Del Mar for Saturday 7 November 2020
Nice card today both in quality and handicapping wise but there is rain in the forecast which is a bummer if the forecast comes to fruition.
Best of luck as always!
race 1Â Â average clarity
(if off the turf: 4-1-5-3)
4 Anaconda  works for this three year old colt from the Mandella barn are as good as you ever see for the trainer for a MSW 1st time starter.........that and mom has tossed two winners from two starters and both were turf winners........that'll do
1 McWherter  O'Neill is getting awfully good in these abbreviated turf sprints and that includes with 1sters.........and he gets the red hot to start the meet Abel Cedillo to rider.........danger city here
3 Leme At Em  another O'Neill MSW 1st time starter who sure was expensive at sale considering his pedigree........and as stated above O'Neill is getting awfully good in these abbreviated turf sprints and that includes with 1sters
race 2Â Â average clarity
2 Take a Leap  five year old mare is vastly improved since switching from the turf to the dirt..........and he last race was one fast time for the level and is qiute a bit better than par for today's slightly tougher level.........Pereira wisely sticks around
6 Madame Barbarian  might be a good claim back by Mullins as this mare is (5 3 1 1) over her last 5 sprint races and (3 2 0 1) for Mullins........(9 3 3 0) on off tracks..........and Jeff puts up one of his go to riders and a very long time in T C Baze
7 Uno Trouble Maker  very good chance like last time out (which was a winning endeavor and a solid race at one level higher) this Bill Spawr mare can stalk the leader and a very suspect one at that.......five year old is ultra consistent racing at today's distance (16 7 2 2).......hot jock gets the mount
1Â Lake Time
race 3Â Â average clarity
2 Luxury Liner  after two straight so so MSW turf races her latest race run off of a layoff might be nothing more than a dirty her up 5 1/2 furlong dirt race gimme......if that is the case she likely will produce the effort she put forth in her only other dirt race which was a solid MSW 5F dirt race last July........and.......the strength of the race is disguised as she broke slow and ran wide
9 Complete Control filly just popped her lifetime best dropping into MC racing for the 1st time......solid 4F drill since hints that more (or at least the similar) has a decent chance of occurring this afternoon
4 Metarose  dangerous looking out of town drills for this filly who has been training in New Mexico.......might have some talent and get ignored at the windows
3Â Big Award
8Â Ms Big
race 4Â Â above average clarity
(if off the turf: 4-6-2-3-7)
4 Cartellate  consistent colt has handled the AW and conventional dirt amassing a record of (8 3 3 2) racing at 5 and 5 1/2 furlongs.........just claimed by O'Neill for 20K and he is training since as if his new conditioner has improved him..........and the fact he moves him up to 50K claiming supports that conclusion.......1st on the grass but owns a pedigree that should handle it.......hot rider up and as mentioned in race one " O'Neill is getting awfully good in abbreviated turf sprints"
6 Silardi  early scratch on Sunday in a nw2 alw race to go here at a softer level of racing and yet at a higher claiming tag........three year old gelding owns 2 wins and a 2nd in 3 turf sprints.......had not seeing this Miller runner not being a major factor in the outcome of this race
7 Rager  three year old gelding won his MSW debut in a 5 1/2 turf race at SA.........and the only time he got ample time between starts (9 weeks) he won again and in another 5 1/2F grass race at SA.........trainer is hot and he often is at he very best 1st time in claiming
8Â Prince Ricky
1Â Hidden Promise
race 5Â Â average clarity
2 Frosteria  strong MSW debut for this Baffert baby who might have graduated at 1st asking over at SA if not for a 3 wide trip.......bullet work since the race and retains Cedillo who is in top form and sure has done well when Bob sees fit to ride him......two year old filly should be tough unless she does not take to the Del Mar surface
5 Nasreddine  broke slow and checked and ran wide in a very eventful MSW debut........two year old filly did well to grab 2nd beaten about 5L for the win.......and.......his trainer Michael McCarthy is much more dangerous with 2nd time starters
6 Agreetodisagree  another with a very bad trip in her MSW........blinkers go on and her works are much better hinting the equipment change has worked out well in the a.m........if she carries that over to the p.m. she should be a player in this spot
3Â Helen Marie
4Â Moonlight d'Oro
race 6Â Â above average clarity
(if off the turf: 2-6-4-9-7)
6 Whooping Jay  gelding is (3 2 1 0) racing "fresh" and he is 2 months fresh today........that suggests O'Neill will have this four year old ready to roll........all three lifetime route grass races fit but if he puts forth the effort 3 back he would be very difficult to overcome
3 Comradery  on the improve with each and every race and if the trend continues this afternoon he should be poised for a par like effort or even better.........and unless you are a touring pro par or a little better is a good thing
5 Masteroffoxhounds  Baltas won with a Euro invader on opening day as our $9.20 top choice........stout turf trainer might be at it again with this colt who is only (6 1 1 1) lifetime racing in Ireland but many of his races turned out to be key affairs........seems dangerous
7Â M Town Gem
8Â Via Egnatia
race 7Â Â average clarity
7 Play Chicken  never easy to win your MSW debut as a two year old in a route turf race but this O'Neill colt was up to the task........that race should put plenty of endurance into him for today's seven furlong dirt race.......he should be finishing well when many will in here will be fading
2 Touchdown Brown  earned the best number in the field two races back with the blinkers on........nowheresville (blinkers off) in his next start which was way over his head in a Grade one race.........blinkers go back on today..........nice 4 endurance building works series preparing for today's race........hard not to like
5 Tacoflavoredkisses  trainer is very dangerous with the sprint-route-sprint maneuver which is the case here......and the fact he won his route bodes well for his chances to handle the somewhat grueling one turn 7F distance.......and he gets 1st time Mike Smith
8Â Ascot Storm
6Â Positivity
race 8Â Â average clarity
(if off the turf: 3-7-2-9-6)
7 Magical Gray  impressive win off of a 7 month layoff in a 5 1/2 furlong turf sprint where he changed his running style from a front runner to an off the pace runner......and it appears that the race did a world of good as his a.m. work since is stellar......like his chances to go back to back
5 Mischiffie  the D'A appears to mean business as he drops this filly a level to help get her to the circle of joy and he just put in a fast bullet turf work into her........like our top choice she likely will come from off of the pace
6 Watch Me Burn  seems night and day better on the Dmr turf than the SA turf (both in final time and in pace).......filly should be in the mix from the get go and if she doesn't get caught 3 wide or worse she should be tough in the stretch drive
