Hollywood for Thursday 3 May 2012

[private]

Selections for Friday's Santa Anita Card will be posted by 6 a.m Pacific time Friday morning. Saturday's card at Santa Anita will include the Ky Derby and will be posted sometime Friday night.

race 1    average clarity

1  A Toast For You   very solid MSW debut on the Hol AW last June.....pushed out some close to a solid pace and still crushed his foes.....nice tune-up on the real dirt (or didn't appreciate the real dirt)  in layoff last.......bred well to like the sod and.....most horses that run well on the Hol main track handle the grass

4  Call Me Jones   improving youngster just got claimed by Knapp.......1st on the lawn but has a good pedigree for it.......also I like the fact Mullins wanted the grass in last but the race was taken off the turf.....Mullins usually has a good feel for what horse that can handle the sod

5  Declan    speaking of Mullins he just snatched up this gelding at the claiming box and puts him on the grass where he ran fairly well 2 back....most likely will need more today but Mullins has had a great year so far on the turf

race 2    average clarity

4  Lil Miss Macky   13 of the 16 in the money for Talamo/Mitchell combo..........drops to win at 16K and why not......she was put up for 18K to score in lone Hollywood race.....repeat of last with a reasonable trip would be difficult to overcome here

6  Winter Blossom   owns an abundance of early speed maybe too much sometimes for her own good....blinkers off to help slow her down....2 for 3 at Hol and lost about 10L in only loss and was beaten by only 6 3/4L in that race....her maiden debut

3  Real Rockport   track was somewhat dead on the rail this past weekend so as it usually does a dull rail helps the late runners that close in the middle of the track......big shot here if that is the case today for this route horse cutting back to a sprint

race 3    average clarity

2  Power Lilsis    claim back by Morey seems significant here.....3 wins and 1 2nd in the 4 races he had this mare for.......mare is 1 for 1 at the distance

8  R Vicarious Girl   always like the combination of a good 1st out after the claim trainer when he/she claims an ultra-consistent sort like this 8 year old is on main track surfaces rated fast

5  Katy's Kitty   layoff drop down sure is training like she is more than ready and her last win came at Hollywood in a 1 1/16 mile affair

3  Saint Cindy   in decent form and might feel good in the legs coming off of a grass race but tends to hang....not impossible but doubt a winner

race 4    average clarity

3  Potesta   decent debut and a good work regiment since......Mitchell is exceptionally strong with 2nd timers that show promise in their maiden debut

4  Dubai Cyclone    3 year old is bred to run all day.......decent forward move in latest (on the sod) her 2nd lifetime start.....strong 5/8ths drill since.....1st on the AW but bred OK to handle it.....should be finishing well when many others in this field won't be

Perpetua   trainer loves to use sprint- sprint - route to fire strong route efforts.....that is the scenario here for this Kruljac 2nd time starter

6  Ke Kukui   bad trip on the grass in MSW debut back in Oct........then a good effort on the dirt at SA in March....then caught slop and ran poorly......trainer doesn't drop.....not impossible if he improves off of his March race in her 1st ever on an AW surface

race 5    slightly above average clarity

6  Sizzling Gold   strong route turf effort/fig in last and appears better suited for a turf sprint.........trainer has been quite a bit better than his record of 2 for 20 in 2012 would indicate

8  Fifth Ave   trainer has been waking up from the doldrums of late.........somewhat suspicious drop but then again this most likely isn't a tune-up or this filly would have been placed in a non-claiming event......lone win in the USA came off of a layoff

4  Blue Samurai   consistent sort short or long on the grass but sure likes to hang in the stretch....but her 1st win on the grass came in her last....maybe the filly finally figured out what winning is all about.....turf record is  ( 16 1 6 4 )

2  Brown Is Beige   another consistent sort who knows how to win but..........only one dull 3F drill since Taylor claimed on April Fools Day.....not very encouraging but works aren't always everything

race 6    average clarity

7  I Sense Your Luck   good history with 3 weeks off.......trainer/rider have hit the board in 13 of the 16 as a team........note:  not easy to spit top 3 picks

4  Warren's Venedalucy   keeps drooping in claiming price and keeps running better with every start.....why stop dropping now.....trainer and his owner are off to a hot start for the meet

5  One Magical Girl   speed of the speed in this spot and appreciates being on or near the lead.....best ever was last on the AW.....back on the synthetic today

3  Real Dream   late runner has a shot if we get the the same outside / off pace racetrack we got over the weekend

race 7    above average clarity

5  Gem Of Soul   way too wide in last.....did extremely well to only get beat by 2L.......back to Espinoza who won on this horse in her previous race.......sharp recent drills strongly suggest we will see the same effort/energy as her last

2  Secret Cove   par average for the last 3 route turf races this filly has been involved with......should get a nice stalk position behind two lead only speed types in the 3 and 6

3  Let's Go Cheyenne    might be a good time to try and rate or probably will have to deal with a nasty pace trying to put away the 6 horse

1  Plaza De Indias    very low % ( 0% for 2012) trainer gets a nice import from CHI....we shall see

race 8    average clarity

1  Rocket Train    drops precipitously in claiming......obviously fits if his health is still intact.......Mitchell is quite successful in this situation.......cut back to a 7F sprint from a route in maiden claiming is usually a good thing

3  Cheezy Breezy   on the improve with every start......also takes that often successful route to 7F cut back in distance

8  Rude Bobby   yet to get a good trip in 5 lifetime races.......fits fine if his new jockey can get a clean trip out of this gelding.....sharp conditioner in Jones seems like a big plus

7  Cheers To Boogie   owns decent speed in this spot......can be prominent from the get go.......best ever was at Hollywood.....proven at the 7F distance,,,,,fits fine if ready off of the 10 week layoff

14  Have A Cigar     horse sure fits as well as anyone......but draws a far outside (outer-most) post......and.......his new rider is awfully cold....good spot for jock to jump start a comeback of sorts with a clever ride

2  Del Mar Johnny    highly doubt a winner......small slice of the pie only
