Santa Anita for Friday 26 May 2023

Decent card today with only 10 of the 59 horses entered up for a tag and the lowest tag is $32,000. Not bad for a Friday. Next publication for Santa Anita is Friday June 2nd.

Best of luck as always !

race 1  average clarity

3  Unjokable   turf to dirt for this youngster making her 2nd start in the U S of A following two decent dirt efforts in Dubai......O'Neill's filly should be fit and ready for today's race and if she breaks cleanly she owns some decent early speed and that is rather hidden

5  Sweet Mother Mary   prolonged decent looking work tab for this Ron Ellis 1st time starter who draws Mike Smith for his lone mount on the card........especially like the last drill (47:4 Hg) put in only 4 days ago.....the trainer starts very few these days but he has been making the most of his starts

2  Collectmythoughts

6  Side by Side

race 2  average clarity

3  Slam Diego  needs to be ready type as it likely will be 50 or more days until she can race again as a race usually knocks her out to some degree......because of this Mullins likely has her very ready to roll......big race 2 back as it was a very key race.....bad trip in her last race or she could have won the 1 April version of the one mile "starter 50" grass race

5  Tiergarten   could be a very good $50K claim by Steve Knapp as this five year old is improving.....and Steve shows patience and gives his newbie two months off as she ran awfully well in her last two racing endeavors with two months off......J J Hernandez stays put for a 4th straight race which is a positive sign he believes in this mare's ability/potential

4  Rose Barton

race 3   average clarity

5  Worcester   rebound time for this Baffert colt who ran a clunker in the UAE Derby in Dubai.......two months since the race and in the interim this three year old has trained well on the SA dirt which he has shown he can handle and his last two races on it stand out here

1  Austonian   bet hard in his MSW debut and ran a very strong effort but ran 2nd at 3 to 5........toss his 2nd out as he had a bad trip......works since the 9 April race are impressive especially his 1:11:3 & 59 flat works......pedigree for the one mile challenge is so so but his work regiment hints he can handle the two turns

3  Dazzlemesilver

race 4  average clarity

4  Sweet Halo   Papaprodromou filly is (4 1 3 0) racing on the dirt without blinkers and on Lasix......and she just graduated in style with a 17 length win albeit in a MC20K.....in her lone grass race which like today was run at one mile she opened up a big lead but cashed it in baldly in the stretch....but she ran the race without Lasix......Lasix today and she has the best ES in the race........retains Rispoli.......plenty to like

1  Awesome Taylor  big race 4 back at today's one mile turf distance and it was a key race (and a fast time for the given level) where she ran 4th with 1st and 3rd coming back to to win.....the effort was the only time this four year old ran at today's one mile turf distance....that and her only other grass race which was run at 5 1/2F is not too shabby either

2  Good Boo Joo

race 5  average clarity

1  Clooney  on the improve with each and every race and if the trend continues this Sadler three year old should make a good account of himself this afternoon......the gelding is an off pace runner in a race that should unfold with a lively pace......the meets top gun J J Hernandez wisely stays put

3  Ghazaaly   another runner who should benefit from a lively pace up front......and toss out his last two races as he had a brutal no chance whatsoever trip in his last and he didn't handle a sloppy track at all two races back......10% win apprentice rider up but he is 20% win in dirt routes

4  Deservedly

6  Quick Buck

5  Fireman Dan

race 6  average clarity

4  Please Focus   only turf sprint is his lifetime best race stopping the clock in a 5 1/2F turf race in an impressive 102:2....and the O'Neill gelding should have some solid staying power today cutting back in distance to 6F after two straight 8F races......jock knows this three year old well having been up for all nine lifetime races

5  Seismic Spirit   (6 2 2 2) racing on the sod when competing in the USA and like our top choice he should benefit endurance wise cutting back in distance today.......good sign that Hernandez rides for the 5th straight time today

8  Inch

3  Thunderheart

7  Westward Look

race 7  average clarity

4  Sharp Ride   very dangerous trainer in Dean Pederson with 1st time starters that show strong works......this filly not only owns some impressive drills but she hasn't missed a beat in the a.m. dating back to at least 6 March.....decent sire and mom has tossed one winner from one starter.....hard not to like this three year old filly

6  Organic   nice move forward last summer as a two year old in her 2nd lifetime start off of 3 weeks rest.......nice 2nd off of the 9 month break in her 3rd start........that race was 3 weeks ago.......hmmm

5  Bold Choice

2  Flymetothemoonbaby

1  Sweet Vengeance

race 8  average clarity

1  Madiha   filly has a good history rebounding off of bad races.....dull race in latest run 4 weeks ago and an impressive best of 28 work on the SA dirt since.....rather sure this Dollase four year old is ready for her best.....but the bug boy is only 2 for his last 75 on the grass....he does have a good post to work with

6  Sunshine Babe  one mile grass races are strong (10 1 3 3) and she could have had 2 wins if not disqualified to 2nd in her race 5 back.....red hot jock in Kent Desormeaux stays put....Kent is as good as anyone when he is "feeling good"

8  Rosie Forecast

7  Big Claire

5  Shezmisbehaving
