Santa Anita for Friday 14 Jan 2011
[private]
Best of luck with this decent enough card to start the long weekend of racing
Â
race 1Â Â Â average clarity
4 Toy  crushed foes on the main track at Crc in only race where he saw a fast racing surface...laid up 2 months but the works say ready....good chance to be prominent from the get go
2 Regroup  scenario is....woke up out of nowhere in last run 3 months ago so the barn stopped on him....and has trained him as if they are excited with what they saw...works are much improved and I believe so is this colt
Â
race 2Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
5 Lemon Drop Ridge   exits a very fast heat albeit 7 weeks ago.....new trainer at the helm in Hollendorfer who wins at about 1/3 of the time 1st start under his tutelage
6 L'anch  solid awakening in 2nd lifetime start with 1st time blinkers....works since are quite a bit improved.....likely to move forward again
1 Confectioinist  race lacks early speed and this filly may have the most and has an outstanding gate/speed jock in P Val
Â
race 3Â Â Â average clarity
2 Grand Mischief  red hot rider/trainer combo the last couple of months.....filly takes a logical drop to score......both races run on the AW are better than they look on paperÂ
3 Separate Forest  caught wide with pace in last and rightfully tired....smooth that poor trip out and she will contend for the winners circle
1 All In Love  another bad trip animal in her last hides a decent run way back in August....that race was fresh off of the bench just like today....in fact she constantly seems to fire fresh....good drills to boot
Â
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
1 Recipient  good chance to sit on or close to a reasonable pace and save some ground.....repeat of her last grass run with a good trip will make her very solid here
4 Ex Rachel  5 lifetime races so far.....3 horrid races sprinting...2 good races at a route...2 recent sharp drills and draws the meets leading jock
5 Secret Cove  new trainer in Miller and he has never been hotter for an extended period of time as he is right now...filly is on the right end of the learning curve and is bred fine to handle the sod
Â
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
1 Sweet Consolidator   9 career races so far and the 3 where Alicea rode seemingly are her best...also...appears at her best on conventional dirt
2 Diamond Journey  exits a slow unimpressive heat in latest but the work since and the fact Gomez sticks with the horse indicate a forward move is imminent
3 Homework  decent forward move 2nd after the layoff and will need another 3rd after the layoff to compete for the top prize
Â
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
4 Mutually Benefit  good morning preparation points to a repeat of this horse's solid grass race run 2 races back the last time she saw the sod....stellar rider/trainer combo for a very long time...you might say Proctor and Gomez mutually benefit from each others skills
8 Khendum  good news is this mare can really pop a significant fig on the sod...bad news is she's a long striding sort that often gets caught wide....good chance to win with even a mediocre trip
7 Cry Hallelujah   last looks like the tune-up off of the hiatus from the track to be full throttle for her 1st shot at the lawn......good pedigree to handle it and Walsh wins at a very high percentage with this scenario
1 Tashzara   very solid grass effort albeit 7 weeks ago...work pattern since is a bit sketchy or I would have rated higher
Â
race 7Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
4 Square Eddie  never has been on conventional dirt but the eye popping drills suggest he loves it.....long layoff but the best drills from O'Neill in a very long period of time
2 Moonlark  solid improvement since the blinkers were put on 2 races back....should be prominent from the get go
1 Stacy's Hope  proven fresh and is fresh today.......top effort fits fine....conventional dirt is still a ? mark
Â
race 8Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
7 Miss Bold Topper  heck of a 1st start considering the lack of support at the windows at 55 to 1.....should be tighter today and extra 1/2 furlong can help her late run
9 Devil's Choir  blinkers on today and despite a poor history 1st time blinkers for the trainer this mare just worked a much improved drill just 5 days ago..good chance to get a needed forward move
8 Mo Cheese  seems to appreciate conventional dirt and the cut back in distance should help this mare keep from flattening out in the late stages
6Â Truckee Thrust
12Â Nana Beach
