Santa Anita for Thursday 24 March 2011

[private]

Rain looks as if it may hold off. Don't have a clue if the races will remain on the turf or not but all three look OK selection wise on the grass or the dirt. Slop might be a different story.

race 1    slightly above average clarity

1  Musical Miracle   Solis is usually in full go mode for these early 2 furlong infant affairs and appears to have fast filly and a top gate jock in Pedroza

5  Sea Of Joy   has flashed some quickness in her morning works.......M Stute doesn't win much but he is more then capable when it comes to cranking a young horse up to fly early and this folks is only an 2 furlong affair

7  Oh Righty   another Solis charge that hasn't shown as much in the morning as his 1 horse but he gets one of the best gate jocks in history to ride and if the track favors the outside at all.....lookout

race 2    slightly below average clarity

1  Full On   wide trip in last and the race was most likely necessary anyway......should be "full on" 2nd out after the layoff....last win came 3 races back earning a strong fig starting from the 1 post in a 5 1/2 furlong race......hmmmmm

5  Purse Lover   on the improve with each start on the SA surface......4th try over it may be the charm......Carava has had a nice meeting

2  Stand Tall   seems to be on the rebound and it seems significant that Mollica bothers to ship south for a 8K claimer as there are plenty of short field cheap races to enter at GG

race 3    average clarity   (if off the turf the selections are 10-1-5-2)

5  Last Sting   very strong rally from far back on the grass at GP in mc debut.....that race was for 40K so 50K sure seems like a great spot for her 2nd lifetime start.....1st time Sadler is a plus especially considering a low percentage trainer had her at GP

10  Lemon Drop Ridge   trainer is quite a bit more dangerous 2nd after the claim and the recent works are very solid hinting Mulhall will live up to her history

9  Nana Beach   great spot for this filly to be able to drop out of MSW into a 50K maiden turf claimer which is a rare race to be carded in S Cal

1  One Bad Dreamer   will need to move forward going long on the turf after 3 races on the dirt that were average at best......grass breeding is decent and Mitchell has a solid history sending horses long for the 1st time

race 4    average clarity

6  Meadow Lake Queen   appears to be a totally new/better animal on conventional dirt....repeat of last can handle this step up in class

4  Judge Joan   lone lifetime win was earned the only time she didn't need a lot of time between starts....that's the case today

1  Roman Charity   lifetime best was lone race on the SA dirt surface....just worked 5 furlongs Tuesday in the slop which implies major league intent to be at full throttle today....definitely as talented as anybody in this field but does hang in the stretch

race 5    average clarity  (if off the turf the selections are 5-9-8-11)

9  Extra Fifty    strong race (bat trip) in a key field last Summer in MSW...then...sprint tune-up in last.....full throttle today

4  Unex Dali   well proven fits at this level on the grass.....sharp recent 6 furlong drill....trainer could use a win

6  Parable   strong 1 mile grass races.....1 mile today

2  Robbie's War   on the improve with every start....sharp work series for today's race suggest the trend can continue

race 6    average clarity

6  All The Love   nice forward move in winning last......good shot at getting a nice stalking position behind suspect front runners

2  Onefunsonofagun   mare is 2 for 2 on conventional dirt and the solid work series she displays suggests she is ready to roll after an extended vacation from the track

5  Miss Peanut   1 win 1 2nd 1 3rd on "real dirt".......those races were with very low % riders aboard....P Val is up today

race 7    average clarity  (if off the turf the selections are 3-6-5)

2  Talktoomuch   4 wins....1 2nd....1 3rd in last 6 grass races....race 3 back on "good" turf (which we may have today) is a strong effort fig wise on Top Turf Today

6  Startjumpin Marnie   never better and continues to train as if she is blossoming into a very nice runner

5  Summers Peace    shipper is the speed of this affair and if the turf course which should have some give to it plays to her liking she is a wire to wire threat with G Gomez aboard

race 8    average clarity

3  Bayona   nicely bred 1st timer has an extremely strong series of works for this mc level...seems very ready to roll at 1st asking

1  Annie Lou   exits a very key race.....shortening up 1/2 furlong looks like a positive as she has been flattening out late at 6 1/2F

2  Pet Me Pet Me   broodmare has thrown 7 winners out of 7 foals......works are good enough to possibly have this filly ready for her debut into the world of thoroughbred racing

6  Nip Of Gold   shuffled back in last hides somewhat....big 4F bullet drill since...maybe poised for a necessary forward move

8  Rags For Ben   format says I need 5 selections in the last race because of the super high five...here it is
