Santa Anita for Friday 30 December 2011
[private]
Rather happy with the start we have had at Santa Anita so far but today seems rather wide open. Might only take one today. Many of our top selections today have some pricey morning lines.
Much more clarity for both Saturday and Sunday.
race 1Â Â Â below average clarity
8 Warren's Samantha   good drills for the likes of Guitierrez who doesn't usually push his 1st timers too hard
9 Always A Chance   also good drills for this 1ster showing hints of speed and stamina in his work regiment
5 Here Comes Bonnie  wide trip in latest somewhat hides a major move forward.....good works since....good shot for another move in the right direction
4 Call Me Lucy  28 to 1 suggests the MSW debut was the tune-up....showed life with a wide run....drop and go today
race 2Â Â Â below average clarity
3 Where's Henry   owns good early speed in this spot and pedigree that suggests he can handle his 1st route endeavor
2 Fed Biz  big bucks baby ran kind of evenly in his MSW debut........bred top and bottom to appreciate a route of ground
7 Insideondoutside  impressive MSW turf route debut.....sure trains well on the SA dirt especially considering his pedigree screams turf
5 Boat Trip  nice forward move in 2nd lifetime start.......bred just fine to handle his 1st route of ground run.....fired best morning drill to date since his last
race 3Â Â Â average clarity
3 Lord Avalon  win machine at 6 furlongs.....4 wins and 2 2nd's from 7 starts at 6F......late runner seemingly gets the needed heat up front he desires
1 Slam Slew  positive rider change.....hot trainer.....hot works.....can be in it from the get go
2Â Position AÂ Â another who does his best running at 6F.......step up in claiming seems to be a good sign this fellow is doing well for one of America's best claiming trainers in M Mitchell
4 Wall Street Wonder  drops again and Martin gets off so this one's condition sure must be rather fragile.....lead type only will try to hold it together for one more check
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
1 Candy's Jewel  big effort in last 1st ever long.....monster drills since....hot trainer....not much more to say
3 Cloud Hopper  also ran big his 1st ever long and it was somewhat hidden with a wide journey......off 4 months but training up to snuff and proven fresh
8 Treacherous  also quite impressive 1st ever long in latest.....tough post at 1 mile on the dirt but owns tactical speed and gets Gomez.....thank you Gomez for the perfect (and needed) ride he gave our 12 to 1 morning line top choice winner in yesterday's 7th
2 Castaway  solid sprint race 2 back both pace and final time wise......might get the jump on the other speed in here and find himself loose....bred fine to get a mile
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
3 Lofty Ambition  set a brutal pace in last (albeit on the grass) and almost hung on for the win.....OK pedigree to handle the "dirt"....should sit 2nd or 1st in a good ground saving position.....sounds good to me
8 Spirit Seeker  owns some power efforts/figs in route affairs on conventional dirt.....training like he will rebound after a somewhat dull effort out of town
5 Miss Radiance  lone conventional dirt race is easily his best ever.....trainer is solid 1st time at a route.....pedigree is fine to get the added distance
4 Transgression  race 2 back on the SA dirt is easily his best ever and it is hidden by a fast MSW heat and and bad trip......1st long but bred to run all day
race 6Â Â Â below average clarity
11 Cody's Bandit  good history on conventional dirt........best ever that would handle these was lone sprint on conventional dirt.......late runner gets some cheap speed up front to flatter his late kick
1 Emperor Stone  needs to break from a tough post but lookout if he does....owns significant early speed versus these
7 Carnivore  rather sure his layoff last is a gimme for a full throttle drop and go today
10 Lana's Smile  seems best on conventional dirt and fires fresh...fresh today and it seems significant that Rosario accepts a Lewis mount
race 7Â Â Â average clarity
5 Lady Of Sharmrock  ran 1st by a head with a gap of 11 to 3rd in a 12 horse field of turf maidens at CD.....yikes
9 Coup De Coeur  lead type only on the dirt has solid early foot and is bred nicely for the sod....recent drills at Pln are strong......often LTO's on the dirt aren't so one dimensional on the lawn....most often because of no kick back of dirt in their face
3 June Clever  impressive MSW winner on the sod.....big 4F drill since....progression has a good chance to continue in 2nd lifetime start.....Ward will be proud if June fires again
6 Batalha  impressive 1st ever on the sod in last.......training very aggressively since.......awfully nice horse to be a 4th pick
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
2 Mcallister Boys  wide trip in last in 1st ever at a route hides a good forward move....way better starting position today
1 Teancum  another with solid forward move in 1st ever route......should be on or near the lead from the get go......low % rider in general but he does a nice job with route speed types
4 Flying Marine  on the right end of the learning curve and continues to work as if the positive learning progress should continue today
7 I Feel Free  par like sprints last 2 of 3........1st ever at a route with so so pedigree for it
5 Mustache Charlie  Â
6Â Stormy Bob
