Santa Anita for Saturday 7 January 2012
[private]
Selections are for a neutral surface. So much for leaning on a rail bias. Not the best of moves yesterday. Good luck to all!
race 1Â Â Â average clarity
6 Scream Queen  last 2 races are better then par for today's level.....very good stretch run in last.....reassuring recent decent work-out
1 Silver Threat  poor start in mc debut last....also ran wide.......same effort and a smoother trip wins this....but.....1 post at 6 1/2 isn't exactly a good place to start for a horse who broke poorly in her debut into the world of racing
2 Cal Bayers  good awakening in last with the blinkers added......good sign Gomez sticks around.....like our top pick was flying in the stretch
10Â Wild Date
race 2Â Â Â average clarity
6 King Ledley  very solid grass races since the blinkers were put on.......only beaten by 3+ in last versus seemingly significantly better
10 Letsgetitright  just keeps getting better and better and better and now Mitchell takes over the helm
8 Michael The Man  runs well with 6 to 8 weeks off.......bullet work at GG for Lucarelli charge who is doing better at SA than appears in print
5Â Unusual Jazz
race 3Â Â Â average clarity
4 Secret Circle  some kind of special animal so far sprinting.....sure like that Baffert puts him in only a Grade 3 affair and only at the 2 turn distance of 1 mile.....great spot to get his feet wet going long in a somewhat soft spot
3 Hierro  exits a fast heat at CD and he won very easily.....he is also running 1st ever 2 turns but he is bred just fine to handle his new challenge and has top connections
2 Out Of Bounds  trains and runs like a good colt......Harty is dangerous 1st time long especially when he sees fit to step a horse up in class quite a bit
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
8 My Little Morgan  logical/significant drop in condition claiming to snatch a victory for the barn who can use a win or 2 to get jump started
3 Takethemoneyandrun  turf legged up in last......also drops to get back to the circle of joy
4 Chocolate Caliente  very promising horse for Mitchell last Spring.....been in the doldrums.....back to the SA surface might awaken....and might awaken quite a bit
1Â Smokey Lake
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
1 Going For A Spin  needed her last start most likely.....has been facing better in last 2 races.....easier spot here and back to Bejarano who has ridden this filly decently in the past
6 Brown Is Beige  scratched yesterday for this spot runs well with ample time between starts and O'Neill shows patience and gives it to her
9 Bonita Star  has done nothing wrong since Mitchell claimed......1st on the SA hill but started her career in Ireland where many of the courses have hills
8Â Mizzen Donald
race 6Â Â Â above average clarity
4 Consulado  solid MSW debut running 3 wide near the pace and still snatching 2nd money....super drills since.....rather sure same or better occurs this afternoon
5 Congrats Ski  horrendous trip in last......the same race as our top selection.....see ya M Smith.....hello Gomez......good price shot here if new rider can get the trip-a-roo
8 Welter Weight  expensive 1st timer is training brilliantly both at Churchill and Santa Anita for the more then capable Steve Asmussen
3Â Only The Gold
race 7Â Â Â below average clarity
10 La Sombre  hard to argue with 1 win and 5 2nd's in 6 lifetime starts on 3 different surfaces.....I doubt 1st time on the hill will be a problem
3 Bench Beauty  sharp recent drills should have this filly on edge.....lone hill effort was a bad trip/strong effort
8 Meltrarib  improving sort.......V Garcia is very good with this kind.....and....the recent drills suggests he is going to keep the ball rolling
7Â Pleasing Sunrise
NOTE: 13 Miss Becca  fits as well as anyone in here if she draws into the race from the AE's
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
4 Tweebster  blinkers back on sure seems like a good thing.....10 for 11 lifetime on the main track in the money.....and owns 2 wins and 2 2nd's at today's distance....and that Baffert guy trains
6 Tres Borrachos  sure seems to do his best running on conventional dirt even though he can handle multiple surfaces fairly well......should be prominent from the get go
5 Utopian  improving late running grass horse has shown he can travel over the SA dirt quite well popping a near bullet 5/8ths work back in mid Dec....decent shot to get ample pace to close into
7Â Uh Oh Bango
race 9Â Â Â average clarity
3 Ez Effort  works look awfully good.....mom has been a prolific producer of runners for her home-bred connections.....I also liked the last foal this one tossed and she ran big in her debut
9 Candy's Sunrise  O'Neill and company take over this gelding who ran awfully well in her MSW debut which was on the grass....bred just fine to handle the dirt
2 Written Rule  solid work tab....what we want here is the MSW debut effort where this fellow showed exceptionally early pace......fresh and maybe ready for that effort today
13 Three Vases  cold trainer with a good looking laid up individual working up to snuff to be ready fresh off of the bench
6Â Parliamentarian
12Â Storm Caution
