Hollywood for Saturday 23 June 2012

Good looking Saturday race card and Sunday is also looking good at first glance. Best of luck as always.

race 1    slightly above average clarity

4  Miles Heir   sure like this horse cutting back to a 7F sprint 1st out after the claim by Belvoir......seemingly in good enough form and runs like he will greatly appreciate a cut back in distance

2  My Man Sumo   2 of this gelding's last 3 starts are solid here......and I like the fact that Ellis doesn't drop this fellow done to 8K.....fairly sure it will be 3 of the last 4 starts solid after today

3  Trumpet Player Jay   seems like he might be able to snatch the front end here and with a good lead rider in the irons...dangerous if he gets the lead with a reasonable pace

race 2    average clarity

7  Tiz A Brite Miss   nice forward move in last with the blinkers taken off......5 1/2 furlongs seems like a good fit

3  Propero   on the improve with every start and owns good early speed for a filly maiden 20K runner......should be prominent and most likely dominate from the get go

8  La Sancho   tossed a clunker in last.......lifetime debut 2 back would put him in the mix here

2  Yaletown   works seem good enough for this McCarthy charge to be a possible factor in her maiden debut

race 3    average clarity

2  Red Defense   Sadler usually gives nothing away at the claiming box so I am a little concerned about this one's health.....but.....if Red Defense fires either of his last 2 races he will be very tough to beat

6  Mandated Bliss   last 3 wins for this horse came when Bejarano was up and he won those races by an average of more than 2 1/2 lengths....he is up today

1  The Whammer   solid forward move in last and obviously his trainer is hoping for another today.......only 2 races at 6F on the grass fit fine......8K to 32K will be quite a feat if he can pull it off

race 4    slightly above average

3  Elusive Jackpot   Baffert 1st timer is ready to roll in her MSW debut.......very impressive 6 furlong drills....doubt she will be short

1  Dress The Part   expensive ($700K) Proctor 1st timer has been able to work every 6 days for ten weeks....seemingly wound up and ready to roll

4  Distracting   another Baffert 1ster training up to snuff and he draws the meets leading anyone on the planet any better these days with MSW first starters than Bob Baffert

2  Dime Piece   both lifetime races are par like efforts for the level......and par is usually a good thing......but I think this Shirreffs runner will need even more today as the potential of the 3 given 1st timers sure seems significant

race 5    average clarity

7  Kumite   done little wrong in 4 lifetime races and I sure like his ability to handle the somewhat specialty distance of 7F....also very sharp 4F drill 5 days ago is most reassuring

8  The Bien's Gift   just snatched at the claiming box by Hess who is quietly having a good Hol meeting........Gomez is a plus and so is the extended sprint distance

4  Soi Phet   lead type only has a shot to get what he needs and with the app up (with his 7 lb weight break) he might stick around a long time coming off a series of route races

3  Marshland   Sadler might have made a bad claim as this gelding's layoff last was poor........but on the other hand he might have needed the race and has a shot here if he did

race 6    slightly below average clarity

5  Gatheratthealter   fired lifetime best in last run 8 weeks ago.......and this gelding seems to run his best the more tome he gets between starts.... the works have never been better....rather sure this Baffert runner can repeat the strong effort he showed back on 28 April

9  Blu Jon   on the right end of the learning curve........would easily be my top pick if this was a two turn affair....should be flying late if he runs his race

6  Guidopanzini   very impressive layoff run in last........same effort fits.......and he will be very formidable if he moves forward

7  Da Ruler   has only been on the synthetic once and it was a stellar effort......and it was going 7F at Hol......only 1/2 more furlong here

race 7    average clarity

8  Not Kidding Around   close to a nasty pace in MSW debut last and still only beaten by 2 lengths.......that effort fits and she will be very tough with a logical forward move.......Talamo has won 3 of his last 5 for Hollendorfer

2  Horsesanddivorces   very solid MSW debut on the synthetic.......good drill since.........1st on the lawn but bred fine for our top pick has the speed to sit close from the get go

10  Tiz A Daisy   tossed a clunker in last but MSW debut was solid.....1st on the sod but Jones is stout first time on the lawn and her pedigree is good for it

5  Angel's Moon   hidden move forward in last......pace pace pace......repeat of last fits......other 3 grass sprints don't.......tough call

Long-shot Possibilities:   7  Gypsy Friday   on the improve with every start and this late runner seemingly should get plenty of heat up front to flatter her late kick   NOTE:   6 t0 1 in the morning seems too low........believe 12 to 1 more like it

race 8    average clarity

6  Potesta   powerful MSW win although it was aided by a somewhat soft pace.......but talk about an easy hand ride late........that easy hand ride and the fact that Mitchell puts her in a Grade 2 suggests she is doing great

4  Eden's Moon   2 for 2 on the lead (0 for 3 without it) and I think she gets it here......very dangerous especially with 1st time Bejarano

1  Willa B Awesome   owns efforts on conventional dirt that are solid here........yet to fire as big on the AW.....but she is working on the Hol AW surface as if that might change today

7  Via Villaggio   has done nothing wrong in 4 lifetime starts on the AW including a 7F Grade 3 win in last......nice tightly spaced 4 work series since her and ready to take on better

race 9    slightly above average clarity

5  Lauren's Lady   takes the usually significant drop out of MSW racing......both lifetime races are solid here......sure looks loose and lonely on the lead.....trainer could use a win

4  Aunt Gert   on the improve with every start....and Canani drops a couple of notches.....and that is a very dangerous thing

2  Secret Genius   cut back in distance of 1/2 furlong looks like a good fit and jock switch is a solid upgrade.....and Knapp is quietly getting the job done of late

10  Kissin In The Dark   improving sort also gets a positive rider change......will need best ever today or she will be running for a small slice of the pie only

8  Royal Marie     Conlon has been doing very well with her limited starters........MSW debut sure looks like a gimme......drop and go today in low rent maiden claimer

11  One Lucky Lady   horse fits decently but must overcome a nasty post and do it with a 3 % jockey on her back
