Santa Anita for Friday 21 Jan 2011

[private]

Seems like a little better than average card today.

Track seemed ever so slightly dull inside yesterday which helped the closers. It would be helpful for today's picks if we got the same surface this afternoon.

race 1 average clarity

2  Dave's Ruler   closer seemingly gets ample pace to fire into....Rosario is super with this horse.....1 win and 3 2nd's in 4 mounts...others have 1 2nd in 6 mounts

1  Good Brother   yet to go a route of ground but found 2 turn sprints to his liking at Fpx....sure seems to get the aforementioned early pace to close into

4  Camicory   capable of stalking and that appears like a wise move here.....might get a nice stalking trip and inherit the lead come stretch time

6  Plantsite   horse is better then he looks on paper and especially on conventional dirt

race 2    slightly above average clarity

1  Flashy Traveler   basically a way better turf horse than appears on paper and just fired a top effort on the AW...good drills since

6  Lisa Lulu  on the improve with every start including a major move in latest...Abrams stock has been firing the last few race cards

5  The Great Atlantic   seems to run best with plenty of time off between races......8 weeks since her last appearance fits this filly well

race 3    average clarity

3  Miss Prosody   needed last (using a win-less jock in layoff last is the big hint) and now we have a much improved work and a major jock switch....should preform much better

8  Lutess   1st 6 career races would be tough for any in here to beat.....fell way off in last and tends to hang....tough to tell if this filly rebounds today or not

4  Annie Lou   decent debut and might move forward.....tough call with only 2 works in the last 40 days since that debut

1  Miss Addy Kiss    had to adjust the saddle at the gate in last...toss that race out...2 back isn't bad and the recent drills are fairly good

race 4    slightly above average clarity

5  Reba Is Tops   90% of her career fits well (including down the hill) figure wise on Top Turf Today...won last up for nw2/62.5K claiming

6  Bella Roja   seems like a good claim by Lewis of a horse on the upswing.....yet to miss the board in 3 turf starts including a fast closing 3rd down the hill in latest

7  Softly Singing   last was an OK 2nd place effort but 6 drills since may have much more wound up for 1st ever on the SA hill turf course

race 5    average clarity

6  Requisition   works weren't much before MSW debut last which tells me the race was greatly needed and the better works since suggest the debut run was beneficial and he can fire much more on today's drop-a-roo

2  Rockin Harbor   seemingly in good form and justed worked a most reassuring strong 3F drill....good chance to see the same animal or more

1  Thunder Of Zen   steadily progressed last Summer/Fall then laid up and came back with a useful run 2 weeks ago....highly likely moves forward today 2nd out after the layoff

7  Wild Gray   works seem good enough to be concerned about this 1st timer especially drawing the services of Rosario

race 6    average clarity

13  Puff Mandate   rather convinced this laid up significant drop down is extremely fit and ready roll off of a prolonged impressive work tab.....barn is stellar in all relevant trainer stat categories...post might hurt

8  Suances De Espana   closer gets a ton of pace to fire into....solid history at the distance and on "real" dirt

7  Lost Prophet   very sharp right now....speed horse has to cope with plenty of other speed but lookout if he does

2  Raebella   excellent 4 wins, 2 2nd's and 1 3rd in 7 races on conventional dirt....good opportunityto sit mid pack behind a wall of speed....should fly in the stretch if Flores can fine a open lane

race 7    slightly below average clarity

4  Dahound   last looks like a sprint turf prep to go go go long in 2nd lifetime run in the good old U S of A

1  Dubai You X Y Z   done nothing wrong in 3 lifetime starts.......Blanc has had a field day of late on the sod and gets a good horse and good 1 mile post to work with

5  Bring It Home    very consistent sort has multiple efforts on the lawn that fit solidly here...not at his very best fresh in the past but he may not need his very best in this spot

9  Oskar Hval   new barn takes over and the works suggest they may have rejuvenated this horse who was quite good in the Big Apple late last Spring

race 8    slightly above average clarity

6  Bathing Beauty   on the improve with every start....fig in last is much better than par...bred to get the mile and gets Gomez who only accepted 2 mounts today

8  Screaming Regal   all 3 lifetime races are strong for today's level...been finding trouble the last couple of races so the trainer smartly puts the blinkers on to help this filly focus

2  Frigid Bridget   bad trips in both lifetime races...bred OK to get a mile....hidden ability

3  Burton's Angel  clunker in last debut fits decently...bred OK for a route of ground

4  Excessively Trick   exactly the same comment as the 3 horse applies here
