Santa Anita for Friday 19 June 2020

Quite the weekend of racing starting with a decent card at SA today. 12 races at SA Saturday. 12 races at Belmont as well. Life is good.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Eastern Ocean  not too bad of a turf sprint 2 back which was his 2nd lifetime start and 1st with Glatt as the conditioner........and after the race he put in vastly improved a.m. work with the blinkers off (assuming of course they were off for his works).......he then ran a strong 2nd as our 14 to 1 top pick in a one mile turf race........2 solid reassuring works since......endurance should be improved off of the route effort.....trainer has been on fire since the reopening

6  Lane Way   3 of his 4 lifetime races (all on the SA dirt) fit solidly here and he is training up to it likely comes down to how well he will handle his 1st endeavor on the sod.........pedigree for it is decent.......Prat stays up......blinkers off likely to slow him down some in the early stages of this one mile grass race........hard not to like

4  Frasad   flattened out some in his last two races both of which were run at 9F on the the cut back to one mile should help his chances of digging in and battling to the wire......we shall see about 3 PM pacific time this afternoon

5  Tapitution

2  Tallien

race 2    below average clarity

4  Violent Speed   only two dirt races that this filly ran on fast rated conventional dirt with the blinkers on fit solidly of the two races was run at SA at the distance of 6 1/2 furlongs and was a 10L win where she was increasing her lead at the wire........that bodes well for her chances of liking the 7F distance

6  Sindy's Revenge   three year old filly won her debut at Tup by 4L and the filly who ran 2nd came back to win her next start..........then in her second start in a nw alw race she ran 4th beaten only 2 3/4L for the win despite a wide journey........away since mid Feb. but training up to snuff for her new trainer Blake Heap who is rather decent off of layoffs and with new acquisitions

5  Pasito   both times this four year old filly ran with a drop in class she ran well with a 2nd and a win.......drops today........seems best near the front end of things and she has a shot to be on or near the lead today.........and with a 7 lbs bug boy up who has a better win % than any rider but the rider of our top pick

race 3    average clarity

6  War Path   monumental rider upgrade for a turf race.......trainer was red hot last week........and the preparatory works for this Baffert/Pratt colt suggest that the three year old is sitting on a top effort like his race two back run on New Years Day

9  Tiberius Mercurius   very nice "pick-up" by Sadler and company of a four year old colt who owns 5 efforts on the grass out east that fit solidly in this MSW affair.......and he draws a nice turf jock in Rispoli.......away since Nov. but works scream "ready"

3  Fravel   last seen on 9 Feb. where he ran 4th in a key race where the 3 runners that finished in front of him came bad to win..........and........he races as a 1st time gelding today which gives him the potential of being a better runner in his return to the race wars

5  Much More Halo

8  No Slo Mo

race 4    average clarity

7  Touchdown Brown   12 works showing for this two year old MSW 1st time starter should have him extremely prepared for his debut.......and the last drill was a 4F bullet gate work hinting he is peaking when it counts the most.........trainer has won with 2 of his 6 MSW debut runners and with 2 other hitting the board

4  Lemon Zinger   another working as if he is totally meant and ready for his MSW debut and considering that Luis Mendez has dominated these early two year old races (he has in past years as well) it seems extremely likely that this two year old colt will be in the mix for the right to visit the circle of joy

5  Big Fish   another working as if he is ready to compete at a high level in his MSW debut.......and.......his trainer is coming off a nice week where he won with 2 of 3 starters

3  Poso Creek

race 5    average clarity

2  Fengari   last racing effort fits well at today's lower racing level......race two back fits extremely well and if this Salder five year old is up to that race it would take a miserable trip to keep him out of the winners circle.......Fuentes gets the mount back and why not as over the last the 6 weeks he has a win and a 2nd from 3 starts for Sadler.....and that includes a heck of a nice 4th pick winner for us at 46 to 1 on Sunday

5  Most Satisfatory   last race on the dirt and his turf race at KD on the turf 2 back (albeit way back in September) are better than par for today's MC40K level......1st at a route but he owns a pedigree that should handle one......Peter Miller runners have been in the exacta 20 of 44 since the SA reopening and 13 of the 20 were wins

3  Sly   gelding seems to be in need of a drop and R Mandella wisely drops him out of MSW racing for start number 6.........2 of this gelding's 3 lifetime turf races fit solidly here........that and Mike Smith is hot not just in the big races but in almost any level he rides a given horse in

8  Bedrock

6  Camps Bay

race 6    average clarity

2  Brace for Impact   3 second place finishes for this Bruce Headley four year old when sprinting at Santa Anita on the dirt.......gelding should be in the mix early in a race that likely will reward those that do

6  With Due Cause   Prat and his agent knew what they were doing jumping on this Mike Harrington colt as he ran 2nd lifetime start at odds of 9 to 1.........and the strength of the effort is better than in appears in print.......good works since the race......Prat stays put

3  Cali Caliente   nicely bred Cal-bred had zero support at the windows in his MSW debut hinting his race was nothing more than an educational run........and the trainer Eric Kruljac hardly ever fires with first time starters but if rather strong with 2nd time starters......dangerous and at a price

5  Tallemark

race 7    average clarity

7  Harper's Gallop   filly might be 2 for 3 on the turf if the saddle didn't slip in her 1st lifetime grass race which was run last October........filly is capable on or off of the pace giving solid grass rider Rispoli options.......he likely will be off of the pace here cutting back from a one mile grass race to a 5 1/2F turf sprint

6  Noor Khan   Prat might have taken this filly over our top pick who he rode to victory in her last.......that suggests he is confident that this filly will handle her 1st on the green carpet.......still she might need to be a "turf move up" to beat our top choice if she runs the effort that I think she will

10 AE  Loud Loud Music   caught wide in her latest which was a MSW 5F turf race as she failed clear by the turn from the 9 post......draws wide again and the same thing might occur today.......likely a big factor in the outcome of this race if Pereira can avoid a wide trip

3  Smiling Annie

8  Ruby Bradley

race 8    average clarity

3  Malakai Moxie   trainer wins more than his fair share with the MSW to MC move......drop seems overdue as this colt has had 8 races in the MSW ranks and only managed two 3rds.........his only two lifetime dirt races were bad but they were also his only two races with the blinkers off.......that and he is training very well on the SA dirt for a Cal-bred MC 50K........1st time Prat

4  Grazed My Biscuit   Miller is 24% win with his last 242 runners competing in a MC.....and he has the same win percentage with his last 37 MC 1ster's......damgerous sort

2  Mr. Clutch   trainer sure could use a win but he has only a couple of horses in his barn so with that in mind this colt's latest might have been nothing more than a dirty up his form (and muscle him in a turf route) gimme to drop into MC for the 1st time.......and take note that Prat wanted the mount twice in March hinted he has some talent in the a.m.

race 9    average clarity

3  On Mars   bad trip in this girl's latest race which her 1st to date in a turf route.......her effort which was the 22 May version of this Cal-bred MSW race earned her an adjusted Santucci fig that was 3.5L better than par for today's level.......Mike Smith will be hopefully be out to make amends for his poor ride

5  Too Hot for Curlin   double barel action from the D'Amato barn as he also trains our top selection.........filly exits the same race as our top pick and she earned the same adjusted Santucci fig with even a tougher trip than our top selection had.........that and like our top choice she races 2nd out after a layoff

4  Rockie Causeway   very aggressive work regiment at Slr for this Baltas four year old filly and look who wants the turf mount - Prat.......trainer is very good with his turf stock and even tough he is usually not very dangerous with 1sters he is more dangerous with a turf 1ster than a dirt 1ster

2  Cheerful Charm
