Santa Anita for Saturday 20 June 2020

I could get my "clock cleaned" today as I sure like the race cards at both Santa Anita & Belmont Park. Hope not.

Best of luck as always!!

Belmont Stakes  race 10

8  Tiz the Law   tons of talent as he is 4 for 4 on fast tracks and all his wins were by 3L or more.......his work regiment leading into his last race is not as good as it was prior to his impressive win (one big fig) in The Holy Bull......he did regress but still won the FlaDerby by 4L where he beat our top choice.......his stout work regiment is back.......might be up to his stellar effort two back....easy to put on top

6  Fore Left   beat 15 foes in Dubai back in Feb.......he has been away since but is training great which includes two strong works at Belmont where he won for fun last year in a 150K Stakes.......and today he gets quite a better rider on his back than he had in that June 7th win at Belmont.......should be a handsome price

3  Max Player   2 for 2 with the blinkers on and he won at today's 9F way back on 1 Feb in very good time considering how grueling 9F distance can be as a young three year old on Feb 1........away since the race but he is training awfully well.......another who should get ignored at the windows

1  Tap It to Win

9  Dr Post

Santa Anita race 1    average clarity

2  Utalknboutpractice   poor start in this three year old gelding's MSW debut and he was blocked about a length......did awfully well to grab 4th........might have surprised the barn some as he went off 21 to 1.........nice drill since the May 30th debut.......big rider upgrade to Prat.....hard not to like

7  Count Alexei   exits the same MSW race as our top pick but wasn't as impressive even though he nearly won the race.......but........there is a decent chance he improves today as Koriner is much better with 2nd time starters than 1st time starters

3  Me Macho   nice win the other day for the rider and trainer as a combo......four year old moved forward in his 2nd lifetime start which was in Feb.......1st on the sod today for his 3rd start and with this nice a.m. work showing......OK grass pedigree.......might fly early with the 7 lbs bug boy up

6  Hammering Lemon

8  Hollywood's Best

race 2    above average clarity

5  Keeper Ofthe Stars   big Grade 2 win two back at today's one mile turf distance at 36 to 1.........followed that up with a Grade 1 win at 9F on the grass earning a her lifetime best adjusted Santucci fig.....Grade 3 today should be a piece of cake

6  Toinette   ultra consistent sort especially at Santa Anita where she is a perfect 4 for 4.......five year old mare is seeking her 4th Graded race win today........top two choices are awfully nice runners for a Garde 3 turf race

3  Gypsy Spirit   decent 1st in the USA but will she need to show more today to compete for the top prize vs. the two monsters mentioned above........stranger things have happened

2  Cordiality  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

race 3    average clarity

2  Vander Kelen   (5 3 0 2) when running on the dirt with blinkers..........away since August but training exceptionally well for a trainer in Mark Glatt who can do no wrong these days.......and you have to appreciate the step up from 20K to 32K as he could have competed at 20K and still not be eligible to be claimed

4  Adens Dream   might be a good claim by Adam Kitchingman of a seven year old who ran a layoff race that fits well at today's one level hike.........3 reassuring drills since the 15 May claim........hard not to like

1  Oh Marvelous   double barrel action from Glatt as he also trains our top choice.........gelding is 5 for 12 at today's 6F distance and 2 for 12 at other dirt distances.........nice win in her latest beating our 2nd pick........Prat/Glatt combo are 3 for their last 6 and with only one missing the board......not out of the win picture by any means

race 4    below average clarity

8  Moonhall Milly   tepid top selection has broke tardy out of the metal monster in both starts in the U S of A (and found other trouble as well) or could have been in the winners circle.......needs to break better to have a big shot at winning this race.......still not impossible of winning with another bad start but obviously less likely

7  This Tea   only 2 for his last 46 as far as 1st time starters is concerned for Papaprodromou but this filly is working too well to ignore.......and she owns an adequate turf pedigree

3  Fabiolla   Carava is quietly having a strong SA meeting since the reopening and he is able to coax Prat to ride his four year old filly for the 1st time........2nd out following a long layoff should have this filly sharp.......hard not seeing this four year in the mix for the winners circle here

5  Sweet Sonny

9  Vegas Palm

race 5    average clarity

5  Sorriso   both lifetime races for this Glatt five year old gelding fit fine here.......2 sharp preparatory works.......stout rider/trainer combo (an amazing 15 of their last 17 in the money and with 6 wins).........gelding should be in the vanguard from the opening bell

1  Alvaaro   toss out his latest which was way back in Oct as he caught a buzz-saw of a field.......returns off his long break from the game with Prat on his back for the 1st time......good history fresh for this fellow.......O'Neill means business

