Del Mar for Saturday 5 September 2020

So so card today. Sunday's appears much better.

Best of luck as always !

Churchill Downs   race 14   Ky Derby

17  Tiz the Law  tons of talent as he is 6 for 6 on fast tracks and all his wins were by 3L or more........colt has developed into one smooth running push button individual which should help his chances of coping with a far outside post........NY bred already cleared the 10 furlong distance hurtle which many in here have not albeit this is the first Saturday in September and not the first Saturday in May.......3 of his last 4 races are monster figs when you adjust for trip and pace factors.......the only race that he ran that might make him vulnerable is his race 2 back in the 9F Belmont Stakes

4  Storm the Court   ran his lifetime best when it counted the most as a two year by upsetting the apple cart in the B C Juv. last Nov. at Santa Anita.......he dealt with a difficult set of fractions being pressed all the way and yet won at 45 to 1.......he has been nowhere near as good since but he likes SA and as mentioned before horses that like SA usually handle CD quite well.......and I like that he was put on the grass in his latest as it appears to have muscled him up as him a.m. work to follow is improved........good post and a rider who knows CD well in Leparoux........bombs away I hope

16  Honor A. P.   believe this John Shirreffs three year old will appreciate another furlong to run and then some.........and he has money Mike Smith up who is a totally different (better) jock these days on the big days and they don't get any bigger than Derby Day in Ky

2  Max Player

15  Ny Traffic

7  Money Moves

Del Mar race 1    average clarity

5  Kalypso   nice MSW debut sitting awfully close to some nasty fractions especially for a two year old........reassuring drill since the 15 August race.........Espinoza wisely stays put..........Baffert runners at the meet to date have been in the exacta 23 of 43........yikes

6  Queengol   Sadler is very capable with young fillies and he appears to have this two year old ready for her MSW debut off of many weekly drills that got quite good at the end of her a.m. preparation.........and high in demand Prat lands here

4  Beautiful Gift   OK works for this Baffert 1st timer but when her training switched to Del Mar they got awfully good.......Baffert doesn't use Pereira but he does here.......not sure what that is all about

3  Agreetodisagree

race 2    average clarity

3  She's Our Charm   filly owns a record of (5 2 0 1) but basically she has shown up in every race all of which were on the turf........she had trip trouble in 3 of her 5 lifetime races and the two that she didn't she won.......come on Brice Blanc

2  Tonahutu   nicely improved since the O'Neill claim 3 races back.......very solid preparatory work with the dogs up on the turf..........would have been top choice if it wasn't for the Cedillo/O'Neill combo yielding only one win in their last 25 starts as a team

5  Tapwater   2 for 2 on the turf when Prat has been up.........that and this filly gets to race off of short rest for the 1st time in her career which gives her the "potential" of producing her lifetime best

race 3    average clarity

4  Whirl Candy   very strong improved recent drills.......controlling speed in the race.......Prat remains up.........should be tough from start to finish

1  Seiche   gelding was blocked badly in the stretch or would have graduated at 1st asking........1st at a route today and 1st with Cedillo on his back.........and Abel is 5 for his last 11 over the last two months (and with 4 other in the money) riding for Mr. Baffert

6  Divine Armor   gimme go.......turf to dirt.........change in riders........Sadler colt migh be poised for a big race........if he is up to his effort 3 back and can handle the Dmr dirt as well as he has the SA dirt he will have a big shot in this afternoon's race and is rated too low

2  Charlito

5  Garth

race 4    average clarity

2  Bench Judge   1st time Rispoli is a plus.......cut back in turf distance appears to be a plus........back in short rest for the 1st time has the potential of being a plus........jock should get a nice mid pack ground saving position at least to the 2nd turn.........hard not to like

7  Push Through   3 of the last 4 races for this gelding trained by Edward Freeman fit nicely vs. today's competition.........runs well with ample time between starts and gets it today........OK so here is a negative - tends to hang in the stretch

8  Call Caliente   par like efforts in both turf routes when wearing blinkers which remain on today.........turf rider upgrade and for an underrated trainer with grass horses in Eric Kruljac.......dangerous sort

6  Claim of Passion

3  Doc Tommy

race 5    below average clarity

7  Mister Bold   like the lone gate work on 7 August which is by far his best drill showing of the dozen that are listed........believe they got a good look at his ability and did not want to show too much more after that.......might be a decent price in this difficult race to decipher

12 AE  SCRATCHED  Time the Get Go   very good work tab for this Luis Mendez 1st time starter.......and Mendez is very good with two year debut runners........not an easy post but this colt acts in the a.m. like he has good early speed

11 AE  SCRATCHED  Lemon Drop Shot   wide trip in this colt's last or he would have had a chance at winning the 15 August version of this race.......Prat remains up and will be out to produce a more creative ride (as in less wide) than he did in this youngster's debut

