Del Mar for Friday 27 July 2012

[private]

Please take note that Sunday's 29 July selections will be posted with comments as much as 1 hour late (10 a.m. pacific). I will try to post names and numbers only at 9 a.m. Sorry for any inconvenience.

race 1    average clarity

4  Confederate Recon   low % trainer overall but not with 1st time blinkers.......best race ever which would be awfully tough here was with short rest.......short rest today

3  Manewal    red hot conditioner with 2 year old horses in Peter Miller.......youngster with speed.........dropping into maiden claiming.....right now it is hard to ask for more

1  Bubba Fizz   prolonged work tab for this Micthell baby especially for a debuting maiden claimer........mom has tossed 4 winners from 5 starters all of which won at tw0

7  Disarm   solid Texas state-bred MSW debut for this shipper on the last day of June...........trainer Jack Bruner is extremely good with 2nd time starters......of course that's not on the tough S Cal circuit........still 50 % with his last 42 2nd timers is awfully impressive

race 2    average clarity

1  Huntington Harbour    improved nicely in latest and now drops a level......owns solid speed in this spot.......should be able to sit in one of the 1st 3 positions early

5  Dynamic Diva   new trainer in Eurton........and drops alarmingly.......my guess is Eurton wouldn't agree to take over the horse if she was in totally bad shape.....also a good sign Bejarano sticks around

3  Cee's The Year   gimme-go manipulation has produced two forward moves in the past for this Ellis runner......gimme-go scenario once again today

7  Katie's Ten   probably needed last somewhat and still ran a decent race.....claimed by O'Neill seemingly at the right time as he gets to run the horse 2nd out after the layoff

race 3    average clarity

1  Night Wind   coming off 2 straight wins on the AW and training extremely well off of the 7 week break in the action.....1st on the grass but mom loved the sod......jury is still out on the sire who has yet to produce a turf winner but from a limited sample

6  Classic Bobby   solid early foot.........Miller trained........Maldonado up.........cut back of 1 furlong on the grass.......terrific combination of factors for a speed horse to succeed

8  D J Dave   on the improve with every start and Mitchell trained.....hard to ask for more except for drawing a post that is very difficult to deal with at 5F on the sod.....hot jock up helps

5  Tribal Jewel   won lone lifetime race which was run back in October on the AW despite a wide trip......training as if he is ready fresh once again.......OK grass pedigree

race 4    slightly below average clarity

9  Our Merv   only lifetime sprint with the blinkers on (albeit on the turf) fits well  here.......1st ever on the synthetic but trains nicely on it......blinkers back on today for the sharp Mike Mitchell

4  Mucho Macho Mark   good debut at mdn75K and now drops to mdn50K........normally that would bother me but not when the horse only cost $10K at sale as a yearling

1  Candy Waltz   decent work tab for this Sadler 1st timer especially considering this affair is a mid-priced maiden claimer.....trains like he will run from off of the pace

7  Speargun   shipper has been away for 10 months but has been training well at Evd......3 of his 4 races on conventional dirt since the blinkers were added are quite solid here.......now he just needs to run as well on the AW

race 5    average clarity

3  Domonation   runs at best 6 to 8 weeks between races and his trainer shows patience and gives it to him....very sharp a.m. work.....well meant and ready today

9  Circle Drive   Hess may have a good claim here........gelding chased/dueled on a somewhat dull inside and still managed to run a close 2nd in last

1  Evening Island   Mullins may also have a good claim here.......gelding ran wide and still ran 2nd.....goes from a 12% N Cal trainer to a 24% S Cal trainer (in 2012)

2  Via Verde   loves the 6 1/2F distance (8 4 1 0)......likely to get a close up ground saving trip.....that is 1/2 the battle.....like our 2nd and 3rd picks he was also claimed in his last

race 6    average clarity

3  Rock And Glory   toss out last where this filly eased.....suicidal pace......sure looks loose here and Sutherland does awfully well with route speed horses on the turf or the main track

6  Diamond Duchess    just keeps getting better......and better.......and better.......and......

8  Camelia Rose   been facing better.....gets a rider upgrade.....and should be able to get a nice mid-pack or chase position behind our top pick

1  Gem Of Soul   needs rebound to her solid form she displayed in her 1st two U S of A races she ran last spring.....2 sprints and a solid 7F drill might have her ready to rebound back at a route

race 7    above average clarity

1  Richard's Kid   beaten by only 1 1/2 lengths by the best handicap horse in the country in last.....that'll do

6  Fly Lexus Fly   won Peru derby by 10 lengths last Nov and it was at about 1 1/2 miles......Drysdale is quite good with 1st time  shippers to the USA

3  Worth Repeating   1 for 1 at today's marathon distance......likes the front end and might be able to get it here with a good route speed jock in Smith

race 8    slightly above average clarity

2  Mel's Game   very solid in last his 2nd lifetime start......blinkers on for today and a stout 5F drill strongly suggest we will see even more today (assuming he worked with the blinkers on)

1  Askingfortrouble   29 to 1 in MSW debut says this gelding wasn't fully cranked up for his debut and he still ran respectively.........bullet best of 66 horses 5/8ths work since......and Donald Warren is much better with 2nd time starters.....leave him out and you are asking for trouble

10  Bringon The Wain   solid wide 2nd place run in last.......very strong looking stretch drive......needs a clever trip from the outside post

5  Troy Story   last looks the tighten me up gimme to be at full throttle at his favorite track and go go go go

6  Bellagio Road   claimed for 20K in March in weak lifetime debut.......off since yet takes a big step up....... but........ sure is working as if her new conditioner is getting much much more out of this 4 year old

8  Broadway Nika   off since late Oct. but training well for a very dangerous trainer in Josh Litt who has won 4 of his last 7 with long layoffs
