Del Mar for Friday 31 August 2012: Pick 6 carry-over $432K Super high five carry-over $86K

Not an easy card this afternoon.  But I did put in an extra hour of studying with the significant carry-overs up for grabs.

Saturday's card was easier to decipher and so far Sunday's looks quite decent. Both Saturday and Sunday have 11 races.

Good luck to all as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Street Car   impressive wire to wire sprint win popping a 2nd quarter as fast as the 1st quarter......previous win 7 races back was also wire to wire....seems like a smart move to run a distance to ensure a lose lead again.......has won running long....1 for 1 on the Dmr synthetic

4  Big Son Of A Gun   strong grass race 1st after the claim by Cerin who has had a great Del Mar meeting.....back to the main track is fine.......especially considering this son of a gun is 4 for 7 at the distance

10  Joe Carl   Hendricks runner should match up well with Gomez who often moves up deep closers such as this fellow......gelding has really charged hard late on the Dmr surface in his route races over the years

3  Lamm   consistent runner is 2 for 2 on the AW including his last which was at Dmr......claimed by Dan Hendricks who does quite well 1st out after a claim

race 2    average clarity

11  Rich In Tradition   fell off fig/effort wise in last.......rebound to previous would be tough for others to overcome

6  Annalili   big somewhat hidden forward move in last with 1st time blinkers and 1st time Lasix.....laid up since December but sure is training as if this filly is meant and ready.....trainer is quite good with layoff runners

1  Salty Forecast   last wasn't bad but what we want is her debut run 2 races back.......just claimed by Miller and he puts the blinkers on to help her focus and get that strong debut race out of her once again

10  Spring Blossom   so so MSW races.......somewhat overdo drop into mc should help

race 3    slightly below average clarity

8  Madeoftherightstuf   best ever in latest both pace and final time wise......steps way up but should fit just fine.......handles the grass OK at 6 and 6 1/2 furlongs....and 5F looks like a much better fit.......should be in the hunt from the get go

7  Mr. Ornery   done nothing wrong in 2 lifetime races both grass sprints....and now we get an extremely positive jock switch from a seldom used jock to the meets top gun

1  Crimson Giant   significant move forward in latest somewhat disguised by a bad trip....low % jock aboard but he he ridden this gelding well especially when he has drawn inside like today

2  Matthew L   1 for 1 on the sod albeit versus much softer.....but has significant early speed and gets a great gate jock in P Val......danger city

race 4    slightly below average clarity

5  Sharp Bella    clunker in last........need debut race 2 back.......and believe we will get it with a solid rider upgrade

4  Swiss Bliss   was on the improve till last when this runner tossed a clunker......did she go bad some or just some murky waters to drop and not be claimed today.......hmmmm

9  Turf Club Queen   last sure looks like a MSW gimme to drop and go in mc in 2nd lifetime start.......trainer popped for a win the last time he sent a runner from MSW to maiden claiming

6  Tribal Rain    simply as this.....we don't her last.....we need her effort 2 back with a better trip.....blinkers on might get us there

race 5    average clarity

9  Bella Viaggia    done little wrong in two lifetime endeavors and continues to train like a happy and healthy horse......Puype is starting to heat things up a bit

6  Sweet Baguette   on the improve 3 straight running long on the sod.....back to the AW sprinting where his only AW race was at Dmr and it is solid......should finish up this 6 1/2 furlong affair well being turf route fit and all

8  Toomanytomatoes   broke 5 slow and got blocked a couple in the stretch and only got beat for the win by 4 3/4 or might have made it 3 for 3 lifetime.....two solid works since.....should be in the hunt for the win here with of course a good trip-a-roo

2  Oscillator   easiest of wins debuting at the bottom maiden claiming level......smartly and rightfully steps up significantly here........only needs to made a logical 2 or 3 length forward move today to be a fit in here

race 6    average clarity

2  Fed Biz   Baffert charge sure is something special when it comes to being able to cut up some tremendous fractions and still manages to go on with it.....worked 1:10 flat.....don't remember any drill faster for the Dmr meeting....all systems go fresh off of the bench

5  Unusual Heatwave   very sharp right now and 1 mile is a very good fit.......connections appear to have realized that this runner is at very best on the main track (at least the AW---never has been on the conventional dirt) and his turf days might somewhat be over

6  Jimmy Creed   done little wrong in winning 2 of 3 lifetime sprints and running 2nd in the other....1st long but bred to handle a route of ground

race 7    slightly  below average clarity

1  Hometown Hero   wide trip somewhat compromised a decent MSW debut which was at a route of ground on the synthetic.......turf this time around also going long.......bred to like grass........should be very fit for his 2nd lifetime race for a trainer much better with 2nd time starters

3  Slew's Flash   bred to be a good grass runner so his 6F debut sprinting on the AW sure appears as if it was a workout (25 to 1) to be fit enough to handle a turf route in his 2nd lifetime start

13 Also Eligible   Fit To Rule    both lifetime races on the AW with the blinkers off are good....1st on the grass and 1st long but bred well enough to handle both...trouble if drws in

2  Money Talker   shows that he can handle the grass but probably needs either weak efforts from our top 3 choices or a good move forward to win this affair

4  Big Bane Theory    1st timer appears to be working well enough to possibly be ready in his lifetime debut

6  Warrior's Song

5  Great Rising Star
