Del Mar for Sunday 21 August 2011
[private]
Just a reminder we will be covering 2 or 3 days of the short Fpx meeting. I will let you know those days next week. I love thoroughbred racing and you know I like to handicap but I also like down time where I hike, bike, inline skate and bang the tennis ball around and give my mind a rest. Any tennis (A/B level or better) or avid inline skaters out there? We do have 2 tennis pro's and 1 golf pro as customers that I know of. Both professions are notorious for having horse players.
Â
race 1Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
4 Candy And Thunder  nice forward move in 2nd lifetime start and it is somewhat hidden.......smooth trip can win this
1 Sister Moon  Sadler has been a roll with his 1st timers and has a shot getting to the winners circle 3 days in a row with a debut runner
6 Lady Fairbanks  like the 1 horse ran much better in 2nd lifetime start......top 3 are solid but difficult to split
race 2Â Â Â below average clarity
4 Mr. Instigator  very difficult race to decipher but it looks set for a closer like this guy who if he is ready off of the prolonged layoff he should fit at this level
6 Mack's Golden Bullet  bad spot for a speed horse but last looks like a grass tightener and Bejarano may attempt to get this fellow to rate
8 Polly's Dancer  just claimed and his new conditioner puts Rosario up who owns the only win for this horse
5 Liberal Arts  Sadler just doesn't give good alw horses away this easily.....but......awfully tough here if I am wrong
race 3Â Â Â average clarity
6 Tanda  quality sprinter and seemingly 6 1/2 might be the perfect distance for her........and 1st time Mike Mitchell doesn't hurt either
4 Mildly Offensive  gets in light and this looks like a good spot for speed so blinkers on a fairly quick horse sure seems like good timing here
5 Irish Gypsy  very consistent Baffert sprinter was given a bad trip at Sar and had to cope with an off track....toss it out......back home and just worked a reassuring 3F bullet
2 She's Cheeky  likes the distance......likes Del Mar.....hot trainer.......and gets a positive rider switch
race 4Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
4 Rosehill Dew  wisely scratched out of yesterday's Grade 1.......fits solidly back in an alw affair.....better than par adjusted for trouble figs in last 2
1 Butterfly Beach  nice horse has done everything right on the grass....should be in the hunt from the get go with top jock up
5 Glowing Spirit  top notch BRZ invader is training like she is something special and Avila is solid with overseas invaders
9 Wallstreeter good horse on a tough post but has tactical speed.....needs a good ride from Martin who is better on the main track but still capable on the sod
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
5 Gallatin's Run  last two wins came second out after the layoff (today's scenario) and Mitchell most likely knows this and sets things up for a full go today
8 Dixie Trouper  last sprint 2 back is solid and better than it appears in print....last looks like a route workout to drop an go go go
3 Afleet Deal  claimed repeatedly and seems to fire from every barn....it's O'neill's turn today
6 Patriotic Soldier  not the best trainers off of layoffs but he has had a good meet and this horse's last race back in late June was a bad trip good adjusted for trouble fig
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
1 Halo Dolly  crushing foes in winning 4 in a row and her last on the sod is strong.....trainer shows signs of waking up.....can be in a nice chase position
6 Warren's Jitterbug   this trainer has woken up and has this consistent grass runner training sharply....should be flying late with a great late closing jock in Gomez
5 Catie's Secret  good speed spot and only 1 mile to hold on....also this filly seems rather easy to rate
race 7Â Â Â average clarity
8 Safe World  just claimed by a trainer who could use a win......multiple trouble in last for this filly so much so that getting beat by 7 was as good as you could expect.....Bejarano wants mount back as he knows he screwed up
6 Lucky Sis  looks like possible front runner here and a good speed jock aboard
9 L'enchantresse  squeezed badly in layoff run last....actually most of career fits solidly here but hangs hangs hangs....but as I've said before Rosario is the best I have seen at getting hangers to win
10 Dance Little Angel  claimed....turf tightener......drops.....sure looks "meant" today
race 8Â Â Â slightly above clarity
4 Mr. Make Believe   bad trip in last earning a powerful Top Turf Today fig......Gomez will be out to make amends today
9 Antidote  owns good speed in this spot so he can use that speed to find decent position before turn 1.......runs well 2nd out after a layoff ....that's what we have today
7 Oilisblackgold  nice horse has run only 1 turf race and it was OK but many of her main track races fit so she deserves another shot to live up to her good grass pedigree
1 Renegade Storm  consistent late turf cutter should be a factor late as she usually is....Bejarano knows her well
race 9Â Â Â average clarity
5 Boomtown  needs to stick with races on synthetic surfaces....last 3 on AW are good versus this bunch
13 You Little Devil  earned a solid fig/effort with a bad trip in last......will need a good ride from a tough post
4 Delta Fix   vanned away but didn't look that bad pulling up.........hmmm....don't you just love coping with these kind
7 Warren's Wild Thing  finally gets to run 6F which I think is a good sprint distance for this gelding....also very nice bullet drill at SA one week ago
9Â Pushbackjack
12Â Top Torero
