Santa Anita for Friday 22 October 2021

TAKE NOTE: Just wanted everyone to know that major changes are coming to The Racing Digest next year which I will post sometime by the end of the month.

Seems like a decent card today. So so race card for Saturday. Good one for Sunday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

There is a SHF carryover for race 1 of $12K.

6  Optimistic Valor   1st out for this gelding since switching trainers to Peter Miller.........three year old is 3 for 5 at today's one mile turf distance and his last one mile grass race was run 2 races back in July......the effort is very solid and is disguised it its strength........Prat up.......hard not to like

2  Mucho Del Oro   three year old gelding was just claimed by Baltas on 6 September and Richie will likely have him ready to roll to take advantage of the SA turf as his new acquisition is a prefect 2 for 2 on the SA sod.....turf jock upgrade for today to boot

1  Kennebec

3  Cane creek Road

race 2    above average clarity

5  Red Valor   five year old gelding won his last 5 races when not wearing blinkers and today's rider Cedillo was up for 4 of them......gelding is capable on or off of the pace and seemingly has never been sharper in his a.m. preparation........for the most part Knapp has sent out "live" runners at the SA meeting and appears to have another one today

4  Colosi   six year old likes the SA dirt (6 3 1 0) and was just claimed by Bill Spawr.......gelding is 1 for 1 racing at today's 7F distance and the race was at SA......trainer has had tough 2021 but he might jump start things here

2  Leprino

race 3    below average clarity

20 cent Pick 6 carryover now stands at $534K and starts here.

10  Good Vibes Only   tepid top choice in a tough race to decipher........trainer has been quite "live" at the new SA meeting albeit with limited starts (5 1 3 0) and the last two times he legged up Kyle Fry he scored a win and a 2nd......copious drills and very nice back to back works in August and then the trainer (maybe) backed off so as not show too much more and get claimed for MC50K

4  What an Idea   another 1st time starter and considering Miller and Prat are at the helm (35% W & 65% in the $ last 34) one would think this three year can run some

1  Midnight Somewhere

7  Straus's Place

5  Rich Warrior

race 4    above average clarity

3  Messier   MSW debut for this Baffert baby was back in June where he ran a par like effort for the two year old MSW level at Lrc.........away since the decent run and he sure has trained at SA as if he really likes its dirt surface........Prat gets the call and he and Bob B. are really starting to be one of the more formidable teams in all of racing

4  Blackadder   well-bred and well-trained MSW 1st timer gives Baffert two bullets in this affair that appears awfully soft outside of the Baffert starters

6  Cover Me Up

race 5    average clarity

4  Freedom Lass   last race is better than par for today's given level and might do the trick but what we really want his her effort 3 back which was run at SA and at today's one mile turf distance.........she only lost by 1/2 length for the win in a fast heat with way too wide of a trip......she earned a Santucci fig that is off the charts for the level

1  Lady Noquez   seems best on the SA turf and she is working for Cerin and company like she is returning from her 3 September race an improved individual and with plenty of speed put into her to her adjust to the cut back in distance.....trainer is in "go mode" these days

5  Cinnte Winnte

3  Aloha Kitten

race 6    average clarity

1  Rain Diva   four year old filly is 2 for 2 when up for a tag on the dirt and the margin of victory was impressive as in 7L & 8L......that and this Glatt four year old is a perfect 3 for 3 on the SA main track with two of the wins coming at 6F breaking from the one post

3  Delta Wind   (3 1 2 0) on the dirt and the two 2nd place finishes were both by only a rider/trainer combo in Bravo and Sadler..........Joe Bravo needs to avoid a speed duel one way or another

2  So Very Smart

race 7    above average clarity

2  Dendera   after breaking her MSW  by 4 1/4 lengths in her 2nd lifetime start and 1st at a route and on the grass she moved forward in her next start both in final time and pace........that race was in a Stakes where she put in a respectable effort......nw alw race today and back to Prat (after being absent for a race) who was up for her wide margin MSW win

1  Rose Maddox   poor trip in her MSW debut at GG on the AW in a sprint but she overcame the trip and still graduated at 1st asking........good pedigree to handle the sod and an OK pedigree to handle the two turns......draws Rispoli having a very nice SA meeting so far

4  Maggie Fitzgerald

race 8    average clarity

4  Naughty Evelyn   need to lead type can get what he needs as in a loose lead as he appears to have the best early speed in the field.......quite the step up but his effort/fig in his latest where he won by double digits fits well here.......and the effort is supported by the fact 3rd place (beaten by a dozen lengths) came back to win

5  Brittle and You   bug girl Pyfer should sit pretty stalking our top selection on a filly who arguably ran her best dirt race to date in her lone dirt route.........would have been top choice if the four year old didn't have a tendency to hang in the stretch

3  La Pulcinela

7  Beirut Beauty
