Handicappers Corner

Welcome to our one week old website that is here to stay for a very long time. We are excited to announce that we now own Top Turf Today which we have been using for the past 3 years for our source for superior figures and trip notes on California grass races. Our handicapper does the figure making for Top Turf Today so obviously his knowledge of it's use is at the highest level. Quite a plus for The Racing Digest members.

If anyone has interest in purchasing Top Turf  Today it can be purchased at 1/2 the regular price if you are a current or fairly recent "Digest" member.

Top Turf Today is only useful to folks who have at least an average level of handicapping ability. It is not a selection service like this publication.

We would appreciate it if any of you know any trainers, owners, or handicappers to please let them know about Top Turf Today. We feel strongly it would help them immensely. And it is a bargain compared to similar products that are out there.

O.K.  card today if the rain doesn't mess with the track too much.

Recommended pick 3 part wheel  3rd race  1, 2, 6 with 3, 5, 6, 9 with 2, 4       24 bets

Race 1    average clarity

2 Candy Arches not the best of journeys in latest and still only got beat by 4..... often flattens a little at 1 1/16miles  so the 1 mile distance should help

1  Outside Shot consistently competitive in all 6 lifetime route races and at 4 different racetracks.....good history back in short rest....plenty of speed to soften things up for his off pace style

4  Absolute Glory improved since the blinkers became part of his repertoire four races ago.....closer gets what he needs...a projected solid pace up front

Race 2    average clarity

4  Minute Limit easily the best turf credentials in this group....only concern is the possible lack of pace for her closing style

3  Glided Gem on the improve with every start albeit in the AW....mom has yet to produce a grass runner but dad (Smarty Jones) is hot new turf sire

1  Barbara's Love just claimed and steps up quite a bit but she's got some early foot in a race that lacks it

PICKS IF THE RACE IS OFF THE TURF     3, 5, 1

Race 3    average clarity

2  Point Attended new trainer takes over has has put 5 tightly spaced works into this gelding and drops.....easily has done his best running at today's 6F distance

1  Capt. Sparrow great job of training by Carava since he claimed back in Nov.....on the improve with every start and up the claiming ladder....had about 6 lengths of trouble in last and still won

6  My Man Murf 3rd out only after a very long layoff of 26 months......bullet 4F drill out of nowhere last week hints that this horse maybe coming around to his 2007 form

Race 4   average clarity (picks OK for turf or AW)

6  Sensational News pricey 4 year old is training as if he is something special and ready to roll in his maiden debut...not only is he hitting the track every 5 days but he owns some bullet drills

3  Danzing Tribal low % barn but used to be decent with 1st timers and this gelding is training like a runner ........good hint he's ready in debut is that Mike Smith wants the mount

5  Sweet Maker decent maiden debut run exactly 1 year ago today...was 27 to 1 that day so I doubt he was fully wound up....works say he is today...very nice turf breeding

9  Milyone Shirreffs has sent out 2 recent winners very similar to this horse......they like this guy looked like they could use a drop in class but didn't....recent bullet drill hints at another wake up

Race 5    average clarity

4  Diplo in my notes on this horse I said "good stretch, very big strides.....that says to me he should appreciate a route of ground...bred to handle the middle distances like 1 mile

2  Johnnie Gold Avila barn has a dismal record record with 1st timers but this colt is working exceptionally well and the trainer has put both speed and endurance into him

1  Rocque's Gold useful debut was probably the tune-up for today's route race....blinkers on so he may show markedly better early speed especially from the post...good trainer/jockey combo

5  Ministers D'oro another with a useful debut....solid breeding especially for a Cal bred to get the 1 mile distance....Gomez sticks with the youngster

Race 6   average clarity (picks OK for turf or the AW)

5  Sky Marni 5 wins and 2 2nd's in this gal's last 9 starts including a solid move forward 1st after the claim in last...only grass race was on the hill and it fits as well

4  Justincredible works hint at a rebound for this filly today.....lead type only so far in her career so Mike Smith sure seems like the right guy for the job

6  Sindyfromsantacruz very competitive in 7 of 8 career races and Mitchell trained....not much more to say then that

3  Victory Dancer improving horse since learned to rate......just claimed and some nice works put in by the new barn....do like somewhat  more if the race shifts to the AW

Race 7    average clarity

8  Haka last race run on the AW was at SA last Feb ....that race would crush these...maybe just a case of too many races on the grass

2  Woman Warrior set nasty nasty fractions in last...lookout if new jock gets her to slow down

3  Madel on the improve with every start....nice 5F drill in prep. for 1st route run

5  Fund Raiser consistent runner....trains as if she should fire once again

Race 8   average clarity (picks OK for the turf or AW)

2  Liberian Freighter nice prep in last and full throttle today...can rate and that's big here...should be a brutal pace up front

6  Compari terrific speed-ball will have to fly to win or learn to rate....Gomez up may really help this type

5  Red Sun owns good speed as well......has rated just off the pace before....it would behove the jock to do the same today

3  Kalookan Storm one of the few true closers in the race......great spot for a horse that is a little short of the top horse's in here

Race 9    average clarity

1  Gray Zulu works say very ready...barn is very reliable when they show solid drills

10  Chimu horrid start out of the gate then looked like a racehorse....Bejarano can make amends

5  Time To Think Rich 1ster sure seems ready with his good looking work tab for this level

6  Duty Before Honor same as above

13  Born To Shop already proved he's very fast early and now blinkers on...shot to wire
