Santa Anita for Thursday 6 October 2011

[private]

Good looking card for a Thursday at least wagering wise with only one race rated less than average clarity.

race 1    average clarity

5  Admission   blinkers off and the recent works suggest this colt is responding well to the equip. change.....positive rider switch.....race 2 back is quite strong

2  Whipstock   done little wrong in running two second's in 2 lifetime starts.....freshened up and the works suggest he is all set for another solid run....Mandella is quite stout turf to dirt which is today's scenario

6  Coming Thru   was on the right end of the learning curse then fell off some in his last....so wisely Baffert gives him time to regroup.....and the drills say it was a another good move by the master

1  Ghost Ride   2 grass tighteners and solid drills on the SA dirt......trainer is good 1st at a route.....dangerous horse and conditioner

race 2    slightly above average clarity

3  My Boy Luke   jockey fits the horse well....only race back in short rest like today is quite good

2  Dancing Joy   controlling speed in the race and a good speed rider aboard.....lone race on the SA surface was a nice 2nd dueling from the gate and fading the last couple of strides to finish 2nd in a 1 1/16 mile affair

5  The Hunt Is On   positive rider change for this consistent runner who sure likes to hang in the stretch......11 seconds in 23 races on main track surfaces.....yikes

1  Money Included   deep closer drops to lowest level ever and has a useful improved 5/8ths work that suggests a rebound is in order for today

race 3    slightly below average clarity

2  Bella Roja   finally back to a turf sprint where this mare does her best running including her efforts down the majestic Santa Anita turf hill course.....positive rider switch is a plus as well

5  Tenacious Tina   ultra consistent filly (appropriately named) only has  two blemishes on her 10 race record.....(running in her lone route effort and stumbling very badly in a turf sprint)......all the other races she competed solidly

10  Ambitoness   difficult post down the hill (0 for 20 last year) but this filly is running well on the AW and appears to do her best on the grass......sharp trainer and a good hill course rider are capable of overcoming a difficult starting position

6  Hakuchi   overdo race on the grass after 3 races on the AW......record strongly indicates a preference for the sod...should see a more competitive mare today

Possible longshot:  3  Pick And Pray   claimed by Garcia and the works since indicate he may have the trump card for this filly who has never run on the grass but is extremely well bred to handle it

race 4    slightly above average clarity

4  Ello Guv   solid mc debut 5 weeks ago and the drills since on the SA conventional dirt track indicate that a step up in claiming price by O'Neill is a good move

8  Danger Ranger   on the improve with every start....last fig/effort is quite strong for today's level

2  Sabe   broke a little tardy and then rushed some showing solid pace ability.....good sign that Bejarano sticks with this youngster for a 3rd straight race

6  Dangerous Duo   useful gimme at 30 to 1 in mc debut......blinkers on and the works are improved....somewhat likely better will be displayed this afternoon

race 5    average clarity

5  Elusive Schemes   easily does best running on conventional dirt.....trainer is stellar off of 2 or 3 month layoffs.....he claimed this one back and the works sure make it appear as though the time off and the return to his old trainer did this one some good

3  Mr. Saturdaynight   likes new SA dirt surface....likes the distance......and the works for his new conditioner sure are solid

4  North Fork   exits a fast heat 3 works ago that has already produced a next out winner....fits well if he breaks cleanly.....not the best history leaving the gate-a-roo

1  Morganouska   nice improvement 2nd out after the layoff and 1st out after the claim.......works on the SA main track sure suggest this gelding likes his new playground

race 6     average clarity

5  Mucho Bravo   best to date was his lone run on the new SA surface and it was his maiden debut.....strong SA work tab sure makes it appear that this 3 year old is happy to be back on the the SA dirt

7 Panther's Claw   appears to have run into shape in a series of can't be claimed MSW races and now that he is fit he drops to mdn20K to be highly competitive and attempt to score

2  Red Mountain   low % jock but he knows this horse well....last 2 of 3 races fit fairly well in this spot

4  Crestatorre   decent speed.... good post..........1st time blinkers.....looks like a wire attempt 1st time going long

race 7    slightly above average clarity

8  Holladay Road   nice animal has been at his best 3rd out after a layoff.....and that is today's scenario

9  Surplus   on the improve and now gives the turf a whirl....pedigree suggests he should be able to handle it.....works suggest he is as fit as ever

3  Bolinas   has shown good effort in all his lifetime races.....sharp recent 46:1 H work should have on edge

11  Bluegrass Reward   post 10 and 11 went 0 for 30 last Spring but this gelding just improved 1st time for Mitchell (what's new?) and has a smart grass hill rider in Talamo

race 8    average clarity

11  Trando's Thunder   here's mc debut:  broke slow, checked. and blocked in the stretch.....solid series of 3 works since......should be a ton today if of course he gets the trip

8  Sharp Upbeat   very good work series for this 4 year old 1ster especially considering this is the bottom level for maiden claiming......mom is a decent producer

7  Wanted Power   so so efforts run last Spring at a couple of notches higher....returns with blinkers on and the ultimate equipment change.....gelded

13  Bryan Daniel   "real dirt" history is quite good...... 5 starts: 2 2nd's and 3 3rd's

12  Red Drawf   4 lifetime starts.....3 good races on synthetic surfaces after one bad race on SA conventional dirt.......also the works hint he may not be too thrilled to be back on it.....but then again works aren't everything

4  Creston Cowboy   has run in him but he has a tendency to flatten out past 6F....does return to SA where he has should his most ability

Possible longshot:   10 Si Es Verdad   decent improvement in last and it wasn't the best of trips.....doubt wins but capable of getting a slice of the pie
