Santa Anita for Saturday 15 October 2011

[private]

Take note of my turf data being posted for free on The Racing Digest website for a limited time before it will go on sale in the near future.

Track favored the inside and speed the last few days with the high heat in L.A. Much cooler today so things don't have to remain the same.

race 1    slightly above average clarity

7  Stoney Fleece   not the best of trips in 3 lifetime races......blinkers on to help focus and a switch to the sod which he is well bred for (mom has tossed 4 grass winners) should enhance her chances of a cleaner trip

4  Tiz Point   2 solid AW races under his belt and now on to the green stuff which this colt is extremely well bred and likely to fall in love with the change in surfaces

6  Nicos Memory    on the improve with every start........decent grass pedigree......should fit fine here if takes to the sod

5  Loukas   GB invader ran up the track on the "dirt" 2 weeks ago which was no surprise considering he is all turf bred......trainer has had a difficult year....needs to get things rolling

race 2    slightly above average clarity

2  Miss Ambition   improving sort handled the dirt at Fpx well.......good speed in this spot.........seemingly facing softer then his last 2 races

3  Warren's Mad Dawg   on the right end of the learning curve.......can be in the hunt from the get go which has been a plus the few cards at SA

1  Purple Starduster   new trainer (Miller) takes over....he must have really liked this one's off pace win in last because he takes the blinkers off to most likely slow her down in the early stages....seems like a smart move

race 3    average clarity

2  California Heat   almost all of her career fits solidly versus this group......tends to hang but as I have said in the past Rosario is the best I have seen at getting hangers to win

7  Swiss Charm   switch to the grass woke this filly up.......decent shot to sit close up in a race lacking pace......seems very dangerous if Bejarano does urge her early

5  The Grans   invader just worked a solid 5F at Tup last week.......trainer is good off of extended layoffs and decent with shippers....lone turf race at AP was decent

race 4    average clarity

3  Heavy Handed   dueled in 2nd lifetime start and tired late......ran a strong somewhat hidden off pace race in maiden debut......need the effort in his debut....Hess runners have been firing

1  Depth   best ever was at 7F and it was with today's jock aboard......would have been top pick but this gelding has yet to put his nose in front in any of his 8 lifetime races.....hanger?

4  Cheers To Boogie   may have needed last off of the extended layoff.....if so the 4 year old will fit today

7  Salty Robin   Spawr is off to a good start at the SA meeting and sends out a Salt Lake gelding that has improved since switching to the conventional dirt at Fpx....closer does have to overcome a distinct lack of pace setters in the race

race 5    slightly above average clarity

8  Quiet Oasis   earned one heck of a powerful fig on The Racing Digest's Top Turf Today (TTT) last Feb and it was down the hill.....work tab strongly suggests all systems are go off of the long layoff

7  My Untamed Heart   solid 5 furlong grass races at Dmr.......looks to have shot to steal this race down the majestic SA hill turf course....rider/trainer have made for a good combo of late

4  All  On The Table   keeps meeting each challenge tossed at her including beating males in last....breeding for the grass is OK......decent chance to get a nice stalk position which seems like a plus in this affair

3  Real Housewife   better animal on the grass and returns to it.....good history in 6F grass races....I doubt the hill will be a hindrance especially with P Val up who knows it oh so well

race 6    slightly above average clarity

2  Gutshot Straight   goes eye to eye with his competition and doesn't give in and this race seems somewhat set for front runners......reassuring solid recent 4F drill....believe he will chase our 3rd choice

5  Deluxe Bus   extremely consistent 3 year old has won his last 6 of 7 races....just claimed by Hess and he puts Martin up who is 3 for 3 with this highly consistent colt

1  Jim's No Preacher   solid runner at GG on the synthetic.....needs the same effort in 1st ever on the conventional dirt....sure trains well on it....most likely to find the front end

3  Hammock Beach   East coast invader and 1st time in the Jones barn has a so so work tab and may need this layoff run....if not he can contend

race 7    average clarity

4  Crossing The Line    9 year old only has 17 lifetime starts but knows how to win with 10 trips to the winners circle 2 of which were down the SA hill

3  Call Me Honcho   dangerous gelding here if he is ready off of the layoff....has run well versus better

2  High Success   disappointing last so Muhall gave this gelding a re-freshening and the drills (blinkers on) suggest it did him a lot of good

10  Cardiff Giant   in and out sort runs big when he brings his "A game"........? is is it today?

race 8   slightly below  average clarity

9  Lord Avalon   5 wins and 5 2nds in 11 lifetime starts and only blemish had a horrid trip....well proven fresh off of the bench like today

1  Summers At Delmar   likes the somewhat specialty distance of 7F.....like the conventional dirt at SA....positive rider switch to Bejarano

4  Derrick Do   Cerin is good 3rd out after the layoff and he is good turf to dirt......seems set on the drop to lowest level ever....can be on or near the lead from the get go

5  Jaylo Marino   high % trainer ships in off of the claim....AW races at GG fit but he has yet to fire in 3 efforts on conventional dirt??????

race 9    slightly below average clarity

5  Dreamy Kid   fired best ever 1st time running on the sod in last.....better trip and he is as good as any in here if he repeats his effort/energy put forth in his last

7  Lil Bit O'fun   nice runner last Spring has rebounded to that form.....1 1/8th seems like a good fit

13  Midnight Interlude   horse to beat if he had a better post but if 14 or 13 start it will be quite a tall order for Bejarano to get a good trip....still mind you he is our 3rd choice despite plenty to overcome

10  Theresmyeverything   New York bred has done little wrong in 3 lifetime races versus easier on the grass.....lone race around two turns on the sod was a 7 length win at Saratoga.....training sharply for his new trainer Harty

race 10    average clarity

9  Duality    ease drop and go......not exactly blue blood racing......both races at 5 1/2 furlongs are very strong versus these

5  Fire Wise   useful debut on the AW but more importantly this filly is training on the SA surface as if the switch in racing surfaces is a very positive thing

3  Peppy Bolly   love the run this filly showed in a fast heat at Fpx in last....bad breaker so far.....needs a better start so be ready Eswan Flores

6  Teardrops On Fire   1st timer is training up to snuff to be considered ready in his mc debut....trainer is having a good meet

10  Lady Aragorn   drills have vastly improved on SA's dirt surface lately...rather sure better race today

8  Jessakar   speed of the speed puts the blinkers back on....speed has been good with the heat but........a lot cooler forecast for today????
