Santa Anita for Thursday 12 April 2012

[private]

Reminder: Only 4 days left to sign up at a discount for

our full card selections at Churchill Downs on Derby day,

Saturday, May 5th.

race 1    average clarity

2  Royal Meridian    nice MSW debut run in early Feb......good work tab since.....and maybe most importantly Canani is much more dangerous with 2nd time starters......also....has decent speed in a race that lacks it

4  Sequoia Warrior   owns only 1 in 4 lifetime starts that warrant being in a SA MSW race........off over a year and shows up in the ever dangerous Baffert barn....prolonged work tab suggests Mr. Baffert has his new runner ready to roll at first asking

1  Octane   worked well before his debut race in December but broke poorly and then showed some life from there.......laid up since but working sharply once again in preparation for his 2nd lifetime start

race 2    average clarity

4  Valkyrie Missile   seems very formidable here if he brings his A game......toss out his latest.......a race at GG where he broke in the air at the start.......good history when entered for 32K or less is solid

1  Itssultryinthecape   must feel real good for Eurton the step this gelding up multiple claiming levels......might have discovered the trump card for this runner because he sure worked his most impressive drill in quite some time

5  Position A   might be poised for his best in awhile...... like the fact he steps up a notch especially with a blistering 4F bullet drill showing.....decent chance to get a nice close up stalk position which is something which this fellow usually responds to

race 3   average clarity

7  Three Cuties   good history back in short rest which is the case today......strong back number down the hill last Oct and it is hidden with a bad trip.......switch to Krigger who has won his last two mounts for the trainer

8  Barbeneau   owns decent early speed in an affair lacking it..........just keeps getting better.........and better.......and better........and.........

2  Elusive Spirit   sure looks loose here and with a good turf speed rider aboard in Joe Talamo

1  Huntington Harbour   decent return to the race wars in last off of a long layoff........fits fine if he makes a logical improvement 2nd out after the extended break in action........Spawr is having a solid meet at Santa Anita

race 4    slightly below average clarity

5  Backwoods Belle   very fast pace in last 2 races........sure looks as if a good speed rider like Pedroza can get loose in this spot........love the last two drills.....a bullet 4F speed work followed up 6 days later by a useful endurance building 6F drill....young filly sure seems meant and ready for Sadler

3  I Sense Your Luck   last 3 races look pretty much the same.....all par like efforts for today's level....might need a little more this afternoon if our top pick runs like I think she will....and we might get more......2nd out after a 2+ month layoff

6  Silent Sue   dangerous sort faced better last year.....not sure if she is ready to roll fresh off the bench but she fits fine if she is

race 5    average clarity

7  Late Night Sky   has been facing much better.........only paid $77K for this colt so why not run for 75K maiden claiming.....race seems as if it was written for this horse

5  Big Man In Black   showed life in MSW debut which was down the SA hill turf course......broke a little slow and ran 3, 4 wide.......good tune-up to get the 1 mile distance on the sod....nice recent 5/8ths drill is reassuring

1  Craqui   useful MSW debut in the slop.....bred OK to handle a mile on the sod.....showed good early speed in his debut so look for him to be prominent early.......trainer has had a sensational meet

9  Tommy's Kid   wide trip in last and sat too far off of it to do much damage.......would have rated higher if he hadn't drawn the outer-most 9 post at 1 mile on the grass.....Krigger will need a clever ride

race 6   average clarity

6  Big Tsimmis   loose in last with a soft pace....sure seems like the kind of easy effort that makes it easy for a horse to be able to come back and repeat.....very solid here if he does

2  Coparcenary   Mario Gutierrez must be on cloud nine after winning the prestigious SA Derby aboard our top pick......not much more to prove he can ride with the big boys........solid fast track record for this runner (4 2 2 0)........won latest despite a wide trip in last

4  Filly Power   shot to grab the lead with the light weight app up and only has to stick around 5 1/2 furlongs..........owns 2 wins and 2 seconds in 4 races at today's distance

3  Flashy Traveler   steps up after a layoff run in last which might have been needed........positive rider change and back quick....does own back numbers last year at SA that fit solidly here......somewhat dangerous

race 7    slightly above average clarity

2  Achilles   never easy to win your MSW debut running a distance grass race but this Drysdale runner did.....and is training sharply since.....more or better today likely

6  Ransom Canyon   2 solid grass races in Florida and a very sharp 5/8ths drill since arriving in sunny California......Proctor is very good with young turf runners

5  Brigand   good chance to be loose on the lead in this spot....1st at a route but is bred just fine to get the 1 mile distance......Martin Garcia will attempt to slow things down to a crawl in order to hold off the strong late runs of our top two selections

race 8    slightly above average clarity

6  Run For Miles   solid move forward (albeit on a very sloppy track) in last....good 5F work since......good speed in a 5F race....and....a good trainer with speed types in Miller.....and light weight apprentice  up who is good out of the gate

2  Mr. Newton   best speed in a 5F race and a bootin and scootin veteran aboard in Atkinson.......best ever with 3 weeks rest and running at today's abbreviated 5F sprint distance....same scenario today

1  Chibita   improved both in final time and pace in 2nd lifetime start.....positive rider change for today's 3rd lifetime start should enhance his chances of another necessary move forward for today's racing affair

7  Alworth   last was better but what we need is his maiden claiming debut run 3 races back when Hendricks was the conditioner

5  Hidden Quest   fairly decent works for this Solis 1ster........good enough to be concerned that he might be ready at 1st asking

Chapito   seemingly his best ever was his last which was his 1st run less than 6F..... a 5 1/2 furlong affair.......needs better and maybe 5F can help him get it
