Santa Anita for Friday 18 March 2011
Â
Decent looking card today to follow up yesterday's which yielded 5 of 8 top choice winners and 2 of 8 2nd choice winners
 [private]
race 1Â Â Â average clarity
5 Courtside Action  bad trip solid move forward in last.....solid here if he can repeat that effort with a smoother journey
4 Lucky Fitz  blinkers back on in last and it sure worked.....both lifetime route races on the main track are par like efforts for today's level......back in very short rest is a ? mark
3 Royal Import  very consistent sort was just claimed by Tim Yakteen...sharp improved work since suggests he has improved this animal who already fit fine at this level
Â
race 2Â Â Â average clarity
6 Tripped The Light  consistent sort recently has learned to rate from off the pace making her much more versatile.....major jockey upgrade to P Val from a low % rider
1 Dextera  sure like the move up in claiming price after winning last on a substantial drop down....capable of rating and would be wise to here
3 Zippin E  best speed in this group has 2 wins and a 3rd (in 3 races) to her credit when loose on a lead at a route.....looks loose in this spot
Â
race 3Â Â Â average clarity
1, 1a ENTRY   both 1/2's of the entry are nicely bred for the sod and training like they are well meant for their debuts into the world of thoroughbred racing
2 Blue Grass Music  sat back too far off a semi-soft pace in MSW debut last and still managed to close down on the leaders....good shot to move forward and hopefully get a better pace scenario today
3 Candys Girl  2 of 4 good grass sprint races last Summer and Fall in Great Britain.......good work series for U S of A debut suggests she is ready...sure fits if she is
Â
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
4 Don Elias M.  very consistent sort and the competition is not.......also, many in this group seemingly have health issues as well
8 Belo Purse  won 1st out after claim cutting back to a sprint after many straight route races......can repeat if handles the fast SA surface as well as handled the "off" SA surface
1 Wild Hombre   dumped his jock in last and then was a vet scr on 4 March....needs a rebound...tough call ?
6 Lord Avalon    laid up over a year and has been a vet scr and a trainer scratch trying to get back to the races...big drop down has many health issues.....toss a coinÂ
Â
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
5 Regally Ready   last 4 of his 5 last races are poerful efforts 2 of which were run on the SA hill......few reasons not to believe he has stayed in good form
4 Dilemma  not sure what occurred in last which was a major clunker but training as though a rebound is likely....race 2 back (on the hill) fits
2 Daytona been absent 1 1/2 years but is extremely talented......might be a tune-up but then again might not be....hard to tell
1 Gallant Son  barn is stout 3rd after the layoff and this Graded Stakes winner seems primed for best....should fly late if he gets ample place to close into
Â
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
6 Clubhouse Rules  simply put....1 for 1 sprinting with the blinkers on and the fig fits solidly here
4 Diamond Journey  might by a good claim by Knapp.....this filly just keeps getting better and better and better
1 Gladitrix  ran well fresh back in early Jan. and is fresh once again today
Â
race 7Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
4 Drink At Buster's  seemingly every horse has a shot in this wide open affair but this colt is on the right end of the learning curve...has 2 outstanding recent drills....and mom's tossed 3 turf winners
1 Major Art  excellent set of turf drills has this colt ready to fire a top effort similar to a couple of his races in GB which are quite good
9 Hollywood Heist  shocker 1st at a route in last....big number.....bred OK for the turf.....repeat of last on the switch to the turf and he will be very tough
8 Akkadian  deep closer should come flying late if he gets any pace at all up front
Â
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
8 Isthmus  blinkers on and the recent bullet drill suggests the equipment change is working.....sure looks ready 1st run in a maiden claimer
6 Answer To Abby  two consecutive solid races in a row.......can we get a 3rd from a low percentage trainer ?
10 Trastevere   1ster owns a work tab that says ready and draws G Gomez....especially like the last work run just 6 days ago....sharp when it counts
2 Our Senior Moments  Sise barn is hot and he wins at a good clip with 2nd time starters....may not have appreciated the off track in his maiden debut
4 Onelasttime   I've got the effort from this gelding improving 7 or 8 lengths in his 2nd start.....same improvement today and he fits well....recent works suggest we may get it
