Hollywood for Thursday 16 June 2011
A reminder that I will be handicapping for a fund raiser at Arlington Park tomorrow so I will post those selections (2 for the price of 1)along with Hollywood's Friday. 1st post at AP is 3 pm central. Last year we got quite lucky and had 7 of 9 top choice winners. The previous year was quite good as well.Â
Decent card today may keep us on the roll we have been on of late.

Â
Â
race 1Â Â Â average clarity
4 Chris's Contender  repeat of her maiden debut last with a cleaner trip or a move forward with the same (loss of about 4 lengths) journey can take this
6 Cali Gal  impressive run in mc debut considering the lack of conditioning before the race and the 53 to 1 odds.......blinkers on and a fitter animal and we may see quite a bit more today
1 Kvell  good forward move in 2nd lifetime endeavor and a nice aggressive 4 work series since....poised for another forward move
Â
race 2Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
2 Warrens Summergold  claimed by Mullins 4 back.....3 decent races since but no wins....drops to get one
1 Silver Stetson Man  overdo drop for this gelding who has only 1 win in 2 years.....might own the best early speed in this affair and dominate from the get go
6 Blame The Jockey  Glass trainee tried a route in last and the Texas bred predictably disliked it....freshened up over the last 6 weeks with some impressive drills as if Glass may have the trump card for this gelding ...efforts last summer at Emd fit
Â
race 3Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
1 Tiz Golden  faced better in both lifetime starts.....laid up a year but training as if all systems are go for this Ellis charge who is racing 1st time as a gelding  (1A is a decent toss in and has some shot as well)
5 Meadow Road  consistent sort was just claimed by O'Neill....owns decent speed versus these....would have been top pick if it wasn't for his tendency to flatten out some at 6F and he races at 6 1/2F today
3 Tommy D' Horsey  plenty of foundation for this Canani 1ster...the most 6F drills I can recall for a 1st timer from him in many a moon...also shows some speed in his shorter works.....sure seems ready
Â
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
5 Screaming Regal  good history on the Hollywood synthetic....appears to appreciate route races....away for 8 weeks but hasn't missed a beat in the morning
1 Meltarib  on the improve with every start....1st ever on the Aw but she ran just fine on the "dirt" and the turf so I doubt the new surface will be a problem...trainer is good 2nd time long and 2nd after the layoff...2 of the more relevant stats in this spotÂ
6 Diamond Journey  Mitchell has been winning at a gaudy rate so any recent claim he makes is dangerous.....he will need this filly to move forward anddo it 1st time ever running a route of ground
Â
race 5Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
2 Pico Pico  if you toss out the last 2 races with the blinkers on and look at his races with them off he sure looks good here.....blinkers off today
1 Atticus Pomponius  seems to appreciate Hollywood surface the most...but more importantly this gelding's last looks like a gimme to leg up and drop and go go go today
4 Brass Plate  improving race by race (slowly but steadily).....seemingly needs lifetime best today but we may get itÂ
3 The Hunt Is On  figs/efforts for whole career are solid but the ultimate hanger with 11 2nd's and 1 win in 26 starts
Â
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
5 Dave's Revenge  toss out last...handler was in the way at the start so a non-starter was declared...previous race acted up badly and still fired a strong bad trip race....bit of a rogue and a poor starter but at 20K she maybe able to overcome her adventuresome races and still win
6 Church Avenue  good history when Flores rides....should get good position on or near the lead in what looks like a reasonably paced race
1 Tripped The Light  good history on the Hollywood AW.......recent drills are better then before......2nd out after the claim is usually a good thing for Jeff Mullins
Â
race 7Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
6 Liberal Arts  gave the turf a whirl in last with little success.....sharp recent tightly spaced work series should have ready for his return to the AW where he fired a strong race 2 back
3 L. A. Weekend  dueled in brutal pace in his MSW debut last and still held on for the win....bullet work since....decent shot to wire
5 Bertran Hill  improved speed and final time 1st after the claim in last for Cerin....bit concerned about this one's ability to run back to back strong races....but...new trainer may be able to get the job done
Â
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
2 Warren's Today  solid 1st ever on the turf in 2nd lifetime start......good post and the right to show even more today 2nd out after the layoff
1 Butterfly Beach  par like adjusted for trouble fig/effort in MSW debut last.....good distance and turf pedigree....trainer has been on a roll for an extended period on time
5 On Your Mark  lone grass race in 3 lifetime starts is a race that fits fine here......back to the sod today after another dull race on the main track
10 Tiz Zoe  solid late kicks in 2 lifetime races both on the turf.....extra 1/16 and the rails down (closers have fared rather well with the rails down at a route) should enhance her chances
9 Preshow  off 3 months but training well enough to possibly be ready for 1st ever on the sod....decent turf pedigree
6 Cookinthisorthat   recent 7 furlong drill maybe for increasing her endurance......and she needs better staying power to get a 1 1/16.....would have rated higher if this race was 1 mile
