Del Mar for Sunday 26 July 2020

Decent looking 11 race card today and a 10 race make-up card on Monday.

The next special publication will be full card selections for Travers Stake Day on August 8th. There usually are 13 or 14 races carded. Purchase will be available soon.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Bombard   very consistent turf seven year old who has been away for 13 months but is training super and he is 1st time on Lasix today which is kind of amazing.........Prat has been up for over 1/2 of his 12 lifetime starts......very good fresh and has some upside potential that 1st time Lasix often brings

3  Baja Sur   very consistent four year old gelding on any surface and he could have been in the exacta in all 8 races if he hadn't had such a turf trip 2 races back on the SA dirt where he dueled on a dull rail at SA on 18 Jan........exits a good 5F turf race at GG.......rider J J Hernandez had a strong day yesterday on the sod

2  Blitzkrieg   should be closing late

race 2    average clarity

7  Vodka Twist   solid move forward 2nd out after a layoff and Neil Drysdale is often at his very best 3rd out after a layoff........as is 39% win with his last 31........placed well to win........hard not to like

1  All I Can Say   consistent when competing on fast rated conventional dirt......back in short rest (15 days) and that sure has been a good thing in the past......should be on the move in the late stages.......retains solid N Cal rider J J Hernandez

3  Go for a Ride   best ever was run in his only race at Dmr (at today's one mile distance too) and is disguised in it's strength

6  Speakerofthehouse

8  Bodega

race 3    average clarity

1  Lostintranzlation   best speed in the race and draws a good post to utilize it.......often runs her best with ample time off between starts and 2 1/2 months qualifies for that........needs a significant drop and gets one today

9  Dorita's Lemon  following two nice dirt sprint wins to start her career this filly was given a funky looking bad trip by his jock in a one mile turf race.......she did well to be a 3 1/2L beaten 5th...........hopefully Mike Smith will be out to make amends

2  Social Graces   should get a nice stalking trip behind our top choice......nice turf rider upgrade ironically replacing Blanc who rides our top pick

5  Tammy's Window

10  Ruby Bradley

race 4    average clarity

10  Hudson River Park   lifetime best and a strong fit here is his lone sprint race which was run way back in October and it was his MSW debut.......Clifford Sise like so many trainers does awfully well with the MSW to MC move.....last preparatory work at Del Mar indicates he is ready to roll off of the 5 month break

7  Big Cheddar   failed as the favorite with the MSW to MC40K drop in a dirt route.......drops to MC20K today but this time races in a dirt sprint which seems to fit him better.......if this four year old is hanging in there physically then he sure has a big shot to take down this 6 1/2F dirt affair

8  Moana Luna  big improvement in his latest at SA and good works since.......but he might not care for the Dmr surface (2 0 0 0) or would have been rated higher

2  Air Jockey

5  Sharp Speaker

race 5    average clarity

1  First Empress   won her lone lifetime race (and by 9L) off of a multiple level drop and a switch to a top echelon jock........multiple drop down today and goes from Talamo to Pratt.......hmmm

2  Establish   3rd out after a layoff.......blinkers come off today.....races turf to dirt.......improved work since her latest......trainer shows signs of snapping out of a slump.......change in jocks today and that rider J J Hernandez teamed up with Puype for a win yesterday

7  Manresa  nice improvement to graduate in her last with a 6 1/2L win........barn doesn't get too high on her and they place her where she has a shot to win right back

9  Pasito

3  Destiny's Journey

race 6    average clarity

5  Bella Vita   very consistent to start her career........all three lifetime sprints fit very solidly vs today's competition and two of them were on the turf........retains outstanding turf rider Umberto Rispoli..........1st on the Dmr turf is a small question mark

9  Songofthedesert   mom has tossed 2 grass winners so trying the grass for the 1st time in 17 starts seems overdue.......Prat and his agent think she will like it.......if she does handle it 5F appears to be a great distance when examining her running lines

3  D's Lovely Sophia   showed life in lone turf race closing into a ridiculously slow pace......should be a big number

4  Dim Lights

1  Shylock Eddie

race 7    average clarity

5  Oh Marvelous Me   5 for 13 at today's 6F.......retains Prat for a 3rd straight race.......4 lbs less to carry this afternoon......usually a good gate horse but broke slowly in her last from the one hole........1st at Del Mar is a small ? mark

9  Lionite   good history in fast rated conventional dirt sprints.....likes to make wide off the pace moves which has worked well the last two cards at Dmr........good rider/trainer combo over the years in Desormeaux and Hess

1  I'm Busy   CD invader is the speed of the speed and he sure is working sharply for his new trainer M Glatt........and like our 2nd choice he is eligible for added purse money available for out of town invaders

6  Luck's Royal Flush

7  Hot Sean

race 8    average clarity

3  Sharp Samurai   ultra consistent six year old is at his best racing at 9F on the grass (7 4 1 0) ......he should get great position saving ground stalking our 4th selection.........hard not seeing him anything but tough in the late stretch

7  United   (7 3 3 1) when Prat is up and this five year old has the blinkers on.........might be the sharpest he has ever been in the a.m......would easily have been top pick if he wasn't a late runner in a race seemingly set for those up close early

6  Neptune's Tune   (5 2 1 2) at the distance on the turf.........good history with Van Dyke up........somewhat likely to get a reasonable loose lead thus making him dangerous

2  Originaire

race 9    below average clarity

5  Solo Animo   could easily have won either of his two lifetime races (both 5 1/2F on the turf) to graduate if it wasn't for bad trips.......1st dirt and 1st long but he owns a pedigree that should handle both.......that and the D'A is very dangerous the 1st time he sends a given horse a route of ground

6  Charlito   Richard Mandella is stout making the sprint-sprint-route move with a horse and that is what he does with four year old colt 3rd out after a long layoff........retains Rispoli for a 3rd straight race

3  Whirl Candy   impressive works and a telltale change to Prat who is dynamite when teaming up with Baltas......TAKE NOTE: if AE 13 Divine Armor draws in who does Prat take

10  Friar's Road

8  Adare

race 10    above average clarity

1  Camino Del Paraiso   low percentage trainer in Jauregui but he seems to have a good handle on this seven year old who likely has never been sharper..........gelding likes the Del Mar turf and the 1 1/16 distance........good post and a decent turf jock in Van Dyke

2  Galilean    almost every race that this colt has run fits solidly here if of course this Sadler four year old takes to the lawn in his first race on it........he owns a solid pedigree for it and look who wants the mount........Prat and his agent

3  Brandothebartender    quite the 5F turf drill put in a week ago......best work he has shown in many a moon........Dollase has likely tweaked something for the better......the tender of the bar should put in a strong late run

7  Ultimate Bango

11  Irish Heatwave

race 11    below average clarity

5  Vangogo   strong works for this dropping laid up speed horse........right speed jock for the job in Maldonado.......abbreviated sprint distance of 5 1/2F appears to be a plus......hard not to like

6  Wine At Sunset   best lifetime race was run in her 2nd lifetime start.......decent adjusted Santucci fig and the MC75K race turned out to be a key one........so with that in mind look for a much better race 2nd out after a 3 1/2 month break......1st on the dirt but she just put in a nice 4F dirt work at Dmr suggesting she will handle the transition

1  Second Avenue   trainer is very dangerous with dropping laid up runners which is the case today for this Aguirre four year old filly

11  Canadian Ginger

3  Caught in a Trappe
