Santa Anita for Wednesday 14 April 2010

Handicappers Corner

Last week of Santa Anita starts off with 4 races on the grass which is something I usually appreciate.

Recommended pick 3 starts in race number 5

ALL  with  3,4,5  with  5,8    42  bets

race 1    slightly above average clarity

6  Royal F J   has really fired some significant efforts not to have graduated yet......1st time in small field on the grass should help get this closer home

5  Megastar   nice stretch run into a dull pace....Ellis has been hot the 2nd 1/2 of the SA meeting

3  Hog's Hollow   believe this gelding prefers the grass and he just fired his best ever on the AW....sooooo....good shot we see best evr on the sod today

race 2    2 furlongs, no comments

8  Miss Marsha Lee

1  Auntie Maud

3  Cayanna

7  Michailasheartlite

race 3    average clarity

1  Kazroad   figs work out to be rather solid in this seldom carded condition claimer on the grass for 25K

4  Costa Marta   earned a best ever number in only grass race she's run with a wide trip which hides her ability somewhat

5  Fleet Royal  exits a very fast heat on the AW at today's distance....bred to handle the sod

race 4    average clarity

1  Johnnie Gold   1ster catches a soft looking bunch....not a 1st time starter barn but this one sure trains as if he is well meant in his maiden claiming debut and the barn has has a stellar meeting

2  Sticky Candy   hasn't run since early Dec but this Sadler claim back is training up to snuff and faces an easy field

5  Roos On The Loose   believe last at a route was to put endurance into this sprinters finish...blinkers on.....chance to be prominent thru-out

8  Speedy Marini   last might have been a learning experience tune-up in MSW to be fitter and wiser for his 2nd lifetime race at an easier level

race 5    slightly below average clarity

6  Kuro   experienced on the hill course....2 sharp drills....barns had a very nice meet

1  Formal V.  on the improve with every start and now gives the turf a try......average at best pedigree for the lawn

7  Drink At Last   trainer and rider have won 4 of their last 6 as a team.....another on the right end of the learning curve....1st on the lawn with good enough grass breeding

race 6    slightly above average clarity

5  Lions Story   on the improve with every start.....4 works since he ran a lifetime top just 5 weeks ago signals this 3 year old can repeat that effort or possibly move forward again

4  Concord Point   very impressive in both lifetime starts.....chased a fast pace 4 wide in last and still beaten less then 2 lengths....fresh with solid works

3  Malone Slam   crushed foes in breaking maiden at Tup....training as if he handles the Pro-ride just fine...especially like 59:4 breezing drill just 4 days ago

race 7    average clarity

5  Gilligan   gelding is very consistent running a route of ground on the turf or the AW......gets plenty of pace to set things up for his strong late running style

8  Buyer's Remorse   has been facing better on the synthetic in sprints....so...it becomes a question of his ability to handle the grass & two turns....breeding seems better than average to handle both

3  Really Uptown  1st on the sod in last and ran a fig that fits here....would have been rated higher but Bejarano gets off the horse for Flores who hasn't exactly been tearing them up on the turf of late

7  Bradio Station   last 4 times this c0lt has run with relatively short rest he has fired his best....that's today's scenario...deep closer seemingly gets plenty of pace up front

race 8  average clarity

1  Letsgetitright   stands out versus this soft looking group both in the way he has run and the way he is training....a ton if he can break cleanly from a difficult post at 6 1/2 F

4  P Forty Warhawk   seems like a great spot for a 1st starter who is training well because only our top pick has shown he is a runner

6  E. P. Bombay   only lifetime start which was in July wasn't much....but.....training as if ready fresh off of the bench for P Miller who is dangerous with long layoff dropping maiden types

2  Sky'squickscore   horrid run in last but his race 2 back fits....may be the quickest early and get away

7  Deem   lone start back in early December wasn't too bad......can be a factor if he is ready off of the 4 momth layoff