10  Swtswgngbillynav

6  Stone's River

4  Red Hot Cat

race 6    below average clarity

7  Offshore Affair   last race was run at a distance that he doesn't seem to have the endurance for........previous race was the July 24th version of this race and in the race he ran incredibly well (4th beaten 3/4L for the win) considering the brutal trip he had......Cedillo can do better

8  Cali Dude   2 of his 3 lifetime dirt races fit solidly here if of course he can produce similar in his 1st on the sod.........decent pedigree for the lawn and his two works on it seem decent enough to believe he will handle it just fine

10  Hit the Seam   best early speed in the race and one dangerous rider/owner duo in Gutierrez & Reddam........last win was 2nd out after a break........same scenario today

12 AE  Jamming Eddy

2  Johnny Podres

3  Brix

race 7    below average clarity

2  Mucho Macho Woman   up for a tag only twice in her career and it led to a 9 1/2 length win and a solid 2nd.........both were run following a couple of dirty her up races.......bad effort in last and back in a claiming race........it's not rocket science

11  Stormin Ranger   exits a fast key race where being beaten by 10 lengths is still a good fig at today's lower level.......a.m. preparation hints this filly is doing OK physically speaking........if that is so she should be tough at today's lowly level

7  Kallinki   powerful internal fractions thru the 6 furlong mark of a one mile turf race for this D'Amato filly........she takes her 2nd straight drop to face a level she can handle if of course she takes to the Dmr dirt

9  Run Like Kona

4  Canadian Ginger

5  Mean Sophia

race 8    above average clarity

6  Fivestar Lynch   1st ever at the 9F turf distance but when examining his running lines it seems as if it will be a good fit.......lifetime best and totally hidden in it's strength is his race two back and it seems noteworthy that it was run the only time he has competed with less than a month between races.........last race 28 days ago

8  Go Daddy Go   last two races were with Valdivia up and he was only one & two lengths from the winner at the wire......switches jocks to top grass jock Rispoli.......that should be worth at least 2 lengths........solid back to back 5F turf works........hard not to like

9  Whopping Jay   last is OK but what we want is his powerful effort two back which would give him as good a shot as anyone in this field of ten

4  Liberal

5  Rocky Tough

race 9    average clarity

7  Tobacco Road   seems at his very best sprinting on fast rated dirt........significant forward move in his latest........if he can repeat it he is likely the one to beat.........Mulhall is done very well with limited starters at the meeting and has a shot to add to her (11 3 1 2) record today

5  Octopus   last two racing endeavors are better than they appear in print.........he dueled in solid fractions on a slightly dull rail in his latest doing well to only be behind the winner by 3 3/4L at the wire.......race prior to that he checked multiple times but still managed to win......good chance to sit near or on the front end in an affair that seems to set up for those that do

2  Camby  3 of his last 4 starts fit well here and that includes his latest where he had a very wide trip and did it up close to the pace.........seems likely to be a major player in this 20Knw3 claiming affair

1  Wild Bean

11  Red Valor

race 10    average clarity

8  Raymundos Secret   best early speed in this 8 horse field and draws highly sought after Flavien Prat so you know this filly is feeling good in this Grade 2 that came up weak........and if she doesn't get they lead she has won 3 times stalking the lead.........should be tough in this made to order spot

2  Lady Prancealot   best credentials (and earnings) in this Grade 2......gets 1st time Rispoli......and by my book her best ever was run in a Grade 1 at Dmr in August of 2019 in a race which was also at 9 furlongs on the grass

4  Pulpit Rider   decent shot to get a nice ground saving trip not surrounded by too many others down the back-stretch.........3 seem quite a bit faster and the 4 others seem quite a bit slower.........such a deal

6  Meal Ticket

3  Don't Blame Judy

race 11    average clarity (SHF carryover of $10K here)

3  Strongconstitution   lone race (run two back) running off of relatively short rest was his lifetime best and it seems noteworthy that it was run at 7F (as a two year old) only one furlong less then the 8F (albeit two turns) that he needs to get today.......last race only 26 days ago......seems meant and ready for best

2  Nolo Contesto   (4 1 3 0) in four dirt routes that were not Stakes races.......stalked a solid set of fractions in his latest and ended up running a strong 2nd in the 1 August version of this nw alw race........endurance building a.m. work since.......hard not seeing this fellow not battling for the win in late stretch

6  Royal Act   very impressive works in preparation for his return to the race wars following a 1/2 year layoff........if he is up to his race 2 back in a Grade 3 at SA where ran a bad trip 2nd he has as good a shot as anyone to win this race..........dangerous sort

5  Ronamo

10  Friar's Road

1  Tizamagician
