8    average clarity

1  Roadster   best by far competing on the SA surface including an impressive win in the 2019 Santa Anita Derby.........continues to work like a happy healthy jock riding for the U S of A top dirt trainer.......hard not to like

5  Midcourt   five year old gelding has done little wrong in 6 lifetime route races (6 4 1 1) on the dirt and his 3rd place finished in his latest was compromised by one bad trip given by Espinoza..........veteran jock who was 3 for 3 on the five year old prior to his latest will be out to make amends

4  King Abner   Cal-bred has seemingly never been better and gets a rider upgrade.......not impossible to win this affair but he likely will need a near perfect trip to avoid flatten out late at a distance that seems like it is a little to far for him to run his best

9  Bold Endeavor

10  Combatant

race 9    average clarity

2  Prima Valentina   all 3 grass races on firm turf are good efforts and her latest is better than it appears in print.........the race was on New Years Day where she broke slightly tardy and then ran wide.......see ya Blanc and back to Gutierrez who gave this filly a decent ride two back from the same post as today.......lone career win came the only time this filly got to run off of relatively short rest (40 days).........last race 31 days ago

1  Courteous   seems capable on or just off of the pace and this filly seems likely to be in one of those two positions down the back stretch........combine that with the cut back in distance and you might have one tough cookie from start to finish

13  AE  Desert Oasis   SCRATCHED OUT   earned one big adjusted for trip Santucci fig to graduate in her latest........that number looks good here even with a so so trip......jock upgrade.......very dangerous if she draws into the field

5  Bodhicitta

9  Peter's Kitten

10  She's Our Charm
