Santa Anita for Thursday 27 Jan 2011

Seems like a decent card to start the race week. Starting to feel really good about the new race surface.
race 1 slightly above average clarity
6 Schuylkill Punch all 3 lifetime races make him the one to overcome here...few reasons not to believe he is the same horse
5 Wholelotacongrats 3 of his last 4 drills are impressive for this 1st timer who is bred well to handle a sprint on conventional soil
4 Aqua Fever race 2 back (his mdn debut) at Fpx was quite good....repeat of that effort puts this colt in the hunt here.....barn is solid MSW to mc
race 2 slightly below average clarity
5 Love Theway Youare hasn't missed a beat in the morning since this filly made her MSW debut at a route way back in early Oct.....Cho used a very low % jock that day which leads me to believe the race was used as a workout....believe we are going to see much more today
3 Lunch Time Diva very impressive race...then a solid race....then an OK race 1st going long....could use a rebound
race 3 slightly above average clarity
3 Sporting Art comes off a solid route turf win in last....steps up a notch...a positive sign...good improved recent works...think we have a sharp gelding.....on or near the lead from the get go
5 Hey Elvis another with decent early speed and in good form....good history with top rider Bejarano aboard (3 2 1 0)
1 Celtic New Year last sure looks like the sprint grass tune-up to be at full throttle today dropping some and going a route of ground on the sod
race 4 average clarity
3 Red Door Drive race lacks speed and this horse will be hustled by Pedroza to either grab the lead or sit in a nice striking position...Baffert is an incredible 27 of 44 "place" for the meet...I guess he's happy to see conventional dirt...so far so is Mr Pedroza
5 Kelly Leak talented 3 year old had a dismal year at 4.....has had ample time to mend what is wrong and sure is training as if he is back in good condition and ready fresh off of the bench
1 Mythical Power laid up 4 months but drills suggest he is ready and that Baffert guy is the trainer
race 5 slightly above average clarity
1 Skellytown consistent sort has been especially reliable breaking from the 1 or 2 post in his route races....wide trip in last or could have made it 2 for 2 on the new SA surface
4 Super Harmony soft pace wire to wire run in last.....doubt exerted or beat himself up much in winning the race.....may feel really good and wire once again....P Val is also a plus
7 Troubletimesthree reared badly in last then ran impressively from there......would rate higher if it wasn't for 2 negatives.....breaks poorly often.....and he's a closer in a race seemingly set to favor those close up
9 Self Insured hard trying sort owns 10 second place finishes....needs to learn how to pass that last horse or so
race 6 average clarity
5 Jordanelle mare hasn't been able to handle the rigors of racing....one and done....so my guess is she will be very ready off of the bench and the drop because it may be many months before we see her again...also why not drop to the bottom...doubt the wisest of horses to claim
3 Guilded Reward good spot to own some speed which this filly does....1st ever on conventional dirt but bred to handle it just fine
7 Miss Bold Topper last not so hot....mc debut run 2 back was good....recent strong 4F drill suggests we will see a rebound
6 Once In Awhile last seen in July in a MSW debut run that fits here....barn has been rather cold albeit with limited starters...tough call but dangerous
race 7 average clarity
4 Game On Dude long layoff but this quality runner is training as if he is as stout as ever and the white hot Baffert is the trainer
7 When We Met solid effort/fig in last both in final time and pace.....might move forward and very strong contender if he does
3 El Martillo proven fresh runner is training as if he will live up to his past history of being able to fire fresh.....welcome back to Martin Garcia
5 Arcocodo dangerous fresh speed has some shot at getting away....Guillot has shipped in ready with most of the stock he has run decently so far
race 8 average clarity
6 Social Event toss out last in that it was a pace-less goofy kind of race especially for a closer....layoff race 2 back was solid.....good chance we see a rebound to it....plenty of pace in here
9 Banana Cream Pie yet to miss the board in 5 lifetime races 6 1/2 furlongs or less....another closer with plenty of pace to help his late closing ability
1A Intentional bit too ambitious in last...back to reality at a level she fits well
4 Que Pronto bit of a clunker in last......won race two back showing significant early speed and holding together for the win
3 Hanakkuh o for 2 on AW surfaces....1 for 1 on conventional dirt
