Santa Anita for Saturday 5 March 2011
[private]
What a great sport Thoroughbred racing would be if every race-card could be as brilliant as this Santa Anita Handicap card is!
Â
race 1Â Â Â average clarity
6 Trumpet Player Jay  logical (60/40) drop for this gelding who hasn't seen the winners circle quite some time
1 Justice Reigns  last was a clunker....race 2 back fits and the solid recent works suggest we will see it
2 High Standards  just claimed off of a decent layoff effort....sure appreciates conventional dirt...last was decent and has good shot to move forward 2nd out after the layoff
4 Dana Dynamo  barn is awakening and this laid up runner has a good history running well when fresh like today
Â
race 2Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
2 Chico D'oro  powerful MSW debut pace and final time...few reasons not to believe Sadler can't get the same or more out of this youngster in 2nd lifetime race
6 Dubber  training like another good and ready 1st timer from the Baffert barn....what's new
7 Wilburn  expansive 1st timer from another top barn also looks ready for MSW.....Sadler/Baffert/Asmussen...that's one heck of a trio to count on
Â
race 3Â Â Â average clarity
10 Diamond Touch  after multiple flat in the stretch runs at a route Sadler appears to realize this colt prefers 1 turn races...last was decent but the works since suggest much better will occur today
1 Classy Lion  last was OK...race 2 back is strong for today's lower level....trainer could use a winner
8 Honor Among Us  has flashed ability in 2 lifetime races and now we get a very positive rider change...best ever today likely
12 P R's Orphan  decent improvement in 2nd lifetime race...fits if the trend can continue
Â
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
1 May Day Rose  dueled in suicidal pace in last,,,loves the lead and should get it today...race lacks speed so he can wire if good speed rider Martin Garcia slows things down a little in the early stages
3 Turbulent Descent  nice filly was too wide in last....better trip and she should be a force down the stretch here
Â
race 5Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
7 Reba Is Tops   so much for retirement for this consistent filly....monster recent work hints at possible lifetime best today
8 Unzip Me  hard to be much better better down the SA hill turf course...4 of 5 in the win column...125 lbs today...ouch
9 Broken Dreams  has been closing well versus our top two and maybe ready to upset them off of some very solid rent works
3 Minute Limit  long hiatus from the track but works say ready.....will need a flawless trip to compete for the win
Â
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
9 Mo Cheese  very solid races for this especially his last...great chance to get 1st crack at a suspect leader in the stretch
12 Lutess  last was best ever ever at 6 1/2 furlongs...and she is even better at 6 furlongs...today's distance
11 Imperatriz  impressive work tab for this layoff drop down...very tough if fully ready Â
8 Morning Frost  drops from the sky after being lost in action for 2 2/3 years
Â
race 7Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
3 Exclamation  last would be tough here versus this bunch....only one drill since is a concern...has been consistent
6 King Ledley  barn has been lukewarm and in drop mode...another drop here
10 Galleta Monstruo  consistent late runner also drops to aid in finding the circle of joy
9 Michael The Man  dangerous invaders grass race run 3 back is quite good.....sharp recent drill is reassuring
Â
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
6 Tiz A Budman  useful debut at 27 to 1 and 2 impressive works since....Sadler charge is ready to roll this time at lower oddsÂ
3 Liberal Arts  tough trip in debut and still managed a close 2nd...P Val will be out to make amends
9 Me Salty  good stretch run in MSW on the grass which looks like the leg me tune-up to be full throttle in 2nd lifetime start
5 Cat Talk  another who looks destined to move forward in 2nd lifetime start
Â
race 9Â Â Â average clarity
2 Fluke  very special miler should get a nice ground saving stalking trip behind some suspect speed types
4 Cracortado  consistent gelding is undefeated on the grass....sure looks like he will get enough early pace to put in his late run
8 Times Gone By  race 2 back fits....will need a smooth journey...no margin for error for him at this lofty levelÂ
3 Acclaimation  long layoff.....so a tall task to be up to snuff for a Grade 1....but lookout if he is...owns lots of talent when right
Â
race 10Â Â average clarity
5 Twirling Candy  hand ride win in last says plenty of horse left for today....hard to argue with 6 wins in 7 career starts
1 Soul Candy  race 3 back (1st on the AW) is as good an effort as any in here ....then he sat off a pace-less affair on the AW....toss it out...1st ever on conventional dirt...bred to handle it.....excellent price shot
9 Tweebster  still appears to be in good form....needs a clever mid pace trip...his sire sure is hot
2 Spurrier  multiple bad trips in a row hide his efforts some...bred fairly well to get the 1 1/4 distance
Â
race 11Â Â Â average clarity
5 Excelling  solid grass run in last and now ends up in the Hollendorfer barn...he is very good 1st out when he takes over the reigns of a new horse...can be prominent from the get go
4 Absolutlypositivly  just keeps getting better and better and better and.......
1Â He's A Dance Star
8Â Roaring Times
7Â Short Memo
NOTE: the 14 horse has a shot if he draws into the field from the A.E.
