Santa Anita for Saturday 14 April 2012

Reminder: Only 2 days left to sign up at a discount for

our full card selections at Churchill Downs on Derby day,

Saturday, May 5th. They will be sent to your email on

Friday night, May 4th.

In the late pick 4 (or pick 6) the top pick in the 7th race looks like a good single (albeit low priced) and in the 8th I would recommend going only 2 deep.

race 1    below average clarity

(if off the turf   4- 2-1    below average clarity)

NOTE:  it was very hard to separate numbers 1 thru 5 in this field on the turf or the dirt.....I do not like the 6 horse

3  Showmethemoneyjim   hot barn especially on the grass......cut back in distance from a turf route to turf sprint looks like a good thing here

2  Call Me Jones   just claimed by Mullins off a strong win in the slop.....gelding is bred well for the sod and gets the hot Joe Talamo to ride who is quite good down the SA hill

1  Danger Ranger   wide trip in lone grass race in a turf route....seems to handle the turf just fine...... runs like he prefers to sprint.....sprints today

race 2    average clarity

1  Tough 'n Dangerous   compromised by a bad trip in his mc debut last.......bullet drill since........Talamo will be out to make amends.....will be on or near the lead with a good break in a race lacking speed

4  First Blue Angel    overdo drop out MSW racing.....and the drop is to the very bottom....he can fit fine at today's level

2  Clocker Moment   vastly improved in last.....but it might have been the sloppy track that enhanced his ability....if not......then he fits well today

race 3    slightly above average clarity

2  Private Bounty   seems like a logical drop (no wins in 7 starts since O'Neill claimed) especially for a trainer who is not afraid to lose a horse.....basically his whole career fits solidly here

6  Take No Prisoners   lone lifetime win came running route to sprint......route to sprint this afternoon.......and sharp recent reassuring works

1  Run Candy Run   wake up effort in latest and good aggressive work tab since......rather sure moves forward today.....the ? is how much

race 4    average clarity

1  Blake   sprint races fit fig/effort so pedigree to get a route of ground but very much looks like the controlling speed here

6  Wegner   had already shown that he wants no part of grass his last at GG looks like a grass work out to leg up and come back in very short rest and be full throttle today in a dirt route

3  Go To The Pulpit   late runner has a shot if the 1 horse dislikes route racing or sets a fast early pace

race 5    average clarity

2  Called To Serve   both lifetime dirt races fit fine and his last dirt race was a very bad trip....caught wide on a rail bias day.......decent work regiment and the Eurton has been heating things up lately

3  Seal The Deal   nice race in 2nd lifetime start which was run last out of the layoff looks like a good thing this afternoon

6  Eaton Hall   wire to wire shot here.......will need to be better than his last where he blew a soft paced lead to finish 2nd.....never easy to toss out a Baffert speed type

7  His Royal Highness   good layoff and 1st in the USA run in last.......good drills since.....should see more today...can get a nice chase position

race 6    average clarity

(if off the turf   6-7-3-11   slightly below average clarity)

3  Canuletmedowneasy   both lifetime grass races were solid 2nds because the 2 heats down the SA hill were quite quick for the MSW level

9  Just Tripping   closed in lone lifetime grass race (his MSW debut at 1 mile on the grass) despite a pedestrian pace being set up front.......blinkers on and a blistering 4F gate work bode well for being able to sit close enough in this sprint grass race to have a shot to get there at the wire

6  You Know I Am   nice 2nd stepping up into MSW racing in 1st run off of the claim by Sadler....and he is training sharply since.......turf pedigree seems O.K........Sadler is dynamite usually 2nd out after he claims

1  Chickie Charms   all 3 sprint turf races fit nicely......but........Talamo needs to get this colt to stop flattening out late.....very formidable if he does

Possible Long-shot:   7  Sea To Sky   last dirt sprint race two races back is way better than appears in print....1st on the sod but is bred decently to handle it

race 7    average clarity

2  Pink Lollipops   eased and vanned off in last but is training like all is fine once again.......efforts/ figs sure stand out here.....looks very solid if I am right about her health

6  Melissa Rose   just claimed by Sadler and the drills suggest he might have discovered the trump card for this filly

4  Jinny Jump Up   training well out of town....seems as if Callaghan was sent a fit horse......when last seen in 2010 this filly put in 3 solid lifetime late running races in 3 lifetime starts.....definitely the best of the late runners here if of course she can fire off of such a long break in the action

race 8    slightly above average clarity

(if off the turf   5-6-1   average clarity)

1  Unzip Me   A game with a decent trip should take this race.....B game and it seems like she is beatable by our 2nd choice......shooting to break the 1 million mark in earnings with a win today.....Jones always seems to have this mare ready

5  Mizdirection   outstanding grass sprinter but equal weights with the champ.....will need lifetime lights out

3  Saanneen    laid up since June but finished off her preparatory work with a near bullet 5/8ths work last Saturday.....lifetime best was on turf rated good......should be rated yl or gd today

race 9    average clarity

5  Courageous Cat   broke a little tardy then rushed some in lone career race run last October......showed he has good early speed......been off since and has only 4 works showing but they are quick and this is only a 5F don't need much foundation to get 5F

2  Sweet Juju   useful debut 3 weeks ago.......blinkers on and the works are much improved....and....the trainer has fairly solid history with blinkers on

3  Love My Girl   showed good early foot in lone lifetime race which was run last August at Dmr.......good pedigree to handle conventional dirt......low % trainer but not off of extended layoffs....rather sure ready to roll fresh

4  Glorious Memories   1ster is training well enough to possibly ready in her mc debut

1  J Louie   very good work tab for this 1st timer.....but......the trainer is seldom ready with 1st timers the last few years....still it is a lot easier to get a 1st timer ready at 5F then longer sprint

6  Zoe B   works aren't too bad for this 1ster either......jock is 1 for 1 riding for Kruljac bringing in a long-shot

NOTE:  11 and 12 have some shot if they draw into the field from the AE's
