race 2    17 May

4  Matriculate   3 for 3 at today's somewhat specialized 7F sprint distance and his latest race which was a 7F win at 16K fits solidly at today's 25K level.........seven year old gelding ran three wide up on a hot pace and still managed to pull away from the pack to win going away........same effort even with just an OK trip should get the job done here

3  Spokane Eagle  won and paid $5.80  change in trainers today from one hot trainer at GG to an even hotter trainer at SA in Doug O'Neill........gelding has a decent history racing at SA especially on days the track played a little slower albeit not as slow as it is playing now........sharp bullet preparatory work on the SA tr.t.......dangerous sort

2  Sheer Flattery   goofy looking race in his last and drops two claiming levels today........races 3 back and 5 back look good....... .we might see something similar today from this Knapp (4 wins with 7 starters last week!) five-year old runner

race 3   12 May   2-3 exacta paid $22.60

3  Go Big Blue Nation  stands out here with the best a.m. work in the field by far.......and Bonde wins his fair share of this early races for the babies......good rider/trainer team to boot

2  Acai   decent work tab but whereas our top choice is working at Santa Anita this filly is training over at Slr. so the surface change is a ? mark

5  A Thousand Dreams   only four works showing but her last drill for O'Neill (also trains our 2nd selection) seems like her best work and she gets Prat on her back

race 5   10 May   3-2 exacta paid $20.40

2  Cabin John  talk about moving forward in his 1st effort on the new much deeper/slower SA dirt surface......his Santucci fig earned (all pace adjustment) is about 7 lengths better than par for today's higher level of racing........two reassuring maintenance works since.......should be tough if he holds form

3  Treasure Hunter   another coming off a much better than par one mile route race in his latest.......but he has been away 2 1/2 months.....if he returns as good as he was he might have just as good a shot of taking down this race as our top choice

5  Arch Prince as stated in today's 2nd race Quinonez could use a winner and he has some shot to get one here as this gelding drops multiple levels and also cuts back 1/2 mile in distance.......his endurance should be enhanced.....still he likely will need our top two picks to press the issue early and often which they just might wind up doing

race 8   5 May  1-3 exacta paid $52.80

3  Tough But Nice  got a gift win in his latest as he got away with a pedestrian pace to wire that field.......might feel great coming off of such a stress free lead and his works since the 7 April race support the notion.......that and he is (4 3 0 1) the last four times he has gotten loose on a lead......seemingly only one speed horse to put away in the five horse

1  Platinum Equity   Knapp puts his new shooter (claimed two back) in a race where he can't be claimed hinting that his new addition to the barn is doing well.....and a recent bullet drill sure supports the idea......3 for 6 on the SA dirt........1 for 14 racing anywhere else

2  Kochess   gelding has seen better days but like our 2nd pick he has been placed in a race where he can't get claimed suggesting he doing well......lookout if this Hollendorfer nine-year old is ready to turn the corner

race 8   4 May

4  Coil Me Home  very consistent sort just ran a very impressive 2nd in the 7 April version of the nw alw race as he broke tardy and then ran wide on a day the rail was slightly biased........that and he should be just off of the lead in this race lacking speed in what should be a soft pace

5  Flagstaff  (Won and paid $5.00)   laid up Sadler five-year old whose younger brother is Game Winner has a decent chance to grab the lead and set some soft fractions.....that is if he his fit enough off of a long layoff.......decent a.m. work suggests that he is

2  Dia de Pago   talented colt also seems ready fresh off of the bench with a prolonged series of tightly spaced every 6 days works (a la Mike Mitchell style)........still he might need more pace than anticipated to get up in time as he likely will be towards the rear of the field in the early stages

race 2   28 April  3-5 exacta hit COLD for $36.80

3  Muchos Besos  toss out last two races on the slop......good history for this 10 year on deep fast tracks which we sure have these days at SA.......blinkers on to shake things up and if his work tab is worth a hoot the equipment change sure appears to have woken up this old-timer

5  Dukes   another who likes deep fast tracks and it sure showed in his latest.......drops a couple of claiming levels and makes a significant jock upgrade.......should be tough if he holds form

4  Pioneerof the West   away 2+ months and shows only 4 works since last seen on 23 Feb.......so.........I am a little skeptical about how fit this fellow is at the moment.......but......if he is he will have a shot in this spot

race 6   27 April

5  True Validity   all three lifetime races run on the SA main track when rated fast fine here......not too shabby at SA on an off track either.......won today's race condition in her latest.......three reassuring works since the better than par race......definitely the one to overcome

4  Time for Kisses  poor trip racing over her head combine to help hide an effort that is better than par when you adjust for 6 or 7 lengths of trip trouble......back in 21 days 2nd out after a long layoff seems like a good set up as she broke her maiden in her 2nd lifetime start off of 24 days rest

2  Rather Nosy   moved forward in her last but it still wasn't good enough to beat our top choice........she did earn a Santucci fig that was only 2L less than our top choice and her a.m. work seems a touch better.......not impossible to turn the table

race 7   26 April   2-6-3 trifecta hit COLD for $107.20

2  Gliding By   sure like the turf route to turf sprint move combined with running 2nd out following a 2 month break......that and this mare should be in the mix from the get go in this affair that sure lacks early speed for a 5F turf race.......rider upgrade to Prat who owns a win % on the grass that is about 3X better than the previous rider

6  Littlefirefighter   bit of a dichotomy for this laid up first time in the R Mandella barn east coast invader.......Mandella is 20% win with layoffs of 3 months or more but he is 0 for his last 20 "1st time with trainer"......very stout work tab hints that we should ignore his "1st time with trainer" stat especially considering how well the trainer has being doing at the SA meeting

3  Ficanas   bad breaking filly just ran an extremely strong race down the SA hill......she broke 2 slow out of the gate and then ran 4 wide and she still managed to win going away at the wire for a 2 3/4L win in a nw alw race.......that adjusted for trouble fig was better than par for today's higher alw level.....still she likely will need to break better like she did two back to get up in time in a 5F grass race
