Santa Anita for Friday 25 March 2011

[private]

Rained last night and early this morning. Not sure if they will be on or off the turf. Picks are OK with "average clarity" if they are moved to the main track. Track has been fair the last few cards and I hope it stays that way with the rain.

race 1    average clarity  (if off the turf the selections are 5-4-3)

5  Great Passion   love the drills since her most likely needed MSW debut....outstanding turf sprint pedigree

2  Tashara   strong grass figs not to have graduated.....unusually a true sign of an animal not understanding what winning is about....hanging tendencies

3  Mutually Benefit   good recent route turf races and now has put some more speed into this gal in the morning in preparation of her 1st in a turf sprint...Proctor could use a win

race 2    average clarity

5  Akeela   lone route race 3 back was a decent 2nd at GG......so that makes me believe the 2 recent sprint races were nothing more then conditioners for today's endeavor going long

2  Sunny Peace   needs time between starts and gets it.....Knapp barn is been somewhat hot

3  Twodollarstowin   not much of a conventional dirt horse but only true closer in the field is a nice plus

race 3    average clarity  (if off the turf the selections are 6-1-4)

6  Mazarron   on good form and drops to score....only race on the sod fits well at today's level of racing

5  Dancing At Dark   wide trip in last hides his 1st ever run on the grass.....very good work series from Sadler says all business today

1  Winning Desire   has faced some nice competition in quite a few of his races....bred fine to handle the turf and ran well at Fpx in a two turn 7F affair...doubt a 2 turn mile will be a hindrance

race 4    average clarity

1  Balboa Bay   shuffled back early and then showed good life from there in his 2nd lifetime start and 1st run on the dirt....trainer starts few but they are usually ready to roll

3  Afleet Cowboy   tossed a clunker in last but previous was a very very bad trip race where he only got beat by 4 off of a long layoff....rebound today with a good trip and wins it

4  Preferred Behavior   showing competitiveness in all 4 lifetime races....needs to move forward and his kind often do with their competitive make-up

race 5    average clarity

7  Requisition   on the right end of the learning curve...barn is red hot...works since last are encouraging

2  Bronster  last looks like the tune-up in a non-claiming event to be full throttle today in his 2nd outing after the layoff

3  Dime   sprints/blinkers have yielded 1 win, 2 2nds, and a 3rd in 4 races....good recent drills is reassuring

6  Sahara Sky  Hollendorfer wins at a 30% clip 1st time in his barn and that stat is with a couple hundred races.....won for fun in the mud in only start so an off track might be a plus

race 6    average clarity

1  ENTRY   both 1/2's of the entry have a shot with the 1a seemingly the stronger 1/2 of the entry

2  Toscanova   decent 1st long in last and is bred to appreciate route racing.....recent speed works hint that this filly once again will try to go wire to wire....should be more fit today 2nd at a route

6  Zee Chris   sprints aren't bad and drops a small notch for 1st ever at a route

race 7    slightly below average clarity

7  Initial Impression   has run well versus some stout fields....excellent work series says ready fresh off of the bench

8  River Glow   broke slow and rushed and still managed to win which very few ever do with such a trip....steps up...good sign feels good....shot with clean break today

4  Hopeful Union   nice sprinter and Ellis loves to strike 3rd after the layoff...also like the turf to dirt angle for this filly

9  Royal Tiger   like this one cutting back 1 furlong and sure like the recent drills....race doesn't have a lot of speed so this one should be prominent from the get go and P Val is up

race 8    average clarity

5  What A Rush   broke badly then showed life in lone race run last Summer.......best set of layoff drills for Avila in quite awhile....ready to roll fresh

3  Mr. Sierra   excellent speed here...wire to wire attempt with Gomez as the pilot

4  Liberal Arts   horrid trip in debut and dueled on a bad rail in 2nd lifetime start (no chance) at 7 to 5...lookout if luck changes today

8  Denny The Great      blinkers off and Hess is dangerous with such an equipment change...works are good and supports the idea that blinks off are going to help

10  Jack Reacher   flashed good speed in last and since Spawr has put endurance into him with some 6 furlong works....should last longer today
