Del Mar for Sunday 22 July 2012

Big carry-over in the pick 6 today and a difficult card. My guess is it will pay handsomely or get carried over to Wednesday. Best of luck as always.

race 1    average clarity

1  Spring Rocks    trainer is dynamite with 2nd time starters........so the MSW debut at LS sure looks like the gimme to drop and score 1st in at Dmr

3  Valen   1st time for Carava and he sure means business dropping this filly and showing a very strong work tab for her

7  Idontrollonshabbos   Miller is very dangerous with his laid up youngsters especially on the drop down like today......exits a key race albeit way back in December

8  Arizona Wildcat    Hansen 1st timer is working as if meant and ready to roll in his racing debut

race 2    average clarity

3  Quick Wampum     believe this filly is feeling really good coming off a wire to wire win that had a reasonable pace.......and she just worked a much improved drill

1  Always A Chance   done little wrong in 4 lifetime races on the main track.......mid pack runner seemingly gets plenty of pace in this affair to aid her mid to late run

5  Brilliant Melody   looks like a good claim of a 1st timer by O'Neill........horse crushed foes at GG.....very dangerous

7  Queen Mercury   another claimed off of an impressive maiden claiming win.....and Puype gets Bejarano to ride hoping he can make it two straight on the youngster

race 3    average clarity

3  Norvsky   compromised by a lack of pace in latest........lost by a nose to Interaction who ran 2nd in a Grade 1 yesterday......horse seems at his best running in 1 mile or 1 1/16 affairs

5  Leaving New York    very impressive vault forward in last his 1st ever on the sod....solid pace and final time.......needs to avoid dueling with our 3rd pick.......believe will rate if need be

4  Liberian Freighter   needs to avoid the aforementioned duel.....also has chased and won in the past but seemingly is at best on the lead

race 4    below average clarity

5  Stacy's Hope  tepid top pick has been in some solid fields.....best on AW surfaces and might be at best running at 6F

10  Luckarack    been facing better......consistent solid figs on main track surfaces including Dmr

6  Privilaged   improved effort in last and Sadler must think this runner is feeling good to step up in claiming.......1 for 1 in the win column at Dmr

1  Peacenik   3rd time claimed in last 4 races for this runner........ and he keeps doing well at each higher level....Spawr's turn now and he sure has been good 1st out after the claim the last few months

Possible Long-shot:    4  Gnarly Dude   1 for 1 at Dmr.....all cranked up off of a strong work regiment.....seems pointed for today's race

race 5    slightly below average clarity

4  Smokey Lonesome   very solid efforts/figs for today's 40K level at one mile on the turf....good post and good rider....trainer is due to snap out of the doldrums

8  Huntingman    bombed in his USA debut but claimed by Sadler and the works have been stellar under his guidance.....mile grass efforts  in Italy in 2011 fit well here....rather sure this horse rebounds to some degree today

6  Special Kid   just fired best ever on the AW 1st out after the claim by Spawr......and this runner might be better on the turf

7  Seattle Ruler    improved gelding since the blinkers were added 3 races back.......likely to move forward 2nd out after the long layoff

race 6    average clarity

8  Suncadia   useful MSW debut last......shuffled back or much closer at the wire in a 5F turf race.......vastly improved work tab since.....seemingly muscled up and feeling good.....hot trainer/rider combo

2  Wild One    expensive purchase is working great as most of Bob Baffert's do.....pedigree suggests this one might come from off of the pace

9  Beholder   exits a very fast heat where she encountered trip trouble in her MSW debut........improved recent work tab.....more early speed and an overall improved effort is likely

3  Kinz Funky Monkey   decent work tab for this Eurton 1st timer....just bought in March so the connections kind of knew what they were getting

Possible Long-shot:   5  Glo's Spirit    small outfit but they sure have put some impressive speedy drills into this 1st timer at Slr....dangerous price shot if the apprentice can break cleanly from the gate

race 7    average clarity

2  Brigand    1st ever around 2 turns but bred to get the distance and looks loose here....has been facing better

8  Jaycito   bad trip versus better hides this colt's last effort.....basically 4 of his 5 lifetime races on the AW are solid for today nw alw level

9  Shaun Washington   just fired his lifetime best in his 1st ever on the AW.......might still need even more today if either of our top two picks bring their best

4  Oilisbackgold   Dollase barn is firing a on all cylinders......and.....this gelding just popped a vastly improved impressive bullet 5/8ths bullet drill........believe jockey will send here and possible get a ground saving chase or mid pack trip

race 8    average clarity

4  Eden's Moon   both dirt 1 mile races are powerful......1 mile on the grass today.......1st on the sod but bred to handle it and just worked a nice 4F on it

5  Byrama   has fired in all 8 lifetime grass races at 4 different tracks......very capable grass conditioner and the rather hot Gomez is in the irons

8  Indigo River   too hot a pace in last to stick around 1st time at a route......my guess is they take back some today with this filly......Mullins continues to have a great year with his grass horses

3  Killer Graces    only grass race isn't so hot but it was at 1 1/8 and I don't think this filly wants to run that far.......deserves another shot cutting back to 1 mile

race 9    average clarity

4  Scorpion Warrior   caught monsters in both lifetime races which were run last year and only lost by a combined 2 1/4 lengths........work tab suggests he's ready....tough here if he returns the same horse

1  Bernster    solid pace and decent final time in lone lifetime race which was  a MSW affair run last winter.....and Baffert has him all cranked up for the same or more today

9  The Brain    fairly good debut run 3 months ago......might need a little more today and surely can produce it under the guidance of Mr. Bob Baffert

5  Seven Bridges   best set of works for a Walsh 1st timer in many a moon......dangerous animal

7  Castletown   last isn't too shabby but his race 2 back is better......might see the effort two races back or a little more off of a very sharp recent work tab

8  Tiznow Or Then    Ellis 2nd timers are very dangerous.......last sure looks like the tune-up for today
