Del Mar for Friday 3 August 2012

[private]

Start of a big weekend of racing at Del Mar.

race 1    average clarity

4  Guidopanzini   only race when up for a tag / only race at 6 furlongs was powerful..........6F and in a claimer today........Gomez/Miller have won 8 of their 15 as a team with 13 in the money......yikes

3  Night Tide   soft paced win in last but the final time was strong.......more pace here.......Bejarano/Baffert might be wise to take back a little here

1  Gal Has To Like It   solid races early in career and of late........Dollase picks up this fit Crc shipper and has been able to get 4 works into him........should be ready to roll in his 1st S Cal race

race 2    average clarity

6  Aanabaa Premium   1st time O'Neill sends out this gelding after taking over the training responsibilities........and he takes the ever meaningful drop out of MSW racing........rather sure he is the one to beat here unless he gets caught in a heated speed battle with our 2nd choice

5  Tiz Lovely   decent 1st at a route in last especially considering he now drops into maiden claiming from MSW.....blinkers on so he most likely wants the lead.....so might our top pick.....sure hope they don't get silly and do each other in

7  Givimaway   last race his 1st ever at a route of ground fits especially if this mid pack runner gets some pace out of the 5 and the 6........another O'Neill runner

8  Rintoo   you think this colt needed his debut?.......26 to 1 with Gomez up........gimme short to be fit and ready 1st time at route this afternoon

race 3    average clarity

7  Bromelia   very solid efforts running long on the grass last year at 2......and copious furlongs of work in preparation for today's layoff run......and owns enough speed in this race which is totally lacking of it that he can get a decent position near the front here.....and Avila horses have been firing of late

5  Remarkable Moon   decent layoff run in last.....strong close into soft fractions........surely can move forward 2nd out after the layoff.......most likely will have to close into a soft pace again

4  Perfecta   2 of her 3 sprint grass races are par like for today's level.....1st long but bred like that should not be a problem....might be able to sit close up here and that would most likely be a good thing

2  Shelley Beach   had speed in some of her turf races overseas......dangerous here if she rediscovers that early turn of foot

race 4    average clarity

2  Nate Dawg   ran big in winning 2nd lifetime race which was run in 2011......2nd out after the layoff here and back to E Flores who also rode that winning 2nd lifetime start......hmmmmmm..........should be in it from the get go

4  Runaway Bandito   mid pack runner fits solidly here........but Quinonez best stay after him in the stretch as he has a tendency to hang late

3  Mahogany Ridge   decent forward move 1st after the claim and in his 2nd lifetime start........needs another move in the right direction today and he will fit as well as anyone

1  Big Business     off nearly 1 year but returns for a new and very dangerous trainer..........I doubt this is a gimme or he most likely would have protected this runner in a non-claiming affair

race 5    slightly above average clarity

3  Rock U Up   did awfully well to only get beat by 2 1/2 in mc debut.......broke badly and rushed showing she can fly early.....smartly steps up to mc30K......same effort/energy with an OK trip and she would be tough to beat here

1  R Doubleday   fell off some in last but gets ample time to put things back together and rebound to her previous (her mc debut) which was quite strong........and we get a jock upgrade to boot

5  Cupid's Bling   both lifetime starts were greatly compromised by lousy trips.......and this filly acted up in the gate in her last as well.......Sadler's filly has trained exceptionally well (especially considering the level) since

9  Talk N Sassy   plenty of potential in our top 3 picks so this seemingly is not the best spot for a 1st time starter....... but.......this is a Bob Baffert 1st timer

race 6   slightly below average clarity

4  Red Intrigue   just keeps getting better......and better......and better........and better.......and so does his rider

6  Highly Rated    seemingly the best early speed in the field........tends to have very little punch late at 1 1/16 so I like the cut back to 1 mile to enhance his chances when push comes to shove in the late going near the wire

2  Miss Speed Dating    trip trouble and no pace up front to put in a meaningful close hides an improved effort by this Gallagher filly in her last.........Gomez will be out to make amends and gets a better post to work with

3  Luckyvic   best turf figs this summer in this group but in sprint races..........not the best of distance turf pedigrees but only has to get 1 mile........tough call

race 7    average clarity

8  Derby Gold   big 2nd lifetime start on the last day of March with the blinkers taken off......1st on the AW but training nicely on it.......won going away chasing a decent pace at 6 1/2.....that makes 7F look like a good fit for this Baffert runner

7  Unusual Heatwave   won a $300K Stakes race turf route to route AW in April........turf route to sprint AW this time around....... but he handles one turn affairs just fine

1  Rousing Sermon   plenty of talent for a Cal-bred in route races.......does have a little more to prove in a sprint.....but still very dangerous here running late

5  Stoney Fleece   seems at best on the synthetic and finally gets to run on it again.....not impossible here

race 8    average clarity

4  Heartless Honey   probably tried the turf in last (before considering a drop) just to make sure that this filly wasn't stout on it's surface.....the answer was she wasn't.....so....drop city here and her abilities make her the one to beat.....good rider/trainer combo

11  I Sense Your Luck   poor race in last with the blinkers on.....back off today and most off her career with them off fits well versus these

8  Miss Ambition   2 of her 4 lifetime AW races fit fine here.....and Gomez is up........Gomez has won 8 of his last 15 mounts for Miller

9  Vegas Rules   might be speed of the speed here especially with Maldonada up who is stellar exiting from the the steel monster

6  Arinyes Love

1  Elivette
