Del Mar for Wednesday 10 August 2011

[private]

Needless to say we will be sticking with our "Longshot Possibilities" that we started 4 weeks ago. After 2 of our longshot picks scratched we so far have given out 12 longshots and 2 have won. Hidden Romance paying $138.80 to win and Benny's Benchmark paying $89.40 to win. Ironically we don't have one today mostly because of the shorter fields. My guess is we will be able to find a bomber to consider in about 1/2 to 2/3rd's of the race cards. Card seems OK. Good luck as always. I do love Del Mar, but I think you all ready know that.

race 1    slightly below average clarity

1  Sporting Act   sure seems ready off a prolonged series of tightly spaced wind me up drills......believe Mitchell wouldn't have placed this horse so low if this was a tune-up

4  Fire Break    seems like a good claim of a very consistent runner........four of seven at today's distance on the sod

2  Waltzing With Blue    in good form........just needs enough pace so his strong late run from far back can get up in time....small field should help him not go too wide on turn 2

race 2    slightly above average clarity

1  Sheza Great Friend   both lifetime races are decent and fit fine at this lower level......very strong recent bullet gate drill....believe fires best ever today

4  Silver Street   good debut....drops a small notch.....training best to date....another I expect will improve today

8  Chilling Command   useful debut and most likely will move forward in 2nd lifetime start.....race lacks speed and she has a touch of it

3  Purple Starduster   new apprentice on the S Cal scene  has decent credentials and might have a 1st timer who is ready to roll

race 3    average clarity

5  Savan' Brianne   laid up highly competitive runner is placed to win and he sure knows how to win....4 of 6 lifetime

1  Church Avenue   impressive strong win 1st time in the Pederson barn.....drops a notch and why not with the nice purse money being offered for a 25K claimer

4  Judge Joan    toss out last.....acted up in the gate....not happy.....Bejarano wants the mount back.....good shot to show much more 2nd out after the claim by O'Neill

3  Soul Custody   just claimed by Sadler and he places this filly not only lower but at distance where she is 3 out of 7.....she's 1 of 12 at other distances....might fit here

race 4    slightly above average clarity

2  Lt. Hopeful   awfully nice animal put up for $62.5K but the works suggest he's doing well and if he is he stands out here

4  Square Deal   laid up proven 5F turf sprinter is training as if he is ready to roll for his return to the race wars....last 2 wins are with today's jock aboard

1  Cherokee Heaven   solid deep closer is not running his favorite distance......will need a strong pace to get up in time at 5 furlongs

race 5    below average clarity

5  Big Tsimmis   tepid top choice in a difficult race to decipher with 5 horses coming off of claims and seemingly everyone is in the hunt.......but still a nice morning line on our top pick who owns 2 solid sprints out of 3 lifetime sprints that fit well for today's level

8  Peaceful Town   dirt races in the Midwest fit for a 32% trainer.......need the same effort for Sadler (20%) on the synthetic where she is unproven.....working like this is a go as opposed to a tune-up

6  Lily Amore   strong effort in last on the step up in claiming is somewhat hidden...steps up again....same effort/energy with a smooth trip fits fine

9  Michailasheartlite   solid late stretch drives in her last 4 in a row........just claimed by Hollendorfer who wins his fair share 1st off of a claim

race 6    average clarity

7  Flawless Jewel   big (best ever) in 2nd lifetime start........so 2nd after the layoff sure looks like a good thing here....the old gimme/go.....he needed the race.....was a tune-up......just a little short.......etc. etc.

8  Born Lucky   good 1st ever on the sod in last and just drilled a 4F bullet.....sharp....all set to show even more and with the sharp riding Gomez up

6  Valeria   MSW debut 2 races back (her lone grass race) is better thean it appears on paper....bred fine t handle a route....Shirreffs is very dangerous 2nd time turf

1  Blue Grass Music   just claimed by Sadler and she is working like a different vastly improved horse......and Salder moves up from m30K to MSW.........hmmmm....might have the missing trump card for this filly

race 7    slightly above average clarity

3  Bench Points   very solid consisnt animal in one turn affairs....when last seen at Dmr.....last Sept.....this gelding broke slow and got caught too wide and still won....ran his eyeballs out.....good sprinting at all the tracks he's seen but Dmr might be his best surface

4  Chiloquin   hard trying consistent sort seems very sharp right now......good reliable small outfit in control of the horse

7  Thirtyfirststreet   super record when you look at this one's career in non Graded races.......major factor if he keeps to his past history

8  Luckarack   another Sadler claim and he will have to get the best ever out of colt......didn't come cheap at 62K so he must have really liked something about this 3 year old

race 8    average clarity

6  A Toe By Three   both lifetime starts with a reasonable trip would win at this given level most of the time

4  Observance   decent forward move in 2nd lifetime race and will need the trend to continue

5  Teasing Bernie   1st timer is training as if she is ready to roll.....O'Neill is awakening of late

10  Petak Mountain   works for this 1st timer weren't anything special until her last 2 which are quite good......feeling best now when it counts the most....Proctor is off to hot start at Dmr

9  Tale Be Told   rebounded in last to her debut effort....now needs to move forward a little to her lifetime best

7  He's A Bandit   OK debut 8 weeks ago........has hit the track regularly in the mornings since......needs better and may have had enough work/time to be better
