Hollywood for Saturday 1 May 2010

Handicappers Corner

Well we sure were dead on in the Kentucky Oaks scoring a heck of a nice exacta and trifecta keying our top pick over our other 4 selections. But the Derby offers a bigger challenge with all the rain in the forecast. One thing I personally like is that our other handicapper, Dave Gordon basically likes the same horses as I do with one exception...my 2nd choice is his top choice and it is a price. Here are the horse's I like in order of preference.

[private]

1  Lookin At Lucky

14  Mission Inpazible

10  Paddy O'Prado

2  Ice Box

16  Awesome Act

4  Super Saver

20  Sidney's Candy

Best pick 3 sequence at Hollywood I can find starts in the 9th race

pick 3 part wheel (60 bets)  3,5,7,8,9 /2,4,8 / 5,6,8,9

race 1    average clarity

5  Dotsy Jean   loves the Hollywood turf course with a stellar hard to play against 3 wins in 4 starts all at 6 furlongs....abbreviated 5 horse field should help assure a good trip

1  Sweet August Moon   seems very sharp in the morning....seems probable that will be enough early speed up front to soften things up for her close

race 2    average clarity

7  Tappin Tough   Walter Solis has already won 2 MSW baby races with 1st timers (we picked on top of course) and he appears to be ready with this 1st starter as well

9  Cabo San Lucas   trains very fast and ran fast just missing at 2 furlongs...would have been top choice but I'm a bit concerned that this colt has yet to drill past 3 furlongs

5  On A High   first timer owns two very quick gate works and has the breeding to be developed enough to be a 2 year old runner

10  Georgia's Friend   small barn (these Days) used to win many MSW affairs in the past...this one trains well enough to be dangerous

race 3    average clarity

4  Big Wags   earned a solid improved fig with a wide trip in last....2 reassuring works since....smarter ride may put him into the circle of joy

12  Big Jay   T C Baze has won his last 3 rides for Cerin.....turns back to a sprint which seems like a good thing....closes in sprints....flattens in routes

8  Roos On The Loose   blinkers on in last and the move improved this colt.....repeat of that effort puts him in the mix here

1  Tea Party Time   46 to 1 in debut hints at not being all that wound up for his debut into the racing world.....most likely more fit for today...jock sure needs to improve on his dismal 2010 record

race 4   average clarity

2  Luckiest Man   barn's been ready so far this meet and sure appear to have this colt all wound up for his return to the grass...hot rider for barn as well

4  Dave's Pacemaker   stellar sprint record on the main track less than 7F .......gives the grass a try with average turf breeding.....barn is hot

5  Unionize   decent sprint history on the AW.......OK breeding for the sod

race 5    average clarity

8  Lichtenstein   kind of surprised they are dropping this colt but the works suggest he is the same horse and he should win this if he is

2  Seventh Star   good turf sprints in Ireland last Summer....tight interval drills has wound up nicely for 1st run off of the layoff....Mitchell has won 2 of his last 4 ship ins to the USA

5  Johnnie Gold  trained big before debut and ran so so....training big since that race and steps up a notch....have to give hot barn another shot

7  Tuba Man   nice debut in a good field of mdn 50K claimers.....barn is usually better with 2nd time starters so expecting a move forward

race 6    average clarity

4  Premier Flyer   race sets up for his closing style.......best series of works from dangerous small Kasparoff barn in some time

6  Partywithlarryz   earned a very solid fig 1st out after the claim.....drops back to where he was snatched....gets plenty of pace to close into

5  Dolrdolrbillyall   laid up animal has handle big pace and still won in the past and it looks like he will have to here...seems fit to battle in his return to the race wars

9  Bad Boy   low % rider appears to be given a bone here and he best make the most of it......seems like a great spot for a deep closer

race 7    slightly below average clarity

7  Uffizi   2 for 4 on the Hol. turf course.......5 for 32 everywhere else....last time Blanc rode this horse was last Oct and this horse earned a solid fig that day

2  Cavanal   very very consistent efforts but is a major hang-ball who doesn't like to go by that last horse....thus....9 2nd's

1  Fire Break   subtle move forward in last and takes a small drop......very tough if manages another forward move

5  Pinstrip Kid   good improvement in last which was only his 2nd turf race ever....barn and ride have been hot as a team

race 8    average clarity

11  Where's The Remote   best set of works for a Warren 1ster in a very long time....tight and fast...seemingly wound up like a top

10  Derive   big wake in last for his new barn and gaudy drills since with 1st time blinkers

8  Take A Hard Look   nice awakening with the blinkers removed albeit way back in early Oct........work tab from Baffert says ready

9  Farallone   training sharply for MSW debut....bred to be a nice sprinter

race 9    average clarity

7  Czechers   appreciates the 1 mile distance on the sod and can be loose on the lead in here...reassuring sharp bullet work since her last

5  Cat By The Tale   2nd to to outstanding Tuscan Evening in last two efforts....no one of that caliber in here

8  Medaglia D'Amour   2 for 2 on the lawn....both wins are at today's distance and they were both run chasing the lead which she may also be able to do here

9  April Pride   last was the tune-up to be full go go go today in this Grade 3......won a nice Grade 3 two races back

race 10    average clarity

8  Self Made Man   Mitchell claimed for 40K one year ago and hasn't got much of a return so it's drop city to cut into the loss they have taken so far on the gelding

2  Zappa   down down down the claiming ladder but the Sadler may mean business today because the works sure are good for a declining horse

4  James Prior   sprint tune-up in last in a protected non-claiming race.....consistent horse should be ready for best

1  Skippy Due   good history fresh off of the bench....good history at Hollywood

race 11    average clarity

5  Spinco Bob   hard check early and then ran a bit wide....strong move forward and now we get a positive rider switch

8  Olympic Magic  decent return to the race wars in last and most likely will move forward from the red hot Ellis barn

9  Saccente   both lifetime sprints fit solidly in this spot....long layoff but a small capable barn in the control

6  Del Mar Danger   2 races that fit for today's level...drops and gets the king of Northern California racing in the saddle

2  Falaise Pocket   useful debut and a major factor if moves forward today
