Santa Anita for Friday 18 June 2021

Time constraints for the final 3 race cards at SA mostly because of water in my basement (brutal cleaning up especially with a sore throat and cold) and more races than I anticipated (11 every day) mean comments for our top choice only. Just a reminder that I never shortchange the time I put in handicapping.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

6 Il Capitano   Lerner has won with 1 of his last 4 with runners making their debut on the grass and another of the 4 ran has tossed 3 turf winners from 5 starters........trainer is quietly having a good Santa Anita meeting.....Andrew ups his win percentage to 20% with a win here

3  Lookout Point

1  Oviatt Class

11  Flash of Genius

5  Miss Bellatrix

race 2    average clarity

5  Summer Rose   nice move forward 1st time racing in a route for this D'Amato five year old mare........and since the 28 May race this lady worked very impressively especially considering this is a F&M MC20K.........should be mix from the get go and tough thru out

6  Circle of Honor

1  Class Code

3  Pancakes

8  Queen of Love

race 3    way below average clarity

1  Auspicious Style   showed some life in his 6 1/2 furlong MSW turf debut beating 6 of 10 foes in a race back on April 25th........returns as a 1st time gelding and the blinkers also go for the first time......and just what you want to see with the two changes as in his best listed work to was only put in 6 days ago at the distance of 5F

3  Really Big News

2  Harbor Sky

10  Donner Lake

4  Hot Spot

race 4    average clarity

1  Dr. Schivel   some chance that this race is a tune-up as this Glatt three year old colt who has been away since Sept. won both of his four lifetime races (and very impressively) at Del Mar but if he his ready to roll he stands out here.......and his a.m. works suggests that today's race is a "GO"

4  Canadian Pride

5  Speed Pass

race 5    average clarity

2  A New Peace   smooth running sort since Valdivia has been aboard has run three straight turf route races where she earned Santucci figs that are better than par for today's level of racing........she tries a turf sprint today and she owns enough speed to stay close to the front.........and the 6 1/2F should help her chances of getting to the lead by the wire

4  Loud Loud Music

7  Madame Barbarian

6  Invincibella

5  Lavender

race 6    average clarity

2  She's a  Dime   sprinter just fired her lifetime best in her first ever one mile dirt race and the effort fits fine in this spot........same post and same bug boy aboard in Centeno......five year old mare like last time has a shot to get loose on the her chances if she does grab the early lead

3  Shezaghost

4  Ole Silver

race 7    average clarity

4  Brittle and Yoo   four year old filly has been away since 31 March where she fired her lifetime best at OP in her 1st route hint Sadler has her ready.......and she showed she can handle the sod in 3 sprints on it.......Rispoli is up and when Sadler puts up Umberto his horses have been very live

6  Buy Wave Buy

7  Starship Sky

5  Predictable Tully

2  Listen to Blue

race 8    average clarity

1  Mulligan   both lifetime races were turf sprints which were run last Fall.......those efforts fit just fine here if this four year old filly can run as well on the dirt and handle the 8 month suggest Baltas has her ready.......pedigree for the dirt seems better than for the turf by my book

5  Flat Out Joy

2  Livingmybestlife

6  Agreetodisagree

8  Taming the Tigress

race 9    average clarity

1  Hudson Ridge   quite the win for this Baffert colt who was pushed out badly at the start of a 9F grass race and he still overcame the bad start to graduate and graduate in a $100K Stakes race......thus.......he is still eligible for today nw alw race.......such a deal

7  Flashiest

2  Airman

8  Law Professor

3  Vantage Point

race 10    above average clarity

2  Ax Man   plenty to like here with this Baffert six year old.......6 for 12 on the SA dirt and 1 for 5 everywhere else.......3 for 3 at today's one mile dirt distance........away since mid April but the works are stellar even by Baffert standards.......and the gelding sure looks loose on the lead

5  Midcourt

3  Mastering

race 11    below average clarity

1  La Gioiosa   Gallagher has two stats that are significant and one is rather glaring in a good way........he is rather proficient the 2nd time he takes over the training duties of a given horse which is today's scenario.....and the "glaring" stat is 43% win "2nd time Lasix"........filly ran 2nd in a Grade 3 versus the boys last Summer in France and this is a MSW race.......hard not to like

3  Norma Jean B.

9  Rhythm

5  Cider Apple

4  Lookintogeteven
