Santa Anita for Sunday 11 October 2020

Please check our racing calendar as there are 2 days (only) that we won't have a publication for during the remainder of 2020 and they are coming up soon.

Also Del Mar is implementing a 50 cent pick 6 which I have advocated for for a long time as I believe the pools will be larger than the pick 5 pools. That will provide a chance for large payoffs every day as in no waiting for multiple day carryovers with a the $2 base pick 6.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Kleen Karma   last two races for this Lewis three year old are solid and the recent a.m. work has never been better.......filly might be the sharpest of her career and if that is the case she should be one tough cookie at today's 9F turf distance

5  On Mars   three year old filly is improving one small step at a time and gets Mike Smith back up after he was absent for one race.......and in that race 2 back she won for fun winning going away at the wire by 4 1/2 lengths

1  Empress of Fire   another on the improve but she was beat fair and square by our 2nd choice in her last race.......but Rispoli stays put and he might sit closer in this race void of any early speed like in did in her race two back where she graduated in style with a 2 1/2 length win

race 2    average clarity

4  Seiche   Baffert three year old set a brutal pace with only a short lead and predictably tired late.......appears to have a good shot to get a loose lead which has been a good thing in one mile dirt races in 2020 at SA

1  Mystery Man   not much in his 2nd start which was on the grass but it likely muscled him up some as his prolonged a.m. work tab since has been impressive.......and he ran 4th in his dirt debut at SA despite a bad trip and the race has turned out to be a key one........1st at a route but the connections didn't shell out some significant coin to own a sprinter

5  Big Mel   double barrel action from the Baffert barn as he also trains our top choice........three year old colt seems likely to stalk his barn mate enhancing his chances and that of his buddy

race 3    average clarity

1  Physco Dar  here is our comment prior to his 6 to 1 win as our top pick: "very dangerous speed in this spot and so the switch to one of the better speed jocks on the grounds in Maldonado should be a good move.......last two races for this gelding are better than they appear in print"........the winning race was run in a 40K claiming race.......32K today and appears to be lone speed........Maldonado is licking his chops

4  Mystery Messenger   both of his lifetime races at SA run on the turf at 5 1/2 furlongs fit fine here........Rispoli won one of the two races and in general when Cerin rides the jock he is live

2  Seven Scents   red hot rider in J J Hernandez gets the call and Hess wisely removes the blinkers as this gelding likes to run from off of the pace........believe this four year wakes up today but he will need more pace up front than anticipated.......stranger things have happened

race 4    below average clarity

5  Li'l Grazen   trainer is solid off of 2 or 3 month layoffs and also 1st following a claim and both apply are very strong.......five year old mare is capable on or off of the pace........that versatility is enough to make her top pick-a-rue

4  Golden Principle    lifetime best (and it would be very tough here) was her lone race at SA (5 Jan 20) was also the only time Mike Smith rode her.........needs a wake-up following two poor races at Dmr......change in surfaces and jocks might provide one

1  Paid Informant   par like efforts for today's given level in all three of her lifetime races.......jock wisely stays put and that rider has been on fire the last two days

race 5    average clarity

8  Constantia   back to Rispoli after been absent in his last and Umberto got the most out this Sadler filly as she fired her lifetime best route turf race.......that and this filly owns some early speed in a race totally lacking it........such a deal

2  Siena Silk   dangerous 2nd time starter especially if she breaks better than she did in her debut which was in a turf sprint as she might get good close to the front position in a race shape that favors those that do........and her trainer Richard Baltas stellar 2nd time turf and good 1st time at a route

1  Starship Sky   deep closer gets a top echelon jock up for the first time ever in her 8 career races........needs more pace than anticipated but if she gets with the blinkers going on.........lookout.......should be a handsome price

4  Unbreakable

5  She Loves Karaoke

race 6    below average clarity

5  Apache Pass   big awakening in gal's latest breaking her maiden at the 20K level with a 7 length win where she earned a fig that would win about 40% of the races run at the MSW level.........1st at a route but considering how well she ran at 7F it seems doubtful that 8F and the two turns will be a problem.......loses Prat but also loses 10 lbs with apprentice rider Jessica Pyfer up........hang on girl

3  First Empress   lone win came in her only start at SA and it was at today's one mile distance........she won the race by 10L.........decent shot at getting loose and loose with hot jock J J Hernandez up......dangerous sort

1  Pasito  sprint-sprint - route scenario and for a Knapp filly who is (3 1 2 0) on the SA dirt and (6 0 1 0) everywhere else.......might have been pointed to today's race......if so lookout

race 7    average clarity

4  Big Sur   four year old gelding is the epitome of consistency (10 5 3 1) with the only time missing the board was because of a tardy start and dueling on a dull rail......did well in that race to only be 3 1/4 behind the winner at the wire.........should get a nice stalk position behind the 2 horse

6  Galilean   first turf sprint today following two route turf races that were decent........his lone dirt race at 5 1/2 was one big on the turf at 5 1/2 might bring the best out of him.......we shall see about 4 PM pacific

5  Ultimate Bango   trainer has been on fire at the meeting and he sends out this five year old who is at his best in 5 1/2 furlong grass sprints at SA........dangerous late runner if the race falls apart

race 8    below average clarity

8  Cozy Bear   solid improvement in his 2nd lifetime start and it seems noteworthy that his a.m. since that race at Del Mar has been at SA for the 1st time and it is improved........trainer is decent with MC's and might add to his 18% win stat with MC's here

9  Wedding Groom   another training awfully well since switching to SA........gets quite the rider upgrade........would have been top choice if I wasn't slightly concerned about his ability to hold together for 6 1/2 furlongs

2  Investment Account   takes that ever dangerous drop from MSW racing to MC........that and he should have some staying power at 6 1/2F coming off of two straight turf routes.......should be motoring late

5  Lovesick Blues

6  Cojo

race 9    below average clarity

6  Fly to Mars   drops to face softer as in Cal-breds instead of open company.......1st ever in an abbreviated turf sprint of only 5 1/2 furlongs but when you look at his position in the great majority of his grass routes at the 5 1/2F mark you can see that today's distance might be a very good fit

7  Coalinga Road   on the improve with each and every start and he retains Umberto Rispoli........and this gelding's a.m. work might be the best of his life......very dangerous

1  I Will Not   awfully ambitious move to take this Cal-bred to Dubai for 3 races where the best he did was a 4th......back home where he belongs.......fits fine if he is ready off of a 7 month aren't bad so he might be

10  Brix

9  Short of Ez

2  Zipper Mischief
