Santa Anita for Sunday 17 April 2011

[private]

Good luck today and see you at the Hollywood Spring/Summer meet which is my strongest since I started doing this.

race 1    slightly below average clarity

4  Achak   finally placed back on the SA hill turf course where his grass record is the strongest....also sharpest work in over 3 months just turned in

1  Lease Of Life    declining individual my appreciated turning back to a sprint....handle the hill well in both starts on it

5  Galleta Monstruo   very strong in the late stages on the hill....will need more pace than anticipated for his best

3  Gallant Gent   chance to get a decent mid back position behind 2 or 3 suspect speed types

race 2    average clarity

5  Hameildaeme   whole career is par or better on the turf on The Racing Digest's Top Turf Today (soon to be sold on our website and nowhere else)....back to P Val who is 1 for 1 on this hard trying sort

6  Prytania   logical drop to awaken and back to Rosario who owns the last victory for this horse....toss out last doubt liked the "good" grass course

1  Rollerskates   rounding into form and Bejarano sticks with the mare....needs to overcome tendency to hang in the stretch when it counts the most

race 3    average clarity

4  Tokubetsu   toss out last which was a no pace whatsoever affair.....race 2 back is stellar.....believe Baffert will get that effort out of this colt today

2  Jack Reacher   improving with each and every start.....and now the works are also improved....best ever likely today

5  Meadow Road  beaten by 11 in last but exits one of the fastest and impressive MSW affairs ever....best I ever saw was Meadowlake's 22 length debut win which was run in Chicago-land

race 4    slightly below average clarity

4  Caffeine High    overcame a bad trip in mc debut to win at 1st asking...claimed by a good trainer in Ellis.....training smartly for 1st ever on the sod

6  Requisition   has fired 3 straight on the main track that fit fine if he can duplicate any of those effort in his 1st ever on the lawn

8  Palio Prince   flashed strong pace in lone grass try which was at a route......race 2 back on the main showed he can sprint...interesting play 1st evr sprinting on the grass

3  Big Bad Boo   back to Bejarano and back to "firm" turf

race 5    average clarity

5  Greenspan   proven fresh and sure looks like the abbreviated 5F sprint distance is what he wants/needs

6  Smokin Bomb   also fits the 5F distance well....significant rider upgrade

9  Cabo San Lucas   positive rider switch for this speedball....last not so hot but may rebound to his solid effort 2 back

8  Gifted Student   another who runs best at this shortened sprints

race 6    slightly above average clarity

3  One Nation    both turf races are solid efforts at this lower level,,,,good chance to be prominent from the get go

1  Rightful Image   decent 1st ever at a route on the sod.....very positive rider switch especially considering the turf

6  Reality Ride   highly competitive sort in all 4 lifetime races......good turf pedigree......top jock knows the horse well

2  Seeking Solace   decent 3rd in MSW grass affair in last......drop and 2nd out after the claim for Ellis should make him tougher today

race 7    average clarity

6  Fine And Rare   all three efforts on the SA surface fit fine for this level.....trainer has quietly had a good SA meeting

5  Nuclear Missile   decent debut versus better in a MSW affair.....trainer is 10 times more dangerous with 2nd time starters especially those that drop

10  Faithful Secret   bad trip in mc debut which was run in early Sept.....good work tab suggests he's returning ready to roll

7  Detective Poirot   bred to be a good sprinter and his works seem good enough to be ready for his debut into the world of thoroughbred racing

race 8    slightly below average clarity

4  Honour Family   earned a very stout fig 2 back his last turf race and it was well supported by the winner (Camp Victory) who came back to win and then yesterday ran 2nd by a nose in a grade 3...1st ever on the hill so let's keep our fingers crossed he likes because he is the highest morning line by far in the field...30 to 1 yikes!

5  Patriotic Soldier   trainer is the hottest he's been in some time and this gelding seems to run his best fresh....both lifetime turf races were at 5 furlongs and he closed fast looking like he sure would have appreciated 1 1/2 furlongs more

3  El Vino   sure has improved since gelded a couple of races back....good pedigree for the turf....used to be Zenyatta's work-mate

7  Vaundell   needed last and now gets what he wanted in the 1st place, a run down the hill.....lone turf effort is solid

race 9    average clarity

7  Streets Of Heaven   love his consistency.....7 furlongs appears to suit this gelding perfectly....claim back by Pender who got a couple of good runs out of this animal in the Winter

8  Concerto's Thunder   very sharp since switched to the dirt and added the the blinkers

9  Brady Blus Eyes   1 for 1 on conventional fast dirt.....toss out last 2 run on sloppy tracks

1  Belo Purse   seems to respond best to Rosario.....gets enough speed to be closing late

race 10    average clarity

3  Dahoud   has developed into a very nice runner for Hollendorfer and gets in nice and light with the meets top rider

2  Hamish Hy   very consistent Stakes horse on the turf....would have been top pick if I wasn't a little concerned about him getting an extra 1/4 mile

10  Juniper Pass   last 2 of 3 races are very solid runs....may not have liked the good turf 2 races back

7  Romp   extended marathon is right up his alley.....runs all day long and gets in light

9  Falcon Rock    good marathon animal when right....needs a rebound of sorts today