4  All American Hero   colt finally gets to race on conventional dirt which his pedigree suggests that it might be a better surface for him than the turf or the AW.......last looks like nothing more than a gimme in a protected race to drop an go go go today

3  Baby Gronk

6  Undeniable

race 6    average clarity

6  Whooping Jay   Cal-bred seems extremely well prepared for today's open company allowance race with 2 of the best back to back works that he has ever put in......that and 4 of his 6 lifetime races fit solidly here which includes his only 5 1/2F turf race

1  Psycho Dar   believe this laid up Miyadi five year old is the speed of the speed and fresh speed is dangerous........that and he seems at his best on the SA turf and this is his last opportunity to compete on it until fall.....so.....the barn likely has him fit and ready

5  City Rage   likely needs a little more than his latest in today's 2nd out after the layoff........and considering the fantastic training by Glatt since the reopening you would surmise he will provide it

7  Strickly Biz

2  Ubridled Ethos

race 7    average clarity

3  Bold Endeavor   looking for this guy's effort two back which would make him tough here.............ignoring his latest as he disliked the AW at GG........big bullet 5F drill at SA since.......rider sure could use as win......come on Dyke-a-rue

6  Multiplier   fits today's level very well and his trainer is battling for the trainers title........mostly made 2nd choice because he is an off pace runner in a race that seems to favor those on or near the front end

7  Ax Man   Smith will attempt to clear all by the turn and wire the field.......rated as low as 3rd pick mostly because he cashed it in rather easily in his latest as the fractions in the 7F Stakes race were soft.......on the positive side he worked a bullet since

2  Law and Order

race 8    above average clarity

5  Brickyard Ride   set one of the fastest paces for a six furlong race at SA in many a moon........did it take it's toll?.......doubt it as he has put in two good drills since the 24 May race........solid shot to go gate to wire again

4  Offshore Affair   Gaines four year old has been away from the game since New Years Day 2019 but he is training as well as any laid up runner from her barn that I can remember.......and considering he returns as a 1st time gelding he sure has the potential of being a vastly improved individual

8  Jetovator   (5 1 3 1) in his last five 5 1/2 turf or dirt races.......Prat stays put for a 4th straight race and why not as this gelding has fired par efforts in his last two races.......and unless you are a touring golf pro par is a good thing

9  Preaching Trainer

10  Ready for a Fight

race 9    above average clarity

1  Collusion Illusion   3 for 3 lifetime in sprint races and his lifetime best and a solid fit here was run in his 2nd lifetime start.......so.....2nd out after a long layoff has potential of producing another big effort......Prat (2 for 2 on him) wisely stays put

3  Phantom Boss   blinkers on sure woke up this Jorge Periban colt in a grass race run 2 weeks ago.......back to the dirt for his 3rd out after a layoff........might be the speed of the speed

2  Ragtime Blues   one of three lifetime races fit in this spot and that race was run at OP.......but I doubt his latest at SA would do the trick......needs his effort in Arkansas

race 10    above average clarity

5  California Kook   easy likely stress-free win in his latest with 1st time Prat up.......race two back is what we need as the effort for a Jan. three year old was strong and disguised by a very bad trip.......filly vs. the boys so she will carry 7 lbs less than the race 2 back......such a deal

7  Indian Peak   bad trip in his latest hides a solid move forward........and he draws the attention of Mike Smith........that and he showed that he can run 9F running 3rd on the AW in a $100K Stakes race at GG......should be flying late

2  Margot's Boy   three year old gelding might be feeling awfully good coming into this race as he got away with such an easy pace on the lead that I doubt it took much out of him.......if that is so he is a wire to wire threat here despite figs that are "a little short"

1  Sacred Rider

race 11    average clarity

3  World Affairs  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  alarming drop but my guess is she has enough left in her to win a race at the MC20K level

4  Vodka Twist   best ever was put in in her latest which is the only time she ran with Lasix and blinkers on.......cut back in distance and speed jock stays put.........Maldonado will attempt to open up a lead and never look back

7  Ultimate Mystery   on the improve with each and every start and his latest race was at today's one mile distance.......Fuentes stays put and that is a good thing as the jock is at his best in dirt routes.....trainer Belvoir is quietly having a decent 2020

2  Hapi Hapi

race 12    below average clarity

7  Shadow Sphinx   last 4 races when this gelding has been up for a tag (4 3 1 0).......and two of those wins were with Prat up........away since Jan of 2019 but training great.......Baltas means business

6  Boogalute   1st on the sod but he owns a decent pedigree for it.......last race fits but if he is up to his effort 3 back he should have been made top choice

10  Hootie   six year old gelding fits solidly fig/effort wise but he will need a creative ride from a tricky post.....right guy for the job in in the saddle in Umberto Rispoli

3  Mystery Messenger

8  Spanish Hombre
