Santa Anita for Friday 13 April 2012

Arcadia forecast suggests a sloppy track (and off the turf) is likely. And it is Friday the 13th. That might be too much to overcome. I did my best.

race 1    average clarity

2  Jolly Rock   broke a couple of lengths slow and caught a little wide.....decent effort to only lose by 4 1/4 in a fairly fast heat at 5 1/2 furlongs......bred well to get the 1 mile distance.....can sit close if breaks well this time

1  Jaredella   5 consecutive 2nd place finishes.....obviously talented but difficult to select her on top.....ran fine long on the sod so I doubt the distance on the dirt will be a problem

3  Rock And Glory   solid debut on the grass.....followed that up with a trip from you know our top two picks she has a good pedigree to get the 1 mile distance

race 2    above average clarity

2  R Victorious   solid move forward in latest and nice drills since....and has good results on off going in the past.....seems like a big plus if it is "off"

1  Burleys Leap   seems best of the late runners.....she will have her fingers crossed in hopes of a nasty battle up front between our 1st and 3rd picks

3  Musical Grace    full throttle from the get go here......seems like a lead type bullet 4F work exactly 1 week ago.....might be getting sharper

race 3    slightly below average clarity

5  Lemon Hero   solid awakening for a win in last with the blinkers off.......two impressive work-outs since......believe she is feeling awfully good......and owns as much early pace as anyone in the field

1  Sweet Nectar   trainer has cooled off quite a bit lately but he has a fresh horse here 1st out after the claim.....repeat of her mc debut win in last fits here.......more would be icing on the cake

3  One Bad Tester   on the improve with every start.........should be in the hunt for the winner circle here if she improves once again this afternoon

7  Candy And Thunder   1 for 1 on the "dirt" and 0 for 10 on other surfaces........will need top effort or love the slop (if there is slop) to compete here

race 4    slightly above average clarity

5  Tribal Dreams   sharp recent drill for his connections.......both lifetime starts fit well here and his last was in the 5 lbs lighter today than his last race......using the apprentice and entering for 14K

3  Jack O Lyn   1/2 of this gelding's lifetime races fit well versus this field and that includes his latest....1st ever on the slop is an unknown or would have gotten top billing

1  Hadfunlastnight    2 wins and a 2nd when entered at 16K claiming or less.......16K today

race 5    average clarity       ( if off the turf:   4-5-1-9 )

5  The Grans   fairly consistent sort.......1 mile seems like a good fit......shot to get a chase or mid pack close up position in what is likely to be a fairly soft pace up front

4  Shewhomustbeobeyed   cut back in distance of 1/8 seems like a plus......has a shot to get loose once again......good turf speed rider up in Talamo who also happens to be a hot jock the last couple of weeks

1  Wildakceleration   tends to hang owning 5 2nd's in 6 lifetime blinkers on seems like a smart move......1st on the sod but bred fine for it

9  Cee's The Year   bombed in only lifetime  run on the green stuff......but is bred well to handle it......and sharp trainer sees fit to try it again......deserves another shot on it

race 6    slightly above average clarity

3  King's Red Journey   long and dirt are ? marks but the way O'Neill is going you have to trust his ever was only time this colt got to run off of short rest....short rest scenario today

7  Dream Caught   5 of 6 lifetime starts fit fine here and many of those starts are hidden by bad trips

1  Noble Kent   woke up in 2nd lifetime start and maybe more importantly proved he can run in the slop (if of course it is sloppy).......pedigree suggests he should handle the short 2 turn distance of 1 mile

2  Blazing Marino   sat fairly close to a strong pace in last at today's 1 mile distance......might be able to get away or at least close up here

race 7    average clarity       (if off the turf:  5-1-4-3)

4  Bobina   very impressive winning her MSW debut on the grass in a route race.....never an easy the way she finished.....back quick....likely she came out of the race well

2  Risky Art   no support at the windows for a Callaghan GB invader says the race was needed....full throttle today

1  My Selection   broke MSW at 1st asking....what's new for a Baffert 1ster?.....1st on the grass and 1st at a route but bred solidly to handle both

7  Island Paradise   laid up since Nov but this filly has done little wrong in 3 lifetime starts......and the works suggest she is ready to compete off of the 5 month hiatus from the race wars

race 8    slightly below average clarity

8  Salon Blonde    1st timer is training awfully well for a bottom level maiden claimer.....would like her more if this was a longer sprint....better break decently.......right jock for the job in Pedroza

4  Warren's Performer   sharp recent 5/8ths drill strongly hints this filly should rebound today......bit of a dichotomy here......good gate jock in Eswan Flores.....but not the best of gate horses......should be interesting

6  Alpine Breeze   dangerous 1st starter trainer in Jones.......and mom has tossed 4 winners in 4 starters including a couple with very good early speed

2  Lily's Tiz   shot to get the lead here....if sloppy how is speed doing?.....cut back in distance sure looks like a good thing

5  Metaxa

1  Flaming Fiesta
