Santa Anita for Thursday 30 December 2010

[private]

Take Note:  Drying out track on opening day was speed favoring.

Looking forward to a dry period forthcoming so we can get a glimpse at the true qualities of the new SA surface.

Also looking forward to regular grass racing and firm turf.

race 1    below average clarity

1  So She Dances    proven runner fresh gives the dirt a try...last fresh run was a solid grass fig and proved to be a key race....bred just fine to run on conventional dirt

3  Star Presence   Baffert is hot and the 1/16 furlong cut back in distance should help her staying power

race 2    average clarity  (off the turf selections are 2, 3, 5 with below average clarity

2  Hey Elvis   likes time between races and gets it.....training sharply......good or yielding turf a plus

6  Achak   all 3 lifetime efforts/figs at 1 mile fit....decent breeding to appreciate a softer sod

3  Mr. Katz   another who lately prefers the 1 mile distance...good history when Talamo is up

race 3    average clarity

6  Misinjennuous   2 for 2 routing on the AW....has speed in a race without much....bred to handle "real dirt"

5  Lucy Got Lucky   1st or 2nd in 19 starts on main track surfaces...Tup invading training has spotted him to win

7  Look To The Sky   decent shot to get a nice stalking trip.....trained by a hot barn over the last 2 months

8 Recess    proven on the "dirt" and training as if she has taken a liking to the new SA surface...should be prominent from the get go in a race that seems set for runners close up

race 4    average clarity

4  Runaway Wildcat    bombed in last 1st ever at a route......back to a 1 turn affair where this colt is proven at this level fig wise.....also trainer is good 3rd out after a layoff....today's scenario

2  Divine Child   best ever was his lone conventional dirt race

6  El Gaucho   seems to appreciate conventional dirt over the synthetic.....red hot rider trainer combination

race 5    average clarity

6  Earnednevergiven   very sharp form....strong 6 furlong drill at Santa Anita 2 weeks ago...and good speed in a race that lacks it.....see ya

5  Cayambe   last 2 route races are very strong....proven on the dirt.....and proven sprinting...should be closing turning for home

4  Dancing In Silks   2009 B C Sprint winner keeps failing on his rebound efforts.......training sharply though and someone like C Gaines can surely find the trump card

1  The Bat Signal   seemingly never sharper and a very positive rider switch and 5 lbs off....conventional dirt is a question mark

race 6    average clarity

7  Vision Of Gold    Ellis may finally be waking up with a win yesterday....filly is sharp and I like the breeding for the dirt

1  Gumption   plenty of speed in this affair can set things up for this mid pack runner....trainer is heating up

5  Queen Martha   showed signs of rating inlast and I think jock would be wise to sit off what potentially can be a lively pace

6  Live And Love  believe has a shot is Bejarano tries to rate this young filly....trainer is very hot especially with Bejarano

race 7    average clarity    (off the turf selections are 5, 4, 3 with average clarity)

3  Late Cuddle   very consistent mare is well proven on turf courses that are softer than firm

5  Talktoomuch   has reeled off two straight wins with the switch in riders to Rosario....bred to handle softer going...good history back in short rest

2  Value Stream   deep closer was compromised by a lack of pace in last...laid off 2 months but training well

race 8    average clarity

8  Truckee Trust   not the best of trips in last......steady improvement fig/effort wise...good shot to be prominent from the get go which has been a good thing so far at SA

1  Miss Addy Kiss   cut back in distance should help staying power....useful 4F recent drill on the SA surface and back quick suggest this one really feels good

3  Elegant   continues to fall off ability wise but gets 5 weeks off to make a rebound and adds blinkers to help focus

2  Mo Cheese    most impressive runs were at Fpx on their dirt surface....15 Sept at Fpx was especially strong

7  She B Super   not much of a 1st start trainer but training solidly and training on the "dirt"
