race 1    average clarity

5  Dehydration  three year old filly is 3 for 4 since the blinkers were removed and the one blemish was likely brought on by a stumbling start........1st out after the Hess claim and with the claim we get a rider upgrade.......such a deal

1  High On Gin   last was dull but her two efforts 2 and 3 back fit fine considering today's lower level.......not sure if we will see a rebound but if she musters one she will have a big shot to take down this race

4  Miss Important

race 2    average clarity

7  Querelle   Peter Miller's four year old filly shows up every time when competing in abbreviated turf sprints as in 2 wins and 3 seconds from 5 starts........that and her two wins were when she started from the outside (post 4 of 5 - post 9 of 10) 7 of 8 today

8  Watch Me Burn   seemingly owns the best early speed in the race and she retains a good speed rider in J J Hernandez who sure is holding his own versus the top riders in S Cal (hope he stays).........filly is coming off of her lifetime best grass race and it was the only time she has been on the Del Mar turf and at today's 5F

5  Lucky Peridot

4  Great Return

2  Holly Hundy

race 3    average clarity

2  As Time Goes By   three year old Baffert filly is training like she has a bright future and she sure owns a strong's a Triple Crown winner and mom has tossed 7 winners from 8 starters two of which were Stakes winners.........Baffert is unreal with MSW 1st time starters as in 38% win with his last 200

7  Classy Ruler   best sprinting and her best of her two sprints was run at Del Mar and it was this girl's MSW debut where she ran sub 1:10 as a two year with that in mind she should be quite dangerous racing fresh off of a 3+ month layoff for John Shirreffs and company

4  Flat Out Joy

5  La V.

race 4    average clarity

3  Into Victory   all three of her lifetime grass races fit solidly with the MSW to MC20K drop if of course she can run as well on the Del Mar dirt.........her pedigree by my book is better for the dirt than the grass........and her recent a.m. at Del Mar supports the notion

12  AE Dolci   both lifetime dirt races fit solidly here at today's much lower level.......trainer is 31% the 1st time he races a given runner for a tag

11  AE  True Mischief   par like effort for this filly in her latest in the 2 Aug version of this race.........she appears to have enough route speed to clear all or most by the back stretch........and if she does I like her chances

6  Gotta Be Lucky

7  Cameo Shores

4  Midnight Jamboree

race 5    average clarity

8  Muchly   latest race for this Callaghan filly might do the trick but what we want is her effort put in 2 or 3 races back........1st ever at the distance of 1 1/16 but when examining her running lines in appears as if it will be a good fit........rider upgrade.....sorry Van Dyke fans

4  Gypsy Spirit   Prat should work out a great trip utilizing the tactical speed that this filly owns.......he should be able to save ground and might even find himself loose on the lead......would have been top pick if wasn't for this girl's overall record (22 1 5 6) which isn't exactly encouraging as far as her desire to win goes

5  Sicilla

7  Gallovie

1  Hollywood Girl

race 6    below average clarity

4  Outlaw   latest race should hide this one's ability as he dueled in decent fractions and did so on a rail that was not a good place to be (especially for speed) on 24 July at Del Mar.......he has run quite well on the Dmr dirt in the past and his a.m. work since the July race is night and day better.......and look who wants the gelding for the 1st time - Flavien Prat

1  Awhitesportscoat   six year old ran a adjusted for trouble par like effort for today's much higher level and that is somewhat disguised by a bad start and a wide trip......and one of the trainer's stronger stats in 2nd out after a layoff which is the case today

2  More Honor

3  Mayan Warrior

9  Vander Kelen

race 7    below average clarity

5  Southern King   vaulted forward two races back to his lifetime best 1st time racing with blinkers.........regressed badly in his next start.......NY bred needs a rebound and if he provides one he should be tough to handle racing in a claiming race for the 1st time........and Miller is not afraid to lose a horse by way of a claim to win a race

8  Hootie   last won't likely do the trick but his race 2 back would.......claimed by O'Neill in his latest and he gets Rispoli to ride thru the claim.......and Umberto is 3 for 6 riding this six year old

2  French Getaway

4  Holy Ghost

6  Worthy Turk

race 8    below average clarity

5  Ensleys Dream   tepid top pick has put in numerous works and some of them are rather has tossed 7 winners from 8 starters......Brian Koriner wins his fair share with MSW 1st time starters

1  Squared Shady   Jeff Bonde is only 6% win with MSW 1st time starters but he gets Smith to accept the mount........and the a.m. work is decent and weekly hinting this filly is in good shape physically speaking

9  Smoothlikebuttah

3  Dylans Wild Cat

2  Needless to Say

race 9    average clarity

4  Mo Forza   returns off of a long layoff with the blinkers taken off and a prolonged good looking work tab that hints he will handle his 1st career layoff well.........and if that is the case he stands out here in this Grade 2 that didn't come up very tough

7  Royal Ship   not sure how well one of the top turf horses in Brazil fits at today's level but he sure trains as if he has acclimated extremely well to Del Mar.......rather sure he is fully fit and will see how fits vs USA competition today

3  Galilean

2  Bombard

10  Kiwi's Dream

race 10    average clarity

9  Express Train   away since September but very strong works for the likes of Shirreffs as he doesn't often push them hard in the a.m.........race two back at Del Mar is off the charts of the top two year old route figs produced in 2019........colt can sprint as well as route as he showed in his MSW debut.......hard not to like

11  Julius   (4 3 0 1) and the 3rd place finish was vs Midcourt where he was less than 2L behind the multiple Graded Stakes winner......rider has had only two mounts for Miller at this meeting and they were both wins on this consistent gelding who loves the Dmr main track

2  Jamming Eddie

5  Appreciated

8  Drop the Chalupa

race 11    below  average clarity

13 AE  K P D Day   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  Mullins is an average trainer these days but not with 2nd time turf runners where he is ever so dangerous........that and top turf jock Rispoli sticks with the gelding who showed life on the grass in the always difficult route turf debut

5  Jack Sprout   made up 6L after sitting dead last in a 5F turf race 4 weeks ago......2nd out after a layoff and this colt owns a decent pedigree for a route.......blinkers go on today and with decent recent a.m. work......dangerous sort

2  Summer Fun   Gaines is 20% win 3rd following a layoff which is the case today........jock upgrade and her latest grass race was not bad......not out of the win picture by any means

10  Huge Bigly

8  Tembo

6  Notre Dame
