Del Mar for Sunday 26 August 2012

[private]

After a difficult Saturday I sure appreciated a Pacific Classic card where there isn't any race rated below average. Also there are 5 seemingly live long-shots to take a look at today.  Best "single" in the pick 6 that I can find is the top pick in race 8. Hoping we knock them dead today.

Best of luck to all!

race 1    average clarity

4 Evening Island    high % trainer is tired of losing so he drops this gelding multiple levels and for the 1st time he gets the meets top rider in the saddle

5  Hidden Recipe   another successful LS trainer not recognizing where to place his LS stock very well......has this fellow placed right.....very dangerous

8  Star Nicholas    very very reliable late runner......won his last despite checking early and running very wide.......1st after the claim for Morey is a significant plus

6  Max Copper   needed last...........very strong near bullet 5/8ths drill since.......expecting more from this 2nd time gelding

Long-shot Possibilities:   1  Derrik Do   very solid race fresh off of the bench at Dmr last year......recent works suggest he is read fresh again

race 2    average clarity   Note 12 has a shot if draws in

1  Magic School   inside closer here seems like a great spot in this affair loaded with speed

5  Deity   very consistent when placed in turf sprints.....impressive eyeball to eyeball duel two races back

2  Elusive Cookies   another inside late running type in a race that has a good shot to favor closers

8  Roar Baby Roar   love speed horses that rate and win for the 1st time in their careers.....they often move forward in their next start

Long-shot Possibilities:   3  Heart Of A Lioness   cheap horse when last seen at Pen two summers ago.....but......stout series of works hint the her new trainer has the trump card for this mare who fits 5F........1st on the grass but OK breeding for it

race 3    slightly average clarity

3  Den's Legacy   good forward move in 2nd lifetime start.....and never trained better....should move forward again for Mr Baffert

4  Joelito   useful MSW debut last flashing decent speed after breaking a bit slowly......nice drills since......another likely to move forward today

8  Persuasive Paul   1ster timer has a solid work pattern for the O'Neill barn (now Mora)....rather sure this colt is meant and ready

7  Denzel   very bad trip in MSW debut for this Baffert runner......deserves another shot.....does own some early speed and that is somewhat hidden

race 4    average clarity

1  Arcodoro    stumbled start and caught too wide too close to the pace and still only lost by 1 length in last.....must feel good because Carava steps him up a level

5  Tiz Liberty   late runner seemingly gets ample pace in the affair to help flatter his late kick.....trainer is stout 2nd out after the claim like today

2  Achak   keeps dropping and running decently but not winning.....but the pace scenario is more in his favor than it has been in his last 2 races

9  Hasty Trend    back to what he has been impressive with and that is route racing on the AW....and 2 sharp works should have him on edge

Longshot Possibilities:   7  Bud I Crushed It   blocked in last or would have been right their at the wire versus better....good long-shot jock up

race 5    slightly above average clarity

5  Camp Victory    very solid sprinter on the AW who might like 7 furlongs the most.....also should sit close up in a race that seems set to hold pretty well for the front runners

3  Capital Account   runs his best when able to be in contention early and that looks like the case today

6  Coil   quality late runner was able to beat less in last despite a slow pace up front.....will most likely face the same challenge here

race 6    average clarity    note 13 has a shot if draws in

6  Another Flashback   works are tightly spaced....works are solid....and 3 of them are at 6F.......wound up and ready to go 1st timer

3  Wink And A Wish   Blincoe runner broke slowly and then showed life from there.....and Blincoe has won with 3 of his last 2nd time starters....more highly likely from this filly this afternoon

9  Inflamed    mom has tossed 3 very nice runners 2 of which popped as I recall popped for a win in their MSW debuts....trainer has had a good meeting

7  Sacred Delight   works are good for this 1st timer and mom has tossed 3 winners from 3 starters and they all preciously won at 2

race 7    slightly above average clarity

6  Obviously    obviously looks like lone speed here and if he repeats his last he won't get caught again......same distance......same turf course.....same trainer/jockey

3  Mr. Commons   seems to fire every time and 9 of his 10 lifetime grass races have come at 1 mile......struggling Brice Blanc gets a big bone here

4  Jeranimo   heck of a stout individual for yours truly to place 3rd......who runs especially well when Garrett Gomez is on his back

race 8    average clarity

10  Caminetto   powerful debut would have won 90% of most MSW affairs....bad trip in 2nd out.....powerful 5/8ths drill last week......should be very tough even with just a so so trip-a-roo-bee-doo

2  Seven Bridges   broke about 4 slow and then showed plenty of life/ability in a compromised MSW debut....two solid reassuring works since.......Gomez sticks around

5  Confederate Cat    1st timer is working as if he owns some early speed and look who is up.......P Val who wired the field yesterday at a handsome price.....dangerous Walsh 1ster

6  King Maya   MSW debut which was run last December is quite good.......only beaten by 5+ lengths in a MSW race that was clocked in 108 flat.....works suggest he has returned ready for his 2nd lifetime start just like he was in his debut

Long-shot Possibilities:   11  Shiver Ye Timbers   impressive very wide rush and duel in last a 2 turn turf race......that effort must have muscled him up because the work tab since has been eye popping and the works are on the Dmr AW

race 9   slightly above  average clarity  (BC quality in this affair)

8  Suggestive Boy   stout ARG grass runner has done nothing wrong in 2 USA starts.......ultra impressive 137:3 mile work says the AW at Dmr is to his liking.....good chance to chase our 2nd pick

9  Game On Dude   best handicap horse in America so why choice # 2.........no real excuse last year in this prestigious race his only race ever on the Dmr surface....still he sure looks loose and will be tough if Sutherland slows it down up front

3  Richard's Kid    ultra sharp right now and will have a shot if there ends up being more pace in this affair than anticipated

2  Amani   ultra talented filly was full of run late in her U S of A debut but 1 1/16 was a touch short.....she won by 25 lengths in a Grade 1 in Chile the only time she ran at 1 1/4....very dangerous potential

race 10    average clarity

8  Dept   on the improve this summer and likely to be very fit coming off a strong grass route........potential for lifetime best today

10  Classic Bobby    best early foot here and a solid speed jock aboard.....that'll do

5  Warren's Knockout   another runner on the improve this summer especially since Kruljac claimed......6 1/2 furlongs seems like a good fit

9  Night Wind   failed turf experiment in last.....back on the Dmr AW and working like he is glad that he is.....might get a nice 2 wide chase position

Possible Long-shot:   7  Tribal Jewel    another who gave the grass a 1st time whirl in last and did little......4 very strong works since......very ready for his first ever on the Dmr main track

race 11    average clarity

6  Madera Dancer   solid run in last both in final time and pace........sure like her grass pedigree and her pedigree to get the 1 1/8......should be prominent from the get go if breaks decently....trainer isn't doing as poorly as his record indicates

10  Miss Communication   seems to fire every time but little punch late long or short.....blinkers on seems like a smart move to keep her mind on her business in the late stages

4  Level Headed   very useful and decent MSW sprint tune-up.......1st on the lawn and 1st at a route of ground.....right up Proctor's alley

3  Splendiferous Moon   decent sprint grass tune-up in MSW debut last.........Sadler is 12 of his last 35 in 2nd time grass races

5  Remarkable Moon   clunker in last.....race 2 back fits provided she gets more pace up front than she got in that effort on the 4th of July

9  Kelsa   well bred Mullins 1st timer (turf & distance) finished his work regiment with 4 straight 5F drills........dangerous 1st timer
